I see a lot of posts and stories about people like.. not being able to handle having to stay home.

Are people really so incapable of having fun in their own homes that they have to act like its the end of the world? Ive got so many books, and games, and movies, and even freaking Lego sets to keep me entertained for quite a while.

Not only that but its not like youre absolutely confined to your house, you can still go outside and take walks and stuff.

It's not about entertainment, it's about the fact that we can't see our friends and hang out with them. We can't meet up to play games, talk about life, goof around, anything.

Believe it or not, humans are social creatures.

I live alone, so I guess its more bearable than being with annoying family for me lol.

Meh, not really. Modern kids just didn't have the wealth of offline, non electrical, solo activities older kids did. For all the advancements we've made, things haven't taught kids what else is out there. I guess video chat could answer for not being able to see people.

Legos, puzzles, magazines, can still play beanbags or bocce in the yard, hike in the woods, whatever.

Yep. Even some folk who have kids update facebook on how bored they are rather than spending time with said kids. My guess is they locked the kids away somewhere.

We're all not understanding how the other side lives.
Most people I've come across that are still going out can not get over themselves. The only reason I am anywhere in doors that's not my home is for work.
Some people act like Starbucks is a need and it's sadly more than most would probably expect. I deal with it everyday.

I don't get it either , but lots of people apparently can't handle the pressure of being home and talk to their family because they never spend so much time closed up together. They probably bug each other too much .
I mean I get that if someone is working a lot and others go to school and then suddenly everyone is at one place and they all have different needs and different personalities and different way of doing things.... it can't go so smooth . Sometimes people find it hard to communicate .

The fact you compared this to solitary confinement should say a lot to you.
Seriously, some of us aren't really even noticing much difference.
So, yeah, you're probably not an introvert, but it is just a label.

I, personally, am fine with all of this. My schoolwork is confusing and wild because my professors are completely blown out by doing this digitally, but emotionally I'm fine.

It's not that by itself, don't they sit in the same small room for like 23 hours? No exercise, maybe a shower? Some people don't know how to function outside of a prison. I mean you have those uncommon people who build themselves a cottage in the woods and just detach. It can be done but the lack of contact means you'd never hear about it.

Solitary confinement in prison is generally without anything to occupy yourself at all. Basically if you wanna see what it's like empty out your closet (if you have one), and go sit in there every day for 23 hours, unless you have to use the restroom, and you get to walk around the house (but no tv etc) for one hour a day.

We are all waaaaay better off than that, we have better food probably as well, and tons of things to entertain ourselves etc.

That being said, even with so much, it can get hard for many people as the weeks go by. A few weeks is pretty doable for just about anyone (although there are some types who may struggle), by week 3 and 4, many people will start to really feel it though, get very tired of TV/books/games etc, especially if they are all alone.

Some of us are on week 6 at this point and heading towards 7. I am VERY capable of entertaining myself, to an extreme degree, but even I am feeling it and have to fight the urge to just go jump in my car and drive around (which should be safe really).

For me, it's due to being sick before all this started, which extended the isolation (mostly) for 2 weeks, but it won't be that long till many others get here, and they won't have the lifetime experience of going extremely long periods without interacting with others etc.

I've always said I would be the perfect person to send on a mission to mars. I once played a online text based mmo (called a mud) named 3 kingdoms, for 14 1/2 hours a day (on average) for a year straight. If I was playing such a game right now, I probably wouldn't even notice anything was going on with the world, except maybe when I went shopping lol.

Sadly I have not found any MMO nearly as addictive since then. I did really enjoy Dungeons and Dragons Online (all content is free right now in fact), but I have played it to death.

I just wish they would freaking release Phantasy STar online 2 on PC already....I'm deeply regretttng not buying a used xbox one so I could be playing it right now....but at this point it's not safe to do that, and I'm not ssending $300 for one.

Isolation has been used as a form of torture for centuries, and that is effectively what people have been experiencing for the last month or so. After a few days you get the constant headache that never goes away. Eventually you loose track of days, you stop showering, grooming, etc. Eventually it just eats away at your psyche.

Granted, I love it and part of me hopes CNN is right when they say we could all be in quarantine for the next 2 years, but I understand that not everyone can handle it.

Believe it or not, humans are social creatures.

Yet too many people spend way too much time on electronics, celebrity worship, social media, etc. these days compared to actually spending time hanging out with others. And yes I mentioned social media, but it's not the same as actual human interaction.

Not everyone is guilty of being glued to their phones 24/7, but there are plenty of people who are. I mean heck, just look at how much time all of us are posting on a message board for video games instead of interacting with other human beings.

Just saying... :/

Why you say the US prison system? We dont remove them from all human contact even when they are held in set they must have the ability to contact a officer in case they have need of help or something. Yeah not much but something. Seg or as they call it now restrictive housing at my unit isnt THAT bad though as despite not having face to face contact with other inmates if raise their voice about the can talk to the guys in cells around them. Hell even seen them sit on the floor and play cards between two cells. Or chess via the verbalizing movements while both had their own board and pieces.

I understand the need to see your friends, but the alternative of possibly being the reason someone else dies or gets incredibly sick, worse if its a friend or family member, outweighs that.

the part I dont get is the arguments from people on missing my friends who then meet up at a place like Home Depot. Like, you know thats not the reason that it was allowed to stay open, and your arrogance is just going to ruin it for others.

If you cant get by doing things like web calls wtih your friend, just freaking have them come over for dinner, if your going to ignore the guidelines anyways, no reason to drag others into it (though you still end up doing that since if one you had it, and pass it to the other - Id imagine at some point they are going to need food and can pass it to grocery store employees)

it probably depends on the state and location, I think NYC might be stricter right now, but yeah, here in CT its 3.

Which is why I further dont get the people who cant just do a little dinner party and instead try to have these elaborate parties. Its the same reason they have had to close down parks and golf courses because people cant just stay home

At this point, I dont think its a humans are social beings excuse and more of I dont care about anyone else but my own enjoyment reason
