Mycro thinks Hope is 41 spots too high.

mycro's hatred for dai is something i disagree with him on! back in the day i actually preferred dai to zts, just because dai's music wasn't so super trance influenced; trance is, like, one of my least favorite music genres. nowadays i do like zts better but i still think dai is ok!

...hope isn't very good, though!

I thought I'd re-post the updated spreadsheet, as it contains some revised scores I thought you'd like to be aware of. Yeah, most of the recent music is stuff that should have been scored a little lower.... stuff has been kind of a mess, but I'm starting to get much more organized now!

138) Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru 6 - Life
https://youtu.be/GbqYuTZFDKk
Series rank: 10 of 15
Composer: dai
Score: 7.2/10 (Great)
Revised Score; 6.8/10 (Good)
VGMC History: VGMC IV (Lost R2), VGMC V (Lost R5)
Favorite Part: 0:32 - 0:40 (start listening 5-10 seconds before to see what I mean)

"Oops". I wasn't as organized as I should have been in creating my rankings at first, so this kind of slipped through the cracks. Solo piano is certainly different from the loud electronic stuff of other tracks. The piano playing is quirky in a way that it still seems to fit the series, though. Ah, it's from dai, the one who wrote Hope. Make sense. New age, a bit like the Piano Guys but more "serious", and very rhythmic. There is the cool voice leading in those piano chords, especially the parts where its contrary motion! (the first few chords, for instance) Also, the chords kind of go back and forth between open and thick chords, too. Cool. The harmonies in general are intriguing for like the first seven seconds, then the rest of the theme is kind of boring and forgettable as it repeats similar ideas. It does get imaginative at a few points, such as from 0:32 - 0:40...the pulsing here is cool, where everything gets displaced by an eighth note! Overall, its kind of a dud among the Umineko successes to me. Still enjoyable, though.

137) NieR: Automata - Amusement Park
Series rank: 5 of 5 (Drakengard)
https://youtu.be/yOo8oJlWwnU
Composer: Keigo Hoashi
Score: 7.2/10 (Great)
Revised Score: 6.9/10 (Good)
VGMC History: VGMC 12 (Lost R5)
Favorite Part: The initial buildup starting at 1:55

Apparently Drakengard is part of the NieR series! (Just kidding...April Fools joke. The opposite is true) Some of you are probably wondering, "Why hasn't Amusement Park showed up yet?" I have only one word to say: "Oops." Gotta love the NieR vocalists. (I wonder who it is?) Adding the second voice adds some richness. Yes. The main melody is...um, nice. Im liking the sparse instrumentation kind of haunting/sarcastic atmospheric stuff here, and even the airy stuff seems to have notes to them. And it gradually thickens until 2:30. There are certain piano chords I really like, for example, the diminished chords really add some flavor and intensity (2:57, 3:13 and 3:31 for example). At 3:41 I enjoy the Entry of the Gladiators reference (plus fragments of it play in other places), and the countermelody there is the one part where I have something better than neutral feelings towards the strings. The section after 1:55 (esp. 2:14) sounds like something out of a circuskinda creepy in a way. (abandoned/haunted sounds) Not too much else worth mentioning. Actually, I'd better add that 2:17 is really great! Tons of excellent harmonies there, and the singer moving (at 2:31) from E to Eb moving into the next section is really nice! (i-I-#VI-bIIM7) That alone is ALMOST enough to push it up to the "great" tier, come to think of it, but not quite!

Why has Amusement Park showed up already!!!

Didn't know this was by someone other than Keiichi Okabe, cool! The singer in this one is Emi Evans, and I think she's just harmonizing with herself. She got a starring role in the original Nier, had some guest appearances in Drakengard 3, and shared the spotlight with a few other singers in Nier Automata but very much retained a central role. And she's the one who writes the lyrics to the chaos language, too!

I don't know if it changes anything, but the version of the song that retired was Dynamic Vocals (we're still pestering azuarc to change the link in ToC 3): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO31l9rByJ4

I find it funny the version marked "dynamic vocals" is the one that is less vocal-centric, depending on a lot more instruments and an extremely prominent drum track.

Man, for how many of these tracks do I have the wrong version?! In this case, it'll make no difference in the rating. Essentially we're trading a nice buildup in exchange for being consistently more exciting, and they cancel each other out.

