So how do glamours work? Are they like a single use item and I have to do it every time with new armor? I basically want to look like Lightning for the rest of the game.

You make a glamour plate (which is basically a full outfit of all the gear you want). Then every time you get a new piece of equipment, you go to town, hit apply glamour plate, and you look like Lightning again.

Trying to remember exactly how this works. I think you need a glamour prism for each piece of equipment you want in your outfit. Then you go to your inn room, where there's a glamour dresser, and there's dialog boxes to turn your stuff into glamours and make plates. Once you make the glamour plate you don't need any more prisms ever, you can re-apply the plate as often as you want.

I actually just found this out because I was using it as storage and used up my prism stack in my inventory.

Should I consider buying a level booster so I can play with Board 8? I'm only at level 18 with a lancer and level 18 with a gladiator.

No, don't buy a level boost. You won't be able to play your class correctly and people will get frustrated with you (and you probably won't understand a lot of the story).

Problem is that I really, really want to look like a dragoon.

Also because dungeons sync everyone's level in this game, you don't need to be level 80 to play with other maxed players (or they could be leveling an alt class or something). At 18 you only have a couple of dungeons available so it's not gonna be worth it for a lot of people, but you can pretty quickly get to a point where it might be.

You can unlock dragoon at level 30

Not sure when you can get a dragoonish looking gear set (maybe 45 when you get a set of gear from your job quests)?

Judt FYI, you still have to do the main story before you can do almost all endgame content, even if you're level 80. So you'd have to buy two boosts if that's your goal

Well actually this was my thought-process:

Buy a level boost for dragoon.
Keep working my way through the main game as a Paladin.

That way I still get the core experience of the game as an appropriate level but then can every now and then faff about as my favorite looking class since changing classes is literally just changing weapons.

Actually chimera was fine because I already knew its mechanics (besides being slow to cleanse paralysis because Im not used to paying attention to debuffs yet). The sandworm and its debuffs were awful, though (it does so much damage if you dont esuna immediately!), as was some of the trash (not sure how much of that was my fault vs the tank; sandworm issues were definitely my fault).

btw, something that i don't think is ever actively explained, any debuff with a little blue line above it on the icon can be esuna'd. This can include some things you wouldn't immediately expect, like the damage over time sludge thing from the second boss in cutters cry - which turns the second boss from making you want to cry as its tough to keep up with that damage to being bored with nothing to do.

I'm generally not in favor of people buying level boosts for jobs they haven't already played at level cap before (on an alternate character, generally) because the process of levelling teaches you how the class works. If you skip directly to 70 you're going to miss out on a lot of on-the-job training about how exactly Dragoon works, what abilities to use when, and numerous other small details you would only get by starting fresh.

If you absolutely must buy a boost (or you already did I guess, based on how late this response is) then please please please open your ability list (P by default), put all your abilities on your hotbars, and READ YOUR TOOLTIPS. Every single one, for all your abilities, including your role abilities and class traits. Everything is important. FF14 is really good about not giving you useless abilities, everything has a purpose. Read your tooltips and think about how the abilities interact. Most jobs have a very logical flow that makes sense once you've taken a few minutes to think about it, but if you never think about it you're not going to be playing the job at anywhere near its designed level of effectiveness.

Please, I'm begging you. There are already more than enough level-capped players who have no idea how to play their jobs. If you're going to boost a job, learn how to play that job.

Yeah and it really isn't too much of a time sink to level an alt if you already have one class higher leveled. There's a 2x bonus to EXP when you level another class as long as you have another at higher level. And you unlock more resources to stack bonus on top like squadron manuals, efficient sources like PotD, and other stuff.

If you're bummed that you look hideous while leveling just know that fashion is the true endgame of FF14 by design. Don't fall for the trap of boosting!

Finally tried E5S. Made it to enrage. The one trouble was kiting the add during Thunderstorm. Seems pretty straightforward as a dps though.

farming light in pyros is 100% optional. all it does it add substats to your weapon, which is basically useless these days unless you want to create BiS weapons for low level synced content

Ah that first kill is always so sweet. E6S beated. Mi co-tank was stunned for final tankbuster so I got debuffed and then knocked into the air. But then they baited Meteor Strike away from me. I didn't know that was possible but I somehow survived.

If your DPS is at all decent you shouldn't even see HW2, speedrun groups at the end of Stormblood were already almost skipping it and damage is much higher now.

Good to know! On O8S we were finishing shortly after Forsaken 2 so I think our DPS should be fine for that.
