From page 5 of the report:

In its review of the 2016 elections, the Committee found no evidence that vote tallies were altered or that voter registry files were deleted or modified, though the Committee and IC's insight into this is limited

At a cursory glance, it seems like they believe that Russia conducted extensive probing/scanning of voting networks but don't have evidence to say that they directly interfered in the election itself.

If someone reads something else in the report that suggests otherwise then feel free to point it out.

Keep in mind that tampering with registration data to selectively prevent people from voting has the same effect as directly tampering with votes.

Yup, although that would be easier to detect, because it produces frustrated would-be voters. Still, I think this provides a sound argument for why people should be allowed to register to vote on Election Day, and I "look forward" to politicians disregarding it because it could also give their rivals more votes.

By voter data, do they mean registration data or actual votes?

"The Committee has seen no evidence that any votes were changed or that any voting machines were manipulated". There's a largely redacted footnote.

Ah, sorry if that gave you the wrong impression.

That specific quote I highlighted comes from Page 22 of the report, and specifically refers to the Illinois voter registration database. It does go on to state that while they were in the position to delete or change voter data they (the Committee) have no evidence they did so. They did however, at the least, access up to 200,000 voter registration records, viewed multiple database tables, and the "exfiltration of an unknown quantity of voter registration data" which they go to state includes names, addresses, partial SSNs, date of birth, and either a driver's license number or state Id number.

That's Illinois and one of the few times we even get a state named in this report. Most of the other States are simply given a number on top of heavy redaction. It also lists citations of various FBI/cybersecurity officials concerned that essentially this was a recon run where they were gathering info on how the systems worked for a future effort.

And on the cynical/tinfoil-y side... it's not exactly encouraging that every time this story comes back the information gets worse. Initially it was like, "They tried in a few states but were caught and failed across the board." then "Okay, actually they weren't caught in these two states and actually got in this one." This is the first time to my knowledge that we've been told that all 50 states were targeted. The number has risen over the past two years or so this story has made the rounds.

If Iran ever got nuclear weapons, we'd have to be nice to them too. That's why we need to use maximum pressure to stop them from getting them.

The agreement basically said that Iran could get nuclear weapons after some time had passed. And admitted that the US would not do anything to stop it.

The new strategy is to convince Iran that the US is willing to go to war to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Hence, tweetstorms and hyperbolic rhetoric. When Iran is convinced of their impending peril, they will back down.

Not indefinitely and you know this. It had multiple end dates for restrictions. It was passing the ball on the issue to future administration's and giving Iran the economical freedom in the mean time.

Same situations existed under Obama and are existing moreso now because Trump is following the law as it is written.

The places can't be overcrowded without there being an overwhelming influx of illegal immigration and asylum claims, lawyers clogging the system up with appeals, and political red tape.

There are solutions that exist that don't include letting everyone in. That is where you come off as using the situation for political goals. You don't care about the conditions of the people there because you refuse to accept any solutions that aren't your own to fix them.

Tell me how someone is coming through multiple nations for asylum from their nation yet are ending up in the United States. This is not considered an asylum immigrant. As if leaving their country was the reason, they could have stopped in any country in between. This is reasoned immigration and there is an immigration system that is to be followed.

If true, the question is why? What is the underlying reason?

We know the system is clogged right now. Trump has asked for additional judges to get cases done faster. Has been denied. He has asked to fast track cases. Denied. Has asked to limit claims before they are made. Denied. Asked for a walk to help limit illegal crossings. Denied.

The system is being clogged because we are refusing to allow solutions to be done. Even ones not pertaining to the wall.

While it's no secret that Obama was bad on deportations (and indeed, this was one of the biggest points of disagreement the left had with him, along with the usual foreign policy issues) it should be noted that illegal border crossings had been declining sharply from 2000-2016. In fact, at the start of 2017 they were at their lowest recorded point since 1971.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/01/11/us/politics/trump-border-crisis-reality.html

(The graph shows arrests, but as the article notes, DHS estimates that undetected border crossing had actually dropped even faster.)

They started spiking again as the Trump administration started implementing/flirting with/talking about all its zero tolerance ****. So, yes, a crisis of this administration's making.

You could argue that stronger enforcement just catches more if it. I mean, Undetected numbers are estimates that could be laughably off. They are undetected for a reason.