First off, I removed the revised score for Amusement Park. I really do prefer the Dynamic Vocals version. It's likely to be revised upwards, if anything.

136) Atelier Ayesha - Slag Dance
Series rank: 5 of 5
https://youtu.be/naIMAMwx9Xk
Composer: Kazuki Yanagawa
Score: 7.2/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 7 (Lost R2), VGMC 9 (Lost R4), VGMC 10 (Lost to Megalovania R5)
Favorite Part: The first main section

The first Atelier music makes its appearance on the list! It may be one of the lower ranked Atelier tracks, but Its still very good to me. The instrumentation for music in the series rarely disappoints, and its the highlight of this particular track. I enjoy all the plucked instruments (unable to identify them by name). The stylistic details (slow vibrato, quick tremolo before the first note) really make it sound authentic. As far as the gypsie singing pretty neat! The sliding around and such seems to be a combination of singing technique and electronic modifying. Also, hey, the electric bass somehow manages to not intrude! The metal elements blend in really well. The main melody is pretty standard, but those slow triplets at the end awesome (0:32). 0:50 brings a really cool voice out of hiding! As far as later stuff goes, I enjoy the chromatic motion at 1:26 in the accompaniment. Not every section is super engaging, but overall its very satisfying. Hey, it has one of those grand pauses on the 2nd-and-after loops (see 2:06)! That seems to be Yanagawa thing, huh?

135) Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - Beware the Forests Mushrooms
Series rank: 4 of 4
https://youtu.be/lbRJ733xiF4
Composer: Yoko Shimomura
Score: 7.2/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 2 (Lost R6)
Favorite Part: All of it.

VGMC II finally gets its first blow! It tickles me that Super Mario RPG has something retired in VGMC! Before the internet age, I would have never thought Forest Maze would be so popular. Shimomura seems to always come up with a gem or two in most of her game soundtracks. Anyway, this is the perfect forest theme for Mario! It evokes an aura of mystery, but in a fun sort of way. This is a difficult one to analyze and explain whats so good about it but man, the melody is so catchy! Part of the catchiness is the two staccato eighth notes followed by the ornamented legato quarter note, right after, thats for sure. Then theres the way it emphasizes the 6th note of the Dorian scale in the FIRST bit of the melody and the way the harmonies change for the SECOND phrase works really well. Then the way it heads towards the dominant in the third/fourth phrases works like a charm. The instrumentation is charming, too that bassoon, for one thing! Yes, ESPECIALLY the boom-chuck bassoon. And is that a trumpet or an oboe on the melody? I think its supposed to be an oboe.

134) Sol Survivor - Oil & Sweat
https://youtu.be/FfrPhfyQHMw
Composer: Arnie Serigstad
Score: 7.2/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 7 (Lost R6 to the executioner)
Favorite Part: Anywhere where the piano is emphasized

Sounds like.... machinery! Really dangerous machinery. The primitive flute sounds like youre out in a deep, dark forest, though. Nevertheless, all the different sounds complement each other REALLY nicely for the gist of it the bells, the woodwind synth, the pianoall of it. But especially that piano! I do enjoy the harmonic ostinato in this one (for the main sections). Simple, but it helps carry out the mood. The way the melody and rhythms flow is rigid, but in a good way...? It starts off calm, and then starts picking up in intensity after two minutes, then once again after three minutes (the tempo picks up, too). When it gets loud at about 3:35, the grindy noises arent really my thing. But right after that is totally awesome...cool bass and panning! Kind of goes back to earlier ideas, presenting them in slightly different always until it gets really loud, the big climax! Not my favorite part, but I like the cooling off afterwards.

133) "Sonic the hedgehog 2006 ""Solaris Phase 2"""
Series rank: 3 of 3
https://youtu.be/vRe3h1iQ1Os
Composer: Tomoya Ohtani, arr. by Hideaki Kobayashi
Score: 7.3/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 4 (Lost R4), VGMC 6 (Lost R7 to Zero (Ace Combat))
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/vRe3h1iQ1Os?t=73

Isnt Sonic 2006 one of the worst Sonic games ever? Regardless, I know that it has at least one great track from it! Talk about CATCHY! Sonic is ready to take on the world! I love the way melody and accompaniment emphasize the last eighth note of each measure (with changing harmonies) in the first section. Nice build up into the repeat of the idea at :10-:13. 0:24 we have an even bigger buildup to a more climactic melody! 1:14 adds some metallic flavor. At 1:52 the beginning idea, but this time harmonies are changing underneath via sustained brass chords + countermelodies + choruses! 3:31 gets us some nice electric guitar staccatos, etc.! Towards the end we get more of the stuff like at 1:52, woo.

