Today's tea: Pint of Rwandan black tea for work. Home, pint of decaffinated Ceylon tea, which was the last sampler freebie. Didn't like it very much, had an almost fishy taste like puer.

Today's tea: Pint of abnormal Nilgiri tea for work. Home, made 2 pints of masala chai. It smelled different than usual while brewing it because I was near the bottom of the tin, and the small spices are concentrated. It tasted practically the same as usual though. Next time I pickup more masala chai, I want to pick up a powdered form from amazon, and/or the premade liquid, which Target for some reason, carries.

Today's morning tea: 2 pints of masala chai. I added black pepper because apparently that's what some chai recipes call for. The mild spiciness kinda overpowers the other spicy flavors.

Yesterday's tea: a pint of a Yixing black tea with dinner.

Today's tea: two pints of Masala Chai. It boiled over on me. Haven't done that in a while. It only takes seconds. I was standing right there, stirring it for the hell of it, don't know if it actually makes it better, but it feels so. I saw it foaming up, and the minor roadblock from having my hands full, hampered me just enough that it boiled over right as I was lifting the pot off the stove. Note to self: BE READY to lift pot off the heat when anticipating the boil over.

Also bought cardamom from the grocery store to spice it more, since the mix I'm using doesn't have enough of it. $10 for a 2 oz. container, fuck.

I bought an electric kettle, works great. I always use it. Except when making masala chai, you gotta do it the stovetop way. And even if I did and could make masala chai with a kettle, it's going to be impossible cleaning up the kettle.

I've been drinking a lot of maple black tea recently.

But I'm also quite fond of a chocolate macaroon tea, a cardamom french toast tea, honey black, mango black. Basically I drink mostly black tea.

I do like chamomile in the evenings though.

Today's tea: 1 Pint of Chinese black tea blend. Love it.

@RCtheWSBC I mentioned what I did to make masala chai earlier. I use a premade mix, and add more black tea. I've been experimenting with ratios and brewing time trying to find perfection, but honestly, it's hard to notice a difference. Only time I fucked it up was when I tried using almond milk instead of whole milk because some recipe online called for it.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AR6OUCG/

1 pint of water. 1 heaping tablespoon of masala chai mix. 1 tablespoon strong loose leaf black tea. 2-3 tablespoons of sugar. Mix all, and bring to boil, Simmer 3 minutes. Add 1 pint of whole milk. Bring to boil, take off heat, strain, and it's good. Note: it will try to foam over quickly when the boil starts rolling, so be vigilant. Apparently, it's heresy if you don't do the last step of trying to make it boil over after milk is added. I haven't tried skipping that step.

Generally, 1 tablespoon of black tea per pint. I find that the mixes I've used doesn't have enough black tea. It ends up a bit weak with the 1 tablespoon of mix per pint. So, you either have to use more of the mix, or supplement it with more black tea. I also find the spices a bit too strong, so I supplement it with more black tea.

Honestly, I've never tried masala chai outside of me making it, so I'm really unsure how it's suppose to taste.

Today's tea: For work, pint of presumably generic Assam black tea. I decided to added milk and sugar to it, as it is the English way, and I hadn't had it tea that way aside from all the masala chai I've been making. Still prefer it straight. Pint of Camomile at home.

Also, bought more tea. I bought loose leaf camomile, and more of that chinese black tea blend. I did want to buy more of that smoked tea, but I have too much tea in my cabinet. I'm pretty sure I'm stocked enough that I can make it to the end of the year if I stopped buying tea and kept drinking 2 pints a day.

Yesterday's tea: pint of Chinese black tea blend for the road.

Today's tea: 1.5+ pints of a prestigious Chinese dark oolong called dahongpao, literal translation, big red robe. It's good, a very rich oolong. I wouldn't pay the $300+ pricetag for a pound of it though. Parents got it as a gift. Also forgot to mention, brewed it grandpa style.

@Revelation34 , typical Western brewing style is boil water, pour into vessel, brew 3-5 minutes, and strain.

