I'd call myself a smalltime pessimist. Compared to actual pessimistic people I'm an optimist because I really do try to believe good things can happen if you work at them, but at the same time you're basically always working against the natural flow of things for that to happen. I consider myself a realist over either one, and reality is generally not pleasant.

I've been both over the years and it feels like your stance on this really does end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy for things you actually have influence over. These days I choose to be an optimist and life seems to be affirming that choice.

I've been pushing myself more and more to become an Optimist and to stand up against the pessimists of the world. Especially when I'm making videos I try to be as positive as possible and push good energy out into the world. I want people to feel happy watching our stuff, as that is the kind of content I seek out as well.

In life in general I try to do the same, but to a lesser extent. My wife gets the brunt of all my venting for the most part, and my friends will vent to each other about nerdy shit like AAA devs or terrible Comic Book movies/spinoff TV shows.

I avoid politics 100% because it's a dumpster fire no matter what side you're on, or don't choose a side.

i'd go with optimist, actually (though, like lopen, i'd say "realist" is a still better description of me).

most people who know me well disagree but i really do care way more about enjoying and talking about the good things in life than accentuating the negative. it just sticks more with people when i'm being negative, i guess.

I really cannot vote on this one. Pessimism is a self fulfilling prophecy (this leads to the downfall of many sports teams. Fans call out for the coach's firing and the team just gives up leading the coach to be fired. One poor season and the coach is gone)

But I also really hate when people call certain characters in games useless. I see most blades in Xenoblade 2 being called bad when they all can be used to beat the game. I see healers being called useless because of "crit healing" which requires items from the end of the game and or challenge mode, which not everyone plays. I see people saying Fire Emblem tanks are useless when I tend to turtle and move across the map slower meaning I personally find them useful.

But if people around are so negative, I feel negative too. I want people to be more positive. Focus more on the good people did, even if they did bad things too. People should be given a chance to change and atone for the bad they did, I've known people who messed up once and have been ruined for life.
I guess that since I do want people to change and become better, that makes me an optimist?