132) Ragnarok Online II - Din Don Dan Dan Fo

Composer: Yoko Kanno
Score: 7.3/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 4 (Lost R5 to Hope)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/Ae940xjLBIk?t=78

Kinda makes me sad that we have Ragnarok Online music retired, but not PSO. :( Gotta love Ragnarok for its folk music, though. What a lively beginning...! Cool orchestral hits and drum patterns right off the bat. Its full of energy, especially that violin melody at 0:23. Dorian/Natural minor combination doesnt hurt: it always seems to make music more folksie. The synth pads, with their slowly changing harmonies, underneath all the folksie stuff is really nice. I enjoy the middle sections starting about 1:19 nice and smooth contrast. Drums are really nice there starting about 1:34. 2:23 has nifty rolled guitar chords (cluster chords) alongside the chants. 2:56 is good because the energized violin melody comes back, but now its in the background as those, um, reed-like instruments take the spotlight. At 3:19 we finally hit the climax hey, the key change at 3:35 was done really well. 3:53 drums make me feel so good! From there the music gets to ride smooth for a while.

131) Mega Man 3 - Sparkman Stage
Series rank: 4 of 4
https://youtu.be/6J5cN87c2yM
Composer: Bunbun, Harumi Fujita
Score: 7.3/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 2 (Lost R5 to Dragon Roost Island)
Favorite Part: 0:12 - 0:25

Ahhhh my favorite Mega Man tune of all time! Well, it WAS 12 years ago when it retired, anyway. Still, its kinda cool to see it retired, and its notable that this the only regular Mega Man stage theme to get such an honor! These days with MM3, I prefer Snake Man (along with the Wily Stage themes and the Intro MM3s soundtrack is killer!), as well. Still, this has some merits. The main catch is, of course, the groovy 5-note lick that keeps repeating at 0:12. Add another three-note pattern that, when combined, creates a kind of reverb effect thats really cool its really creative use of NESs limited capabilities! Add a cool chromatic duet at the end of the phrase (adds so much INTENSITY), and its just :) Then you got the second half (at 0:25)... the main melody is fine but its the countermelody behind that makes me go aw, yeah!. Its so Mega Man 3ish, with how minor it sounds in such a groovy way. Oh, and the loud hits at the very end of the loop YEAH!

130) Ys Seven - Innocent Primeval Breaker
Series rank: 3 of 4
https://youtu.be/lS7_tcwsj4E
Composer: Yukihiro Jindo
Score: 7.4/10 (Good)
VGMC History: VGMC 6 (Lost R3), VGMC 7 (Lost R3), VGMC 8 (Lost R6 to Papilliones)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/0fb9KLewxoI?t=59

Tons of energy in this one! The melody is merely decent, though, imo. The intro begins with soft bells (which get to used in several other parts!) that are really nice The first part of the theme is merely okay, but I gotta say the contrasting section works REALLY well (which starts at 0:59). Music goes more lyrical with violins, and then you get this perfectly timed percussive idea (everything in ) at 1:07, whoamg AWESOME. Also, nice bit of Dorian there. 2:19 presents a virtuosic guitar solo its not really the kind of playing I like, but at 2:39 theres some tasteful rhythms followed by unexpected harmonic changes from 2:44 to 2:48! Epic. As far as the latter half of the loops, the second guitar solo does absolutely nothing for me, but at least part two of the theme comes back at 3:08 again! At 4:25 the drummer goes nuts and honestly its a pretty epic climax (I enjoy the top line added at 4:34)! (I like this, that, this, that, and there!!!)

