I am kind of wanting to level as Elemental just because it sounds more appealing to me, thematically. But Enhancement just seems so superior. It's kind of a drag. Still probably gonna go elemental though. The funny part is, these first talents are so insignificant that I'm up to level 12 and still haven't spent any talents because I haven't decided yet.

(And, yeah I made that post about rolling alliance. And I did that, but then my friends sucked me into playing with them...as was inevitable. Plus I haven't been able to get less than an hour wait time on that alliance server since night 1.)

Sulfuras seems to be at the sweet spot for server population. Every time I've logged in (typically during prime time) it's been a 10-15 minute wait. So always full but never much of an inconvenience to play.

Does classic also include classic spawn timers?

I remember vanilla being annoying AF when you had to kill some quest mob and it was on like a 20 minute spawn timer and there were like 50 people around also trying to kill it.

they have dynamic respawns which i think needs to be scaled back. if i'm in a tight area like a keep that i'm trying to progress into, the mobs keep respawning on top of me, it's real dumb

Smite, Mind Flay, Mind Blast, SW: Pain, Renew, wand

PW:Shield, Mind Flayx3, Mind Blast, wand

Wait a few seconds between battles for spirit tap. If you aren't leveling with shadow, you're 100% doing it wrong. You don't need holy or discipline talents before the game becomes all about running instances at 50+. My server's been up for two fewer days than everyone else's and I've gotten to level 35 np. Only run Stockades once.

This is terrible for mana efficiency. Shield is only for emergency damage stoppages and for ensuring you get spells off that can get interrupted. And you need more damage output from your initial burst. Nuke a couple times to open, finish with pain since it's an instant spell, and THEN wand. Wanding at the end, of course, is important to take advantage of the 5 second rule.

Ive been leveling a Troll Priest. Currently 21. All I do is SWP and wand. Over and over. Sometimes mind blast to make it a little quicker.

I am also levelling a priest, for the first time, lvl 17 now. I do Mind Blast, Shadow Word: Pain, then wand the rest of the way. It's surprisingly effective, the kills come pretty fast and there's 0 downtime between fights. I think back to my other characters and I feel like they killed mobs at about the same speed, or slower.

Wow, that's ridiculous. Highest level on my server is only 42. (Two days late start, and all the super progressive people got on the early servers, but still.)

I'm currently running third in the level race, at 38. Strangely, as a priest, I find myself behind another priest, the leader. There was a hunter keeping pace with him, but that person seems to have taken a break, so it's Priest (42), Mage (39), Me (38), Hunter (38). This is all assuming there isn't a higher level horde, because hell if I know what's going on over there. Highest horde I've seen is 32.

Logged out at level 19 tonight. Starting to really get enthralled with the game. Leveling up professions, having more buttons to push, running dungeons, etc. It's great. And I haven't even ventured into contested territory yet!

This is when the game really gets good. The classic 5 man dungeons are all a wonderful experience.

I've had to switch over to my alliance alt on Rattlegore because Grobb's queue is too much for me. I'm up to like 15 hours /played, which is a lot for me in such a short amount of time *these days*. When this game first came out I had a 17 hour session on the first weekend. the glory days~

I do prefer horde content a good bit more but I haven't done much alliance content beyond level 20, so, maybe this will keep me going.

Up to level 25, ran WC several times and just did my first SFK run last night.

I'm finding that dungeons still don't require a dedicated tank/healer spec yet. My SFK run we had a level 23 enhancement shaman tanking and a level 24 elemental shaman healing.

a shaman tanking is pretty funny, not sure if that's usual. warriors definitely just tank in arms spec while healers are shadow spec or some shit though, that's definitely normal

the ddosing this weekend was unbearable, and super frustrating considering i couldnt play much last week while my friends all dashed ahead and wanted to catch up this weekend

...that said i'm still 41 after being 33 six days ago

Same thing happened in WC. Ran it with a group that just had two shamans.

I mean enhancement does have increased block chance as an early talent, and rockbiter weapon generates increased threat. Plus being able to have both stoneskin and strength of earth down. As long as your dps is average or better, and people know how to play, it's pretty simple.

I'm just curious how high level that stays true.

Pretty much every 5-man in vanilla you could do in the wrong spec. I definitely tanked DM in Arms.

my friends I'm playing with got ahead and got to level 55-57 and wanted to do a FULL BLACKROCK DEPTHS FIVE HOUR CLEAR

They told me to get to minimum level 53 if I wanted to be allowed in, since Thaurissianis like level 59 so I can't be too far below

When they finally started the run I was level 49.... but they had 4 and didn't want to bring a rando who might not stay the full five hours.... so they brought me anyway! I handed in some quests before heading over and dinged 50. It was a dungeon crawling blast to go through the whole thing and kill every single boss and pack.

I got enough exp to level to 51 while I was in there too. End of dungeon was super rough for me though lol. For most of it though my Blizzard was effective and did a lot of very useful slowing

I'm 52 now but unfortunately I'm gonna quit for a week, as much as I want to push for 60 I have a major exam next thursday and I can't really distract myself with this anymore ;_;

On my priest, so far, I've been balancing Intellect versus Spirit. But today I decided look into the math behind it...and am surprised at the results.

Apparently, for a priest, 1 intellect = 15 mana. Simple enough. (Also, it increases crit slightly, I'll ignore this).

And, for a priest, 1 spirit increases your mana regen rate by 0.25 every 2 seconds, as long as you haven't casted a spell in the last 5 seconds. (You gain mana every 2 seconds).

So we'll say 1 spirit = 0.125 every second.

But, I've got the "Meditation" talent, which means I do keep 15% of my mana regen, if I've casted a spell in the last 5 seconds.

So, right after casting a spell, 1 spirit = 0.01875 every second.

...

So let's think about a 2-minute hard fight in a dungeon. I figure 20% of the time during the fight I'm getting full regen, and 80% of the time I'm getting meditation regen.

* 1 intellect = 15 extra mana for the fight.
* 1 spirit = 120 * (20% * 0.125 + 80% * 0.01875) = 4.8 extra mana for the fight.

So the 1 intellect is much better!

...

OK how about a 2-minute easy fight in a dungeon. I figure 60% of the time during the fight, I'm getting full regen, and 40% of the time during the fight, I'm getting meditation regen.

* 1 intellect = 15 extra mana for the fight.
* 1 spirit = 120 * (60% * 0.125 + 40% * 0.01875) = 9.9 extra mana for the fight.

1 intellect is still much better!

I didn't even take into account that, if my mana bar ever gets full during the fight, I don't regen any mana for a few seconds, so that makes spirit even worse.

And I didn't even take into account that, intellect gives bonus to healing crits!!

I made a spreadsheet. Even in a THREE MINUTE EASY FIGHT, 1 spirit only ends up giving me 14.9 extra mana for the fight. Still not enough.

Now, as far as 5-man dungeons go, I can't recall ever fighting anything for more than like 3 minutes. I could be wrong.

Raids, yeah I can certainly remember fights taking 10-20 minutes. In that case, I'm sure the spirit rockets ahead.

But as far as 5-mans go, it seems like favoring intellect is much better. And yet, when I read guides, people seem to recommend Spirit. Wha?? I guess they're just talking about raids. But they should probably say so.
