Close first match. If Chloe was actual nekomata master rather than wannabe nekomata I'd have probably flipped.

It's unfortunate that Revenger landed in a spot where it keeps drawing some of my overall favourites in the contest, because I'm realising now that I'd take it over a lot of other things, including both songs in the first match today, but it hasn't really been close enough to its top-tier gust plus endymion opponents for me to really tell until now.

MATCH 1

Chloe's a fantastic song and I really want to see it retire. Definitely the best song here today, so I also really want it to go onto the finals at this point as well. Life Will Change is also a very good song, but my preference for Chloe is very strong, so while Life Will Change would be a good retiree, I'd be pretty disappointed if Chloe lost here.

MATCH 2

Pretty close match here. I feel like my opinion of DNF and Revenger fluctuate every time I listen to them, and considering that I like both songs a lot and almost the same amount, this makes it a bit difficult to judge which one I like more. Right now, I'm actually in the mood for DNF so I'm enjoying it a bit more than I did in past rounds, but the same applies to Revenger as well. I think by default, I'd rank Revenger slightly higher than DNF and I'm currently liking Revenger more too, so it earns my vote here. Both songs would be good retirees though!

Chloe is pretty stereotypical "world music" that this community seems to really like. It's serviceable and pleasant, but I don't remember anything about it by the end. Even halfway through I've forgotten what's come before. Life Will Change is energetic in-your-face attitude infusion and it's infectious and I love it. That opening guitar riff sets the tone perfectly.

I have basically nothing to say about DNF. It's fine enough, but it goes on too long and too much of it feels unnecessary. (Kind of ironic that one of the longest songs in the contest is one of the least impactful when it comes to comments.) This is probably a consequence of it being assembled from several different in-game songs. I'd imagine it's more effective in the actual game. Revenger, as I said last round, has this amazing part with a catchy, swelling chorus, and then virtually nothing in between. But the amazing part is amazing enough that it's fine.

Each match has one song I'd really like to retire and one song I wouldn't. Funny how that goes.

Better-day-than-yesterday day.

Match 1:

Chloe seems too weak to be here. Life Will Change is not spectacular, but it's solidly good and I like the beat it has going. It's maybe the best Persona 5 track (although I'm pretty rusty in terms of how good I remember Rivers in the Desert and You never see in comiiiin' to be), but even then, not by much. LWC only got lucky this year, I guess, to pave itself the way to retirement.

Match 2:

I had to resist the urge to listen to Revenger first, but I was also forgetting how good DNF actually was; I guess that after TIGAR went out I underestimated how good DNF was as a standalone song, and not in comparison. After all, here's a fun fact: Last contest we only had Sayonara as a Blue Reflection representative (iirc), so taking into account that I had never listened to a Blue Reflection song before, I had the idea that it was pretty mediocre (Sayonara was pretty 'meh' for me); however, TIGAR and DNF have proven to be, if maybe somewhat random (and maybe even forgettable partially because of it), also pretty awesome. I don't like random music in general (that's why I generally don't like improvisations), but this ones are kind of the exception.

As far as Revenger goes, it can't truly compete until 0:41 kicks in. It's quite good after that, but it has too many ups and downs to be greater.

good think you typed "iirc" because you did not remember correctly lol. We also had Albireo Lake and OVERDOSE!!! (so actually more Blue Reflection representation last year than this year!)

Hmm! Might have to check those out again, but yeah, now that you mention OVERDOSE, I have some vague memories about it. Maybe this year's Blue Reflection songs sticked more with me than last year's did.