Composer: David Wise(?)
Score: 7.5/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 7 (Lost R2), VGMC 8 (Lost R5 to Innocent Primeval Breaker)
Favorite Part: The intro

Oh, hey, that's kinda funny that this lost to IPB, but FF gets its revenge, beating it out by one spot! Back in 94, this was the cutting edge of video game music. The SNES did not have anything like this before DKC. I love that soft beeping basso continuo. The soft electric guitar-like hairpins make the semi-industrial atmosphere give me goosebumps. What an intro! Then comes a delightful xylophone melody with that NICE forte-piano chord at the end. And then it turns out the xylophone is just a preparatory melody for the REAL melody at 0:44! Cool. (Yeah, thats something I like about DKC music is that its more interesting than just melody + accompaniment.) Then most of the sounds drop out at and you get an almost chimp-sounding, but calm, ambient little concluding figure...very cool. I like that reverberating staccato, which then is basically echoed by the piano. The offbeats starting at 1:11 (first the drum, then the trumpets) are a cool nerdy thing I like.

Whoops! Didn't you know that's my way of revising GG's rating upwards? (just kidding)

128) Granblue Fantasy - New World Order
https://youtu.be/TpVxreT7NPU
Composer: Tsutomu Narita
Score: 7.5/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 12 (Lost R3), VGMC 13 (Lost R7 to Revenger)
Favorite Part: The intro

Yeah, I voted Amusement Park over this. I originally revised AP downward, but now I would revise it UPWARD now that I have the correct version. So about New World Order... Harpsichord start, yay! Drum choices help out with a bit of a rustic feel. Cool piano patterns, and then electric guitars plays fourths on top of the piano. Great stuff so far. And then when the violin gets put on top so lush and lyrical and soaring! Its seriously an 8.5/10 at this point.. Then the singers come in...uhhhh..all I can say is why? And every time the soloists go for a high note (which happens way too many times), it comes across as corny. 1:22 is pretty much the low point of it all very stereotypically corny melody focusing on tonic and minor 7th with corny syncopation, as if from a 90s cartoon. It has that active synth, at least. Fortunately, the rest is not so bad that I can't enjoy whats good about this track. 1:44 has really nice vocals in the background. Anyway, it climaxes at about two minutes in, but then what happens after that is fantastic. 2:07s violin gives a nice feel of winding down a bit, I guess. Then, 2:29. aw, yeah! The punctuated chords idea is pretty awesome there. At 3:23 the separate vocal line doing long notes is actually a nice subtle addition. Love how it ends pretty much the way it starts.

127) Wild ARMS 5 - Persephone IPCC_3927 (Battle)
Series rank: 3 of 3
https://youtu.be/_HvPs6xlPeg
Composer: Noriyasu Agematsu
Score: 7.6/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 2 (Lost R5 to Rhythm of Red)
Favorite Part: The first 13 seconds

Whooooa those violin arpeggios at the start! WHY DO THEY SOUND SO GOOD?! (part of it is the hemiola) The various synths sound great, too like, really good. I like their reverb. So energetic makes me want to jump around! Lots of cool decresendo efffects. Violin comes back at 0:48, yay! It plays a similar idea again, playing rhythmic stuff, but then switches to a lyrical style nice! Cool trills near the end. Note-wise and harmony-wise, it doesnt seem like it should sound this good, but it just does!

126) Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra - Godsibb

VGMC History: VGMC 2 (Lost R2), VGMC 3 (Lost R1), VGMC 4 (Lost R4), VGMC 5 (Lost R2), VGMC 6 (Lost R6 to Solaris Phase 2)
Favorite Part: The intro

I suppose its the little things that give this one listening pleasure. The subdued piano works REALLY well. The way it interacts with the soft synth rhythmically is awesome! It helps with the heavy atmosphere. The soft chimes (near the start) add a nice touch to the atmosphere, too. The pure voices fit right in perfectly. Yeah, the instrumentation is the highlight of the track. 0:44s guitar entrance...WHOA, that's banger! Once again we get more of that hemiola from the start. That makes a difference because the melodies are a bit weak on their own. The vocals at the end are nice how a v chord is on top of the tonic, which brings a nice pure sound without it sounding dissonant, because dissonance in this type of music would kind of ruin things. Overall its really good!

125) Persona 3 - The Battle for Everyone's Souls
Series rank: 2 of 4
https://youtu.be/bK8vpWIvA9o
Composer: Shoji Meguro
Score: 7.6/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 2 (Lost R3), VGMC 3 (Lost R4), VGMC 4 (Lost R2), VGMC 5 (Lost R5 to Halo Theme Mjolnir Mix)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/bK8vpWIvA9o?t=23

Very full electric bass/guitar chords at the start! Simple, but satisfying rhythmic structure (referring to the melody, not the percussion). WAY cool how it takes that last chord and reverbs very distinctly as if it got frozen in time. VERY tasteful intro, indeed. Oddly enough, it effectively leads into the much more somber feeling once the piano takes the lead...its kind of neat how it does that. The piano chords are nice for a little while, especially when it quiets down, with nice guitar effects in there (1:18). I love when it gets loud again with those distinctive chords at 1:37, too! The soprano stuff is okay, contributing to that somber feel. Overall, its not that great compositionally, but it does a lot of things very well in terms of style.

124) Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War - Zero
Series rank: 3 of 3
https://youtu.be/ML4Jx76vSTk
Composer: Keiki Kobayashi
Score: 7.7/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 1 (Lost R4), VGMC 2 (Lost R3), VGMC 6 (CHAMPION)
Favorite Part: The first 30 seconds

Here comes another champion! This may be ranked third from its series, but theres plenty to like. The start is WONDERFUL. I love those low moving harmonies with the strings, and the way it leads into a small piece of the theme at the end of the phrase. (From 0:00-0:07, then it repeats a similar idea) Also the soft electronic percussion adds a nice touch of intensity as if to tell us this music is headed toward Epic Central. Then comes the guitar that everyone loves, playing some sweet UNEXPECTED chords and adding percussive spice to the mix. The standard AC brass takes over what the strings were doing, yay! (I love the use of brass in Ace Combat) Finally, the full theme comes at about the thirty second mark. Rhythmic and succinct! Next comes a surprisingly lovely soprano solo. The way it soars is a nice contrast to the previous stuff. The spanish guitar works really nicely in the accompanying role here. Once the guitar takes the main stage, though, Im not as big of a fan. It uses the most stereotypical chords and patterns imaginable for the style, and it goes on for WAY too long. Afterwards we get some WOOoperatic choirs they sound okay, I guess. Essentially, the first half is great. The second half, not so much.

123) Mega Man 3 - Title
Series rank: 3 of 4
https://youtu.be/oEf8gPFFZ58
Composer: Yasuki Fujita
Score: 7.7/10 (Good)
VGMC History: VGMC 2 (Lost R7 to MGS2 theme)
Favorite Part: The first section

Best Mega Man title theme ever? Maybe I guess Im not as flabbergasted by this as I used to be. Still, this is one CHILL opening. Its like Mega Man is having his own little soliloquy. Nifty little bluesy line to get repeated an octave up. You got that STYLISH chromatic trick at about 0:16. Then you got this upward/downward motion 3+3+2 rhythm, and then switches to straight triplets the second time around FUN! (at least, to me), Then the music hits a sudden fanfare, followed by an agile, slithering melody culminating in this CRAZY fast hemiola pattern at 0:28-0:30. MORE fun! From there, we get a short little theme split between the top and bottom, an effect that's like reverberating this is what we call creative use of chiptunes! 0:42 finally adds a cool countermelody to finish it off. It doesnt come off as amazing best NES music ever like it used to, but I still like it a lot!

122) Guilty Gear Isuka - Riches in Me
https://youtu.be/wB12h2VnVIs
Composer: Daisuke Ishiwatari
Score: 7.7/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 1 (Lost R3), VGMC 2 (Lost R3), VGMC 3 (Lost R6 to You're Not Alone!)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/wB12h2VnVIs?t=179
The beginning reminds me of Street Fighter or Double Dragon or something, but that makes sense considering the kind of game this is. It starts off nice and mild. Then you suddenly got this INSANELY grindy low guitars all of a sudden it couldnt possibly get more different! Pretty cool! Interesting staccato/legato use in the bass. The theme works SO WELL in this style can you imagine this playing soft and slow? I certainly cant. The melodic structure is good its certainly not normal. Especially the refrain. (0:48) I love the way it climaxes at 1:06, then how it moves back down Im liking the strong bass sound instead of chords you got these fat octaves! At key points they run parallel with the melody which is certainly interesting. (at 0:55, for instance) Im not terribly impressed with the solo later on...meh. At 3:00 you got a really nice elongated reverb (yummy bass) down to the mild stuff from the beginning very nice!

