YouTube only flat out censors "unofficial" channels when they drift into flat out xenophobia. The more "mild" anti immigration stuff is very popular on YouTube and doing very well. They "soft censor" a lot of things, though, because of how the monetization algorithm works. Even channels that aren't political in the slightest and aren't really "offensive" in any way other than occasionally using "strong language" have mentioned how they're seeing their videos take the hit, and how hard it is to appeal to YouTube without suffering as a content creator. YouTube is very much trying to sterilize itself so that the Coca-Colas and Disneys of the world will continue to give them money, because Google literally does not give a fuck about free speech or anyone creating content on their system. As others have mentioned in the past, neither the viewers nor the creators are YouTube's "customers". YouTube's customers are the major advertisers, and the viewers and content creators are just the resource Google exploits to make more money from the ad agencies. It's gonna be interesting because youtube doesn't actually turn a profit. It's being propped up by Alphabets other institutions. Where I do take issue is these tech companies actively working with governments to control the dissemination of info to the public. This is a platform that does really well in Massachusetts, as we have a pretty long history of Republican Governors (including Weld) that have high approval ratings despite Massachusetts being a liberal state. Our current Governor, Charlie Baker is a great example of this. Very high approval ratings (highest of all Governors) and a Republican.
