I don't necessarily disagree with him that Trump is going to harp incessently on the (democratic) SOCIALIST thing during a hypothetical matchup but I still think he presents the greatest challenge for Trump since he saps away that "OUTSIDER" vote Trump otherwise has locked up. Biden undeniably would do better with those independents that are moderates, but Sanders will do much better with those independents that just don't trust career politicians in general.

This also supports my perception that Biden seems to like Sanders personally, even if they disagree politically. I would predict a more genial post primary relationship between the two compared to Sanders and Clinton, at least.

as someone whose interest has dropped in and out this year (mainly because there isnt a single d candidate that i think is interesting) what happened to that guy from texas who was supposed to be the next obama and had all the celebs? obviously he dropped out but i wasnt paying attention when he did so idk what caused it

Beto? He and Pete were basically competing for the same type of campaign. He waited too long to declare his bid to the point where the media was already sick of his rural road trip gimmick and they had found and latched on to Pete by then.

He just really wasnt getting much traction nationally and most leftists really really wanted him to stay in Texas and potentially win a Senate seat instead

He changed the defining feature of his campaign to be using swear words about Trump but it wasnt enough

He was too white so no one liked him in primary season, so he apologized for being white and then went balls to the wall pander mode and promised that he'd make taxpayers pay for everyone in the US (+illegal immigrants) to get sex change operations and also murder all gun owners. He also said the F word to sound cool.

Also they absolutely do make for better contact because higher bat speed means you have more time to recognize and react to the pitch without losing the ability to make contact.

Even this past week people were mentioning Trump saying bullshit in the White House (by far the least offensive thing he said in his post-acquittal grievance tirade) as if it was the worst thing he did.

Beto's real problem was actually that when he finally announced he snubbed the national media in favor of trying to replicate his Texas campaign by doing a bunch of events with people across the country. This was at about the exact same time Buttigieg did a media blitz and went on everything and became a media darling for the first time. As a result Beto was basically ignored at best by the media while they sung Buttigieg's praises.

Not to say Beto didn't make some dumb missteps of his own. He definitely did wait too long to announce and he had that silly comment about being "born for this" or whatever in that early interview. Not that I think such a comment should have been fatal but you combine that with him not really doing media stuff and that was left as the only thing out there for the media to really talk about and amplify since they didn't want to cover his little events.

I mean, you often see in primaries various challengers rise and have their few weeks of "oh man that momentum" only to fall back down. The 2012 Republican primary is the best example. Romney was the front runner the whole time but you had a ton of candidates-of-the-week rise to "challenge" him before crashing down to earth again.

The only difference here is that Sanders might actually pull it off. But as much as it pains me Warren's rise was probably just another expression of that phenomena. I'm also going by the polling not the betting markets which I assume just overreacted to the polls and said phenomena.

I really think the media is frothing at The Biden Narrative after he crashes and burns in NH and then the black vote awakens and carries him on his comeback journey after South Carolina. Maybe that's when Obama will officially endorse him too? I have to think that he would do anything to ensure Bernie isn't the guy.

From what Ive read Obama both feels like it isnt his place to decide for the party who to nominate and thinks that to a large extent the strongest candidate will be revealed by the fact that they won without his help (not quite sure I agree given LFF and the fact that the general electorate has different preferences than the primary electorate, but it is true that primary/general strength are correlated since your ability to run a good campaign etc helps you in both).

That said, its possible he sees a huge coordination problem in the moderate lane and changes his mind (I think its unlikely, though).

If there's no majority on the first ballot the superdelegates return from the shadow dimension and can vote on subsequent ballots.

There are ~3979 pledged delegates and ~771 superdelegates.