121) Umineko no Naku Koro ni - system0
Series rank: 9 of 15
https://youtu.be/93VODUlLuRk
Composer: -45
Score: 7.7/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 9 (Lost R6 to Evolution Era)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/93VODUlLuRk?t=30

Believing oneself to be perfect is often the sign of a delusional mind... (sorry, I just HAD to say it out loud) It starts off with a choir-like synth with a marcato feelvery foreboding. Then you got this moment of silence (echo), and then some more weird vioces and the organ comes in and you KNOW its serious! Love the chords and I love the way its in minor except at the ends of the phrases where it puts a TON of emphasis on the major. (E-F#-F#-G# outlined in the phrase) At 1:23 you got cool percussion, including an active xylophone that keeps the suspense going. Then at 1:44 - everything drops out and you got an a capella quasi-chant singing, singing a classical-ish style, continuing the same idea as the organ before cool! Then you got a harpsichord doing a fast Bach Toccata & Fugue idea going and going and going (its cool the way it gradually moves around), perfectly placed. Overall, its nice, but not among my favorite Umineko tracks. I used to like it a lot more, though.

With system0 down, we are now 1/3 of the way through the project! The only "series" completely eliminated so far is Undertale. Any game or series with two or more contestants are counted as a "series". Let's look at which ones remain undefeated!

Ar Tonelico/nosurge
bemani
Bravely Default
Chrono
Final Fantasy
Kirby
Metal Gear Solid
Okami
Super Smash Bros.
Terraria Calamity
VVVVVV

Eleven series. Wow.

120) Ace Combat: Assault Horizon - White Devil
Series rank: 2 of 3

Composer: Rio Hamamoto
Score: 7.7/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 7 (Lost R4), VGMC 8 (Lost R6 to Small Two of Pieces)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/SLqhF2wswYk?t=194

What a suspenseful, creepy feeling the strings evoke at the start. Awesome dissonances from the brass/low strings only add to that feeling, along with the CHILLY crescendo at 0:26. Grindy guitars join the fray kind of groovy. Very hard rock-esque. Cool echo delay at 0:35 and some other places! At 0:38 strings join the guitars with some wild lines. It gets calm for a while, but then at 1:29 the guitar decides to WAKE YOU UP. 1:58 makes a great little contrasting section...such wonderful, pure voices. Then suddenly all hell breaks loose at 2:11!!!! What ugly brass intervals but I think its SUPPOSED to be ugly! Ghost voices weaving in and out at the 2:54 section. Chill-inducing! Up to this point its been thriller music, but it then suddenly turns BEAUTIFUL at 3:15. I just LOVE that surprise switch-up at the end. Mmm that TUBA note at 3:18!!! All-in-all, the production is excellent, but not compositionally what Im looking for, really.

119) Sonic 3D (Saturn) - Rusty Ruin Zone Act 2
Series rank: 2 of 3

VGMC History: VGMC 3 (Lost R3), VGMC 4 (Lost R6 to Moon Over the Castle)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/Wn2YxjPxnuk?t=79

One of the chillest tracks on the list! In the short intro, I love what the piano does there! The sixteenth-triplets are awesome it sounds like tremeloes combined with running up and down a half scale, and the delay is cool. Once the theme begins, the piano and guitar in the background blend seamlessly. 0:42 is chock full of intriguing harmonies. 1:20 brings the same material again, but this time the piano gets put on top fabulous writing there! More awesome piano stuff after that, too.lots of reverb that I really like. I could do without that awkward singing at 1:36 how odd. Overall it's GREAT. I need to listen to the Sonic 3D soundtrack, come to think of it.

118) Umineko no Naku Koro ni Anime - Happiness of Marionette
Series rank: 8 of 15

Composer: dai
Score: 7.8/10 (Great)
VGMC History: VGMC 3 (Lost R1), VGMC 4 (Lost R5 to Price of Freedom)
Favorite Part: https://youtu.be/PbSKE3nomeQ?t=78

Enough deliberating. This one's next. Happy Umineko music? Im down! Its almost over-the-top happy, honestly. Like a big celebration, really. I guess this kind of works if a bunch of Marionettes are being acted out. Lush string orchestration with subdued organ works really nice. Harpsichord + blacksmith ka-chings? Whatever works! You get those same blacksmith hammers in Holsts Second Suite in F. The organ at about 1:18 is unexpected, though it sounds awful sarcastic compared to everything else with how it highlights certain dissonant notes.actually, the strings at 1:28 give kind of a similar vibe, too. Very unsettling is there is some kind of lurking evil nearby? I mean, Marionettes are kind of creepy. Who knows what the composer really intended with this music?
