Want steak and lobster? Work and buy some and pay taxes
If you are that desperate for a handout that's fine, but it should be used responsibly for healthy foods that can be purchased in bulk and keep forna while.
No one should be used snap or food tickets for luxury items it's scamming the system. A system in which hard working people pay for your free luxury food

why would their employer want to stop you?
Their employer doesnt really matter likely they wont be present to stop or allow it. But for legal reasons id assume theyd have it set as policy to not allow it.

Ya I'm sure the officials who put it in place wants the recipients of the handouts to blow it on steak and lobster instead of being responsible. It isnt surprising though as irresponsibility is generally what is needed to enter the program

Id rather that than another 400 billion on a failed rocket program that we change every 5 years. Trillions spent on 2 wars since 9/11 blah blah blah. People let that shit slide but cry about poor people eating.

It's not that we're "letting it slide". A lot of us are against the wars, but since some extremely powerful and influential people want the wars to happen, it's difficult to get anyone to listen to us or to make anything happen. On the other hand, there are politicians who do listen when it comes to welfare, and we actually have seen some stricter policies or even massive cuts to welfare programs as a result.

What are you even trying to say?

We live in a country where it's citizens talk tough but won't do anything. We have enough guns and White men in America to stand up to the government and make them listen to war concerns. But that's not going to happen. It's too much of a hassle and a threat to the comfort provided.

Americans in general aren't willing to risk losing something just so somebody else can live a little better, even if they aren't actually even losing anything personally.

ITT you have people who can't live on their own trying to explain why other people struggling shouldn't be allowed a damned steak.

Everyone has a multitude of policies they'd like to see implemented. Not being able to get one of them done doesn't mean you give up on everything else.

Are you in favor of anything that hasn't been achieved such as universal healthcare? If so, then I guess you better not support any lesser policies according to your own reasoning.

It saddens me how some people think the poor should just be treated like shit and that they aren't allowed to have any enjoyment or make any choices until they get back on their feet
Just once I'd like to see one of these topics without a lot of people that act like any time they don't get things they want is an act of cruelty. It's punitive yes, but it's supposed to be. I've sen it with family and friends: with the right access to social programs you can find yourself eating better than some people that don't get any form of assistance. Not "poor" but still barely covering all your bills, too bad, enjoy the tuna casserole and tap water after a long day of work while someone that didn't have to get up until noon seems to have pizza and beer.

The system is designed to help struggling people/families who desperately need food and cannot afford to feed themselves. It is not meant to be extra cash for McDonald's or Pizza Hut.

Around here, food stamp trading is wide-spread. People who benefit from the program will trade $100 in groceries for $50 in cash to go buy drugs/alcohol, and there's really nothing that can be done to stop it. The best that can be done to prevent the worst kind of abuse of the program (which is paid for by us, not 'the government') is to regulate what can and cannot be purchased with it.

Don't blame the system for its flaws, blame the people who abused it.
Indeed. I remember as a kid when this lady dressed to the nines in front of my family whipped out the food stamp booklet to pay for her steaks and other 'higher end' food. Meanwhile we've got cheaper shit in our cart and my family paid out of pocket for it. I'm all for helping people who need help. But restricting it to just food you prepare at home and requiring an ID that has to be swiped through to make sure the beneficiary is the one buying the food would be a good first step.

As someone on food stamps, yes, some places are sticklers about how you warm up the food afterwards, to the extent a lot of places where I am actually *removed* public microwaves for *anyone* to use just to stop the so-called "abuse of the system".

You also can't buy *any* pre-cooked food that's still warm/hot, it *must* have been chilled first for an arbitrary amount of time even when it's literally the exact product. This is especially notorious with chicken meals, but the most hilarious example is ready to go soup.

With the microwaves? Yes. The only place I know of with a community microwave is the homeless shelter I'm at, but that's obviously limited to those actually living at the shelter, random folks can't just walk in and use them.

With the whole "exact same product at different degrees of warmth" thing? No, right away I can name Wal-Mart, Safeway, and WinCo as doing stuff like that.

Well some people think those on federal programs are just handed more and more free money as quickly as they can spend it on luxury goods. That would be far more expensive if it wasn't completely devoid of reality.