Grandpa style, is you leave the leaf in your cup, and as you drink it, you top it off with hot water when it's empty, or when there's 1/2 or 1/3 of a cup left (in order to retain more tea flavor). Named after the favored way of old people, and the easygoing/lazy way to drink a lot of tea without care for consistency. Grandpa style works best for green tea and oolong, because black tea easily makes it too bitter when it's constantly extracting. Also, use less leaf than the typical (2 g per cup ala western), and add more when flavor is weakening.

Today's tea: a pint of Rwandan black tea for work, and I tried it with a lemon slice, because lemon with tea is a thing, and I want to try it. Awful. Tasted only astringent lemon, and no tea. I'm pretty sure it's because it sat in my thermos, and basically just cooked nonstop. Maybe I need to use a bolder tea, and not cook the lemon in my thermos.

Also, just made a pint of Ceylon black tea for the evening.

Today's tea: Tried the lemon again, but this time, I just squeezed a slice. 1 pint, Used a mix of generic assam and my ceylon to try to make it more bold. It was better than last time, but still too lemony. I could taste the tea, but just barely. Though drinking it, I could feel the caffeination.

Also, a pint of masala chai with dinner. I decided to try simmering it after the milk is added for much longer. A+, very good. Though, I did use 3 tablespoons of sugar instead of 2, which is like, soda amounts of sugar.

I opened my tea package, and they shipped me a pound instead of 8 oz. Christ, I'm not going to complain, but a pound of tea makes 113.5 pints of tea. If I drank solely this tea at the rate I consume tea, it will take almost 2 months. And, the other tea I bought was chamomile, which I was exploited into buying a pound of, because I get 11x the volume for only 3x the cost. So now I got 2 more pounds of tea in my already large tea cabinet.

Remind me to not buy more tea.

Yesterday's tea: Pint of Nilgiri black tea later that night. Did some caffeinated sleeping. So focused on sleeping, it kinda works.

Also, yea. Was definitely some caffeinated mania happening yesterday. I did brew that masala chai extra strong.

Today's tea: Pint of Rwandan black tea for work. Home, pint of Da Hong Pao. I haven't tried to brew it gong fu style even though that's what you're suppose to do for high quality stuff, because last time I tried was a learning experience, and I'm still kinda scared to make it awfully.

Yeah, that's about what I was expecting.

I made a similar mistake once. I ordered some rooibos matcha and either I didn't see how much I was ordering, or I misread it or something... but a two pound bag of it showed up with the rest of my order. 1.5 years later, and I've barely made a dent in it.

I like rooibos.

Yesterday's tea: Big cup of Ceylon black tea in the morning. Don't know how I brewed it differently, but I tasted a hint of malt like in Assam tea, but with minimal bitterness. Didn't have my thermos to make tea for work because I thought I left it at work when it was actually just in my car. Home from work, didn't get a second pint of anything, passed out from food coma and slept 11 hours.

Today's tea: Pint of Yixing black tea. Tasted some bitterness which normally never happens with this tea, but the other notes took over after I kept drinking it.

Also I'm sick. Might be messing up my taste/smell.

Yesterday night's tea: a pint of the chamomile/lavender blend. Really good, but the lavender is pretty strong.

Today's tea: a pint of chamomile/lavender blend from a resteeping of yesterday's brew. The lavender didn't come out quite as strong. Still good. Also, a pint of the Chinese black tea blend. It did taste different from the batch I had originally ordered. More rich, but less fragrant/floral. Tastes better when it's no longer scalding.

That reminds me, I've gotten really good at physically drinking hot beverage. Even if something was just boiling moments ago, you can still drink it by taking the tiniest sip. Not effective when trying to drink large quantities. It's like eating sunflower seeds one at a time.

Tea has caffeine, just not typically as much as coffee.

I'm not too fond of Earl Grey. I've tried it from Twinnings, Bigelow, and Taylor's of Harrogate. I've still got a box from Taylors, which I'm contemplating donating to my workplace break room. The Bergamot flavor feels like an artificial citrus that makes the tea flavor itself take a backseat.

If I'm someplace and not getting off to my own stash, I try to get english breakfast tea.

Today's tea: Pint of Ceylon black tea for work. Pint of a Chinese black tea blend at home after dinner.

At the end of January, I want to tally my consumption, and see how much I've drank this month.
