Note that whatever router you connect to has to be set to WEP security instead of WPA, which is honestly probably the single worst thing about the DS.

What kind if phone do you have? Setting up a wifi hotspot isn't that hard. I do it all the time for Pokemon Go.

So I go to some Island Town and they give me some medicine. I talk to some NPCs and one of them is like oh bee tee dub I have fly beat the gym right quick

I have never been so uninterested or just casually beat a gym in my entire life.

So at long last I have fly. I don't know if it's my game or my 3DS itself but it's a day ahead. So it's Thursday , so I went in flew to the national park and did the bug catching contest. I caught a Scyther! I actually sat here and considered having a Scyther in my team. In eventual Scizor. But I decided to go to the Internet and look up his move pool. He can't learn rock climb :-(. I only had Onyx here as an HM whore. And Gyarados cant learn it either.

As far as HMs go, I usually the Red Gyarados for water HMs in Johto games (though I tend to give Surf to anything that'll learn it and has decent special attack) and Strength, and I tend to just distribute the rest around my team without much concern.

Though my two most recent Pokemon playthroughs I did have dedicated HM users (Tropius and Swampert in Emerald, who can learn all 8 of gen 3's HMs between them and Gyarados with Furret for Cut/Strength/Surf in VC Crystal. I don't use Flash lmao)

I never really worried too much about HM slaves other than making sure my team can learn the relevant ones.

Surf and Waterfall are among the top water moves and while for Strength and Rock Climb, there are better normal moves the base power is high enough for it to not matter (it's not like the games are hard anyway). While Dive and Fly are two-turn moves, the AI rarely switches so it doesn't matter. Defog, Flash and Whirlpool are so situational that I usually don't teach the moves to a main party member, only bringing a box Pokemon for when I really need it.

That leaves Cut and Rock Smash as the annoying ones. If they never removed HMs in the later games I hoped they would have buffed them in some way, like make cut a high-crit move and rock smash have a guaranteed defense drop.

Rock Smash was a lot better in Gen 5 and X/Y when it was a decent early fighting TM that a ton of stuff could learn.

Not much need to report. Still dealing with a lot of stuff. But I will say that someone did trade in their copy of HeartGold so I had a co-worker bring their DS in and I did a Switchback and now I have a Steelix. I'm still debating whether or not I should have a Scizor but I think my decision is that the only reason I had Steelix was to be an HM whore. If I was trying to be semi competent, then there'd be a Scizor in the team

I took on the steel gym. At first it was intimidating . Like the ice gym, I have no counters against it

But then the gym ended up just two magnemites and a steelix. >_>

You may have literally done the intended 7th gym before 5th/6th btw, which probably made those two feel lamer than they usually would (Steelix and Poliwrath are supposed to be very solid challenges for those points in the game, at least as far as an in-game pokemon gym goes)

If your Dunsparce has Serene Grace (doubles the rate at which special effects kick in) then you should use it as a wacky gimmick Pokmon with things like 60% flinch from Headbutt and 20% all-stats-up on AncientPower. If it has Run Away, then sadly, it is just a generic Normal type.

I fondly recall training up a Rock Slide wielding DOOMSPARCE for use in 2v2s against my cousins (with Trick Room support). There are better ways to win, but Dunsparce is a mighty fine way to make people say "What generation is that even from? I don't recognize it, like, at all."

Dunsparce is one of those Pokmon that's really good for where it can first be caught, but isn't good in the long run.

I suddenly feel better about not having bellossom on my team. My justification is that I used to play Red version. Bellsprouts we're not in Red, so I'm still exploring something new with this. And second, bellossom involves with the use of a stone. Again, I looked up a little guide and these Stones don't seem to be available anytime soon. At the very least post joto.

Nah, Sun Stone is available where you're at now.

Tauros is still pretty good, yeah. Not nearly as good as in Gen I though because like most Normal-types, their Special stat became their Special Defense at the split.

Generation II was basically conceived as an expansion/sequel to the original; it actually had the working title "Pocket Monsters 2" in production. The idea of each successive generation being its own self-contained entity only came about starting in Gen III.

Honestly, he's probably better off with a second Haunter than a Misdreavus. But yeah, he should've had Haunter, Misdreavus, Gengar. Falkner should've had a Hoothoot instead of Pidgey, Bugsy should've had Pineco and Yanma instead of the cocoons, and Chuck should've had Hitmontop in addition to what he had. Change Primeape to a Mankey if he's too hard after that. Jasmine and Price at least already had a Johto Pokemon.

But I think the problem there is that they wanted you to discover the new Pokemon on your own. So they wanted you to find Pineco for the first time by headbutting trees and find Sneasel and Misdreavus randomly in the final dungeon. A good chunk of Johto Pokemon were annoying to find like that.

So team rocket took over goldenrod city and I'm gonna take them on.

I had to disguise myself as one of them but the ginger kid blew my cover. Ah well just gonna do the usual and raid them.

I will say, that was a missed opportunity. A mission where we infiltrate Team Rocket as one of them would have been fun. And the kid looked kind of cool in Black. I wish that photographer guy was around for a picture

I liberated the radio station and apparently disbanded Team Rocket again. Considering they were ready to come back and we're even calling for their leader, they broke apart really easily. I was pissed off because I thought the director of the radio station was going to give me rock climb something. I'm a little annoyed. Also I've finally been running into different Johto Pokemon. If I ran into Houndour or natu earlier in the game, I would have totally rocked them on my team
