This is not my ideal match in the slightest. Machine Passage is kind of weird but feels like it goes through the motions of being "sprinkles variety pack." On the other hand, it's kind of funny that I gave a 3.5 to a song I still wound up voting for. Twice. Recollections feels like it has elements I would normally like, but I've heard it at least three times now and I still can't recall a single thing about it. I don't anticipate that changing any time soon.

Loud guitar is not the way to my heart, Douwa Kairou. This song essentially does almost nothing I like, though the backing piano is kind of pretty. A Contract Has Expired takes another musical trope I dislike - muddy audio production - and mixes it with an uninspiring presentation and dull, droning guitar. It's a pity one of these has to move on.

Fun fact: these past eight songs were ranked in almost descending order (you've just got to flip Mount Vesuvius and Ethereal Dance).

Kirby Air Ride - Machine Passage, but it's a very difficult choice. I'll need to re-listen before today ends. It's a matter of cool use of sounds and phrygian vs. the awesome 3/8+3/8+2/4 (aka 5/4) meter.

MATCH 1

I like the dark, mysterious feel of Machine Passage, but Recollections is such a jam! I have a pretty clear preference for Recollections here. The accordion and piano in Recollections is really nice and feel-good. It also has kind of a bouncy feel to it as well that I like--maybe because of that 5/4 time?

MATCH 2

This match is much closer for me than the first one. In fact, it's actually really close. Bright and happy rock versus dark, slightly cheesy rock where both of these songs are ones that I like quite a bit. I think I have a slight preference for Douwa Kairou over Your Contract Has Expired, though. It's not for any preference for one type of sound over the other (in other words, I don't have any general preference for darker music over happier music or vice-versa). If I had to put it into words, I'd say it's something along the lines of me liking the instrumentation more in Douwa Kairou. Beyond that, though, I couldn't really express my reasoning in words even though I want to. It's just another one of those things where I can feel it internally. I guess that's not exactly "reasoning," by definition, but whatever.

Relatively strong day. Quality showing.

Match 1:

As I said last round, this song is surprisingly dark for a Kirby game, but it's phenomenal nonetheless. Recollections is cool with the accordion and fast jazz, but Machine Passage is just better.

Match 2:

Closer match. Both songs rock (pun accidentaly intended), but Douwa offers more within less.
