Nope. Can't get them at all in HGSS besides trading for pokemon holding them.

They can't be bought in DPP either, and the only way to get them is an NPC with a 25% chance of giving it to you when you show him the Pokmon he wants. If you play mostly at night, Dusk Balls are just as effective.

Use Quick Balls. They only work on the first turn but you only get one turn so it doesn't matter. You can buy them at the Safari Zone.

I know flying anywhere resets their positions, but I used to be able to fly somewhere, and if they reset near the town, I was able to trek over to where they are and fight them

NOW if I travel from one route to another, they automatically reset. I can no longer get to them, I think all I can do now is just hope they spawn on top of me as I'm traveling

theres just two tiers of status effects altering catch rates

Poison, Burn, and Paralyze are bottom

Frozen and Sleep are way better apparently

I figured with THE IMPLICATION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO FUCKING MOVE Paralyze was better than FUCKING Poison

Leave Johto, I think you can buy Dusk Balls once you boarded the SS Aqua, the catch rate on those at night (or in a cave) is ridiculous.

Also, congrats on your win. Umbreon knocked my team out on my first run. Then my Ambipom used Taunt and it couldn't Double Team anymore, hehehe. Then I just cried against Lance's Gyarados for an hour before beating him.

BCN is down to the max health of a Pokemon and then level shenanigans and I think you can get outstatted as well if you're unlucky.

Do Pokathlon, it's a lot easier if you are decent at the minigames. I don't know how much the difficulty increases after the E4, but the only one that wanted to make me stab my eyes out was Skill (and maybe Power, but mostly Skill).

Quick Balls have a 4x multiplier on the first turn while Dusk Balls have a 3.5x multiplier at night or in caves. Ultra Balls only have a 2x multiplier, so you're just getting very unlucky.

Togekiss is such a battle upgrade over Togetic. Way speedier, hits much harder...if you have a Heart Scale, go to the Move Relearner in Blackthorn and give it Air Slash for special STAB!

I decided to tie up a few loose ends. I went and caught that natu. I explored Union Cave while I was at it, I found a whole new basement level but it leads to a dead end so I don't know what the point was. I remember between two of the town's, I think one of them was mahogany oh, there's a cave that you can only get to by surfing. I explored that and it's a part of Mount Magmar. They started exploring it, I needed waterfall for one part of it. And I found a karate King who was willing to give me a Hitmonchan or Hitmonlee but I needed an open spot on my team. How the goddamn hell was I supposed to know this going in? But just as well, because guess what? There's some goddamn rock climb sections here? Which means I have to come here again anyways. I may as well just wait because I'm not even going to use that fighting Pokemon anyways. One thing I didn't update on was I realize my Haunter has a move called me look, it prevents people from running. But my Haunter is level 15 so I grinded him up to level 30. I finally caught the damn dogs. I threw at least 7 Dusk Balls and then each. I think I really am ready for Kanto now

On the fence is Ford

Gyarados and steelix would get the definite bench.

Of course, scizor is popping up again. Since I have a murkrow, I was thinking Honchkrow again!

See I'm starting to think Honchkrow and scizor would be redundant

They would both be anti psychic. And honestly Grater has been a decent anti psychic anyways because they rarely have the tools to destroy a water type.

There's no real answer for anti dragons. No matter what you do, the dragons move pool is so big that they can counter you. They can have fire to beat Ice types, and they can have thunder to beat water type with ice attacks, since they did just that against grater and zang.

Also, I doubt id be running into THAT many more dragons now that I beat the Dragon gym and lance. So I'm probably okay not worrying about it

Yea, I hate backtracking and having to remember places where I have to come back when I get a new ability or item

Some places its fine, like Megaman X and Zelda, but I fucking HATE metroidvanias.

I'm not saying this game is Metroidvania, but there are some places with Rock Climb near the beginning of the game. I'm just gonna have to walk the whole game over on foot to find everything

I was trying to keep Grater as legit as possible. He knows waterfall because its actually a viable move.

and hes pretty versatile with Bite and Ice Fang.

I want to keep Grater cause hes my starter. Bellossom because grass type and my cutter, but also because she handles the catching of pokemon with Sleep Powder. And I want to keep Togekiss because I JUST GOT HIM.

Electric is really good too, I was thinking about Keeping Ford, but once I think about it, Its just Anti Water and Bird. I have those through other means. HMMMMM

Steel is immune to poison and super effective against...Rock and Ice. Dark is weak to Bug and Fighting.

So Honchkrow is super-effective to it's two Dark weaknesses.

Now deciding between honchkrow and houndoom.

Honchkrow is awesome in general. So stylish and fullof Swagger. But the thing is I already used him in my Platinum playthrough. And I would be having a second bird on my team. Houndoom would be beneficial because of this fire. I don't have a good answer for steel. I don't have a good answer for ice either but that one is more situational I think

Whirlpool is not necessary at all, only to get in the Dragon's Den, to the E4 the first time and the Whirl Islands. There's no need to teach it to have it on your team at all times. Same goes for Rock Smash really.

You mean a Tauros/Kangaskhan, right? I think I might've had even more trouble with Kangaskhan than I did with Tauros, though they're both ridiculous.

Chansey is only a problem if you're doing Yellow Version or the remakes. Red/Blue had them available in Cerulean Cave.

Scyther/Pinsir are available at the Game Corner if you have too much trouble getting them normally. Though I seem to remember catching Pinsir properly in Yellow, since they lowered its level in that game enough that you could procure one for Pika Cup in Stadium. (Which is not to say that you should, because Pinsir's movepool was ass for at least three generations or so. Maybe longer.)
