I am saying that because it's true and it's still the most popular (or least opposed rather) option. And the EU have already said they would accept it provided the four freedoms were kept in tact.

Again, why are you commenting if you don't even know how the EU works and aren't affected by this? It's just stifling actual discussion. The only explanation is your strange desire to have the UK become an American vassal state. Of course leave or remain, there is a huge majority in the UK opposed to letting the US slash regulations and take over services in return for trade. So I would look elsewhere...

yeah, before your posts, i was gonna make a comment about how i have frequently had people in this topic going "WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT AMERICAN POLITICS YOU'RE NOT EVEN AMERICAN" but absolutely nobody seemed to have a problem with a bunch of americans/canadians discussing british/european politics >_>

for the record, i think anyone can talk about whatever they want, but having sufficient knowledge of what you're talking about is nice. (not saying i always do when it comes to american politics, but i try my best!)

I have no desire for vassalage. More a partnership. I don't like the way the EU bullied Greece and I would like to see a reunified Ireland. I find the fearmongering by remainers extremely reminiscent of fearmongering by Democrats opposed to trade wars here. I also find London's treatment of the rest of the country similar to NY/LA/SF here, but on steroids, because it is an EU financial center. Would like to see a balance of power more in favor of less densely populated areas.

Long term, I would like to see a new common market comprised of the UK and other countries unhappy with the lack of democracy and economic austerity imposed by the EU.

Oh yeah just to be clear it is fine as long as there is informed discussion. It definitely makes for a break from TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP. On which note I hate when Trump tries to shoehorn himself into brexit as if he has anything to do with it...

Well to your first point the UK government had no mandatory austerity yet implemented it anyway. What the EU did to Greece is awful but can be stopped by removing the EPP from power democratically. The EU is a democracy after all, in many ways moreso than the UK itself since it actually has Proportional Representation. I do not support many right wing EU policies but I fully support the European project itself.

Second, wanting a united Ireland through border chaos helps nobody. I live in Ireland and there is no desire for a return to violence which is the step before what you want and likely the step after it.

Lastly, and this is quite personal, the EU has nothing to do with centralisation around London. My entire family is from the North East, it was Thatcher destroying industry without viable replacements. It is easy to understand why those areas were so desperate for a change to the status quo but those were the areas which the EU invested in the most and the areas that will be the most damaged by brexit, while London survives. The reality is the opposite of what you say. A lot of poor people are going to have their lives get much worse, especially with the Tories in power.

To follow up on this, although Mueller's evidence does lead one pretty easily to the conclusion that Trump is guilty of obstruction, he's almost certainly saying here that Trump legally could be charged with a crime when he left office, not that he should be. In his opening statement in the second round of questions (before the House Intelligence Committee) he clarified an earlier answer to Ted Lieu by emphasizing that he did not make a decision to prosecute and was not saying that he would have if not for the OLC opinion that a president can't be indicted.

(That said, I think there's little doubt that he would have... but he doesn't want to say it without actually doing it).

Anyway, following up on the election interference news, Senate Intel released a report yesterday.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/25/us/politics/russian-hacking-elections.html

-Election systems in all 50 states were targeted in 2016.
-"Russian cyberactors were in a position to delete or change voter data"
-Russian officials had requested to send election observers to polling places in 2016

The report is so heavily redacted even the sections on recommendations to fix things have heavy redaction... so state officials can't even see them if they lack security clearances.

Happy Friday!
