Today's tea: Pint of generic Assam black tea for work. Home, Pint of Masala chai, extra strong, extra sugar. Learning experience. I guess I haven't been making it bold enough because sometimes, the richness of the milk was more prominent than the spice or the tea flavor.

I just had some boring mint green tea today, and Earl grey of course.

Tonight I'll probably make a pot of "valerian nights" (chamomile with caramel, coconut, valerian root, and a few other things) as my after dinner drink.

This morning's tea: Pint of black tea from Thailand. I didn't like it very much the first time I tried it. But this time, I tried brewing it with a lower temperature, and it came out really good. It's like a Darjeeling, but has its own distinct floral notes. Very smooth. I gotta try brewing the Nilgiri tea I have this way.

whooooooaaaaaa,

Today's tea: So I fucked up. Hit the snooze button too many times. Was gonna have 1 pint of the Chinese black tea blend. About to depart for work on time, and was like, why do the tea leaves look weird. Why is the brew not dark. Fuck. I didn't actually boil the water. So I had to go to work without tea, which I can't remember when's the last time I've done so. I figured I might at well let it cold brew while I'm gone. I got back from work and an outing, and It's really interesting. Not the slightest bitterness. Tastes almost sweet compared to other unsweetened iced tea I've had. Light/medium bodied, same floral notes, but crisp and refreshing.

Also, it's really caffeinated compared to most iced teas.

I wish I liked earl grey but it's not black enough for me. English breakfast black works, but I'm cheap now adays and go with Lipton black tea (2 bags). The bags are 2 cents each, so my cup of tea is 5 cents (when you factor in cream/sugar).

If I get english black etc, it's more like 50 cents a cup and I have 2 cups a day....so it would add up, and I like lipton just fine.

Today's tea: Pint of Earl Grey while at work. For work, pint of generic Assam, but I tried to use a tiny amount of lemon because all other attempts at using lemon were less than ideal. This was the worst attempt at using lemon. I counted 12 drops of lemon juice. It tasted weakly of lemon, and the tea flavor was still completely washed out. But the worst thing is, it tasted like a mediocre tomato. The slight acidic taste was really off putting. I'ma try something else tomorrow.

Just remembered, that tea that I couldn't recall. Rwanda black tea, and I brewed using too much tea leaf because it was very one note. I remember this now because today, I brewed the same tea exceptionally well. I think It's because the brewing temperature was lower because I let the kettle sit for 5-10 minutes.

Also made 1 pint of Earl Grey while at work. It's actually pretty good with dairy creamer. Bergamot tastes a lot better with some kinda milk/cream.

Also, 1 pint of a Chinese blend home from work.

Today's tea: 1 pint of Chinese black tea blend for work, 1 pint of earl grey at work, 1 pint of masala chai home from work. Don't know why I'm surprised, but people are going through the earl grey that I stocked in the break room pretty fast. I'm fully out of Masala chai.

I've gone through at least half of my stock of that Ceylon tea and Rwandan tea, but I'm months away from finishing that chinese black tea blend given that I originally got a whole pound of.

Well to be fair, a pound is a lot of fucking tea. To put it in perspective, when I was a heavy, heavy weed smoker an ounce was enough for like 3 weeks to a month. I would have to start selling most of a pound or cooking with it to stop it from going bad.

Luckily, tea is considerably more shelf-stable.

Today's tea: 1 pint Chinese blend for work. Home, 1 pint of oolong tea. Tried a sampler from my 3 dozen sampler set. It was Rou gui tea, an oolong from Wuyi which means cinnamon. I expected to not taste cinnamon. I did not taste cinnamon and was still slightly disappointed. Tastes just like any another toasty oolong, but on the slightly milder side. I'm sure if it was real quality rou gui tea, I'd understand the cinnamon likeness.

Today's tea: 1 pint of rebrewed oolong. 1 cup earl grey + cream/sugar, 1 pint Puer. So the rebrewed oolong had a bit of the old/stale taste given that it sat around for a night. Not very good, but when the tea cool downed, it was a lot more agreeable. Earl Grey tea bags practically ran out now. After vacation, I'll bring to work my box of yorkshire gold teabags that I practically never touch. I feel like no one's going to stick to it, given that it overbrews really easily and becomes kinda awful.

I have in stock 3 different things of Puer. Busted out the western audience marketed one. It's still ok, and better than the other puer I've tried. It's got some other herbs/garnishes and orange flavoring, but I give the tea a rinse to wash away most of the orange flavoring. I don't know how to put it's taste into words. You could probably fool someone that it's not tea?

So Puer FYI; it's is a fermented tea, well known in China, not so much in the west. Can be described as an acquired taste. There's 2 kinds, unripe, which takes several years of aging for it to be palpable (and thus, is expensive if it's not poor quality), and ripened, utilizing a modernized technique to greatly speed up the aging. Flavor is described as complex/earthy/woody, and can vary wildly based on it's age. Also, known for a fishy taste/smell, which can be overpowering if not repulsive, if it's not aged well enough.

Back from vacation/convention. Had 1 big cup of chamomile, 2 big cups of keemun black tea. We'll just call them pints even though they weren't.

Febuary Totals:

1 Ceylon
2 Rwanda
14 Chinese black tea blend
3 Masala
1 Nilgiri
3 Assam
1 Camomile
6 Earl Grey
1 Rooibos
2 Oolong
1 Puer
2 Keemun

37 Pints, 32 were black tea. Averaging 1.3 pints a day. Dunno why I'm surprised I drank so much of the blend. Been going at it because I have so much of it and that it's good.

Trying more stuff from my sampler pack... It wasn't a black tea, I've been deceived. The tea packets are colored red for black tea, but this one was half white, half red, like Poland's flag. Immediately noticed that it wasn't black tea. Brewed it anyways. Had a strange aroma that I found familiar but unidentifiable. I managed to transcribe 2 of the 4 characters on the packaging into google translate (hard as because the characters are cursive. Apparently it's called Snow chrysanthemum, a chrysanthemum with a unique flavor/aroma that grows only wild in an alpine region in Xinjiang province, (desolate area in NW china, culturally more central asian than chinese, where most of the Chinese Uyghurs are). It doesn't smell like the chrysanthemum I know, but it indeed tastes like chrysanthemum, but more heavily bodied. Parsing my memory, the smell reminds me of Chinese herbal medicines.
