warning, this is fucked up. but it shows a guy on a boat scaring a stowaway raccoon until it flees into the water. except this was 20 miles out from shore. he thought it was funny and filmed it. but now people hate this man. and he might lose his business. people are trashing the hell out of him once they found out his real name and job. hopefully his life is ruined over this

the raccoon was innocent. the man is evil and disgusting and I fucking hate him.

hard to tell. either he barely did anything and the raccoon fell off by itself, or if you look/listen closely, it almost seems like he used the pole thing he had to push it off. you can hear it hit the side of the boat, and you see the raccoon maneuvering carefully one second, and then butt falling off the next second, with the sound in the middle (and the camera also doing a big swing at the same moment). hard to tell though. (around 24 seconds into the video).

The stupidest thing he did was record it and upload it. It sucks. It was, in all likelihood, a dick move. But if it were me, fuck that raccoon, I dont know if its sick or not and Im not willing to hang out with it for a 20 mile journey back to shore on the off chance it bites me and now I have to get cautionary rabies shots.

Cacciato is 100% correct. The guy is stupid for filming and uploading it, but raccoons carry disease and I wouldn't want that thing on my boat, either. It's a fucking rodent. It's not endangered. It's not special. Raccoons drown in nature, it happens. That this one may have drowned as a result of this man's actions can be countered with the fact that if that raccoon had chosen any of hundreds of other places to bunker down it would likely still be alive today. But that raccoon decided to try to chill in that dude's boat. How is that the guy's fault? Definitely not something to ruin a man's life over.

Honestly I can more or less understand it. Wild animals are dangerous and raccoons aren't exactly endangered while being known for carrying disease. But filming it and putting it on the internet? Fucking stupid. Like astronomically stupid. Being happy about it like he just did something super awesome? Fucked up.

Never batted an eye when my dad killed snakes on his boat. Not really going to bat an eye at this, the only thing that disturbs me is how the guy taking the video seemed proud of himself for what he did.

Poor little raccoon. I'm the type that would have taken the boat back to shore to try to get it back to land. Or, if it wasn't scared, give it some food and have it chill until we got back to land...

Though, I wonder why he didn't find it earlier. I feel like checking the whole boat before setting sail would also be a good idea...

Well, there we go. Dr Zikten of the uneducated-bumfuck-nowhere-Alaska veterinary clinic knew that it didnt have rabies or any other illness. Hell, from a video he managed to determine that it wasnt rabid without showing outward conditions. No, you're just being hysterical and screaming that you don't care at anyone who disagrees with you. Like it or not, raccoons are major pests and while the methodology of getting rid of it is somewhat scummy, it's really no worse than someone killing a rat.

I have four cats, one rescued from a home where it was neglected and one that I literally took in off the streets when his legs were so injured that he couldn't walk to feed himself. I care deeply about animals. Doesn't mean raccoons aren't pests and that you aren't being a petulant child for hoping someone's life gets ruined because he killed one. I've killed multiple raccoons, do you hope my life gets ruined too/

I can't bring myself to kill anything. not even bugs, but that does not excuse what that man did. say I pretend like he had to kill it. why didn't he bash it's head in with an oar? that would have been more merciful than what he did. that was not about disposing of a pest. it was sadism

and him filming it proves he thought the whole thing was amusing and fun

if he hadn't filmed it, and just quietly did it and felt bad, that would be a more normal reaction.

Not everyone is going to be capable of brutally smashing an animal's head in. I've shot three or four raccoons on my property, I don't think beating one to death with a stick is something I would really be capable of. Pushing it off a boat is a lot easier.

Also, it probably doesn't do you much good to admit that you basically can't act like an adult and remove a pest then call people who do so sadists.

Drowning is possibly the WORST way you can die, period. it's very violent and agonizing. many people don't realize that. some people think it's a peaceful way to go. it's not. not even close
