(It's probably not clear from this batch of writeup, but the "vote history" is my own personal voting history, not the songs' contest records.) Match 1: 5. Baldr Heart - Innocence and Emptiness 9.5 over Snake Eater vs. 17. Blue Reflection - TIGAR (ALL PHASE MIX) 7.5 over The Awe-Inspiring Brave Figure Two solid songs here that do similar things. I adore Innocence and Emptiness (I supported it in nominations) for its climactic build - the last part, which it builds perfectly to, is so satisfying. TIGAR likewise is a song that builds and goes through different phases- the last bit, around 4:50, is so good - but its progression isn't as satisfying to me as Innocence and Emptiness's. I love music that progresses naturally, and while I won't mind terribly if TIGAR wins, I have a clear preference for I&E, Inc. Match 2: 29. Galaxy Fight - Ethereal Dance 6.5 over Grosstown Traffic vs. 26. DuckTales Remastered - Mount Vesuvius 7 over In Circles Ethereal Dance is fun, but I wish there was more meat to the instrumental backing. Long sections of this already long song feel hollow and insubstantial, with little to offer besides goofy rapping. Said goofy rapping is quite fun, sure, but I come away from Ethereal Dance wanting something more. Mount Vesuvius (which I already wrote about in my ranking topic) is goofy but in a different way, like silly Saturday morning cartoon with a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch goofy (GAWRSH). It's fun too, and charming. These songs are close enough in my personal taste barometer (which also predicts the weather) that I won't be too upset if Mount Vesuvius. Match 1: -I'm still wondering if Innocence and Emptiness really was in the last contest, because it sounds sooo much different from what I would remember from it if it was. Actually, it even sounds kind of different to me than in the last round(s), but that's partially because I end up forgetting this particular song afterwards. The only thing that sounds kind of familiar is from like 3 minutes in and what it comes afterwards. Speaking of which, it takes an awful lot of time to truly get interesting. -TIGAR is probably my favorite song in the contest despite me thinking, ironically, that it's a bit too aggressive. Match 2: The song that reminds me an awful lot of that song used both in DDR (IIRC), Star Ocean 3 and Persona 3 --but better (maybe)-- vs. a pretty solid song from a franchise I didn't expect much. If I liked the rest of Innocence and Emptiness as much as I do 4:11 and onward, I don't know whether or not I'd favor it over TIGAR. Like I said, it would be very close if that was the case, but sadly it's not. Even with DNF and my less favorable opinion of the song due to the fact that I think it too has too slow of a start for me, I still think I'd vote against Innocence and Emptiness if it was up against DNF. MATCH 2 Mount Vesuvius seems to be a pretty strong song around here. If my memory serves me right, it's had some decent runs in prior contests, even making it to the retirement match before. I'm honestly expecting it to win this match and possibly win its retirement match this year as well, but that's most likely me being a bit pessimistic, since I don't fully have a grasp on what "Board 8 taste" is. Anyway, as I've said the previous time it was up, I like Jake Kaufman a lot, but this specific song isn't really my thing. It's not bad, and would probably be good background music or something, but wouldn't be a song that would cross my mind if I was thinking of video game music to listen to. Ethereal Dance, on the other hand, does grab my interest a lot more. I think I may be losing some of the initial hype I had about it, but I still like it and I can certainly say that I like it more than Mount Vesuvius so Ethereal Dance gets my vote here.
