Honestly, it's hard to tell until a few years after the fact. We know what actions he took, but what are the end results of that? Not everything is an instant impact thing.

I still have a job, my life is good, I'm happy, so there's not much of a reason for me to flip out. People get wayyyy too irrate for something that have no control over and especially for something that they will literally do nothing about but bitch online for the next 2 to 6 years. Oh, and yes. I know he met with Kim Jong Un. And that's pretty much all I know.

Surprisingly little of substance, given that he has as uncontested control of government as anyone is likely to get these days.

-His biggest piece of legislation was the tax cut, that temporarily cut taxes for the middle class and permanently cut taxes for the rich and businesses, at the cost of adding trillions to the deficit (of note: Trump is, for some reason, still running deficits in an era of soaring economic growth, which is absolutely unbelievably bad economics).

-He has nominated two Supreme Court Justices (notably the latest one gets the dubious distinction of being the only Supreme Court Judge ever nominated by a president who lost the popular vote, then confirmed by senators who represent less than 50% of the US population, and whose confirmation was opposed by a majority of voters).

-He has launched a regulatory cutback spree, including significant cuts to regulation on consumer protection, environmental regulation, and educational regulations

-Launched an immigration crackdown, to pretty mixed reception

-Has launched a series of trade wars, mostly against US allies (bizarrely).

....that's pretty much the highlights, such as they are.

It's nothing more than excessive taxes and regulations by bureaucrats, in order to stifle the free markets, in order for them to enact control over it.

Do you honestly believe that rich men and women in suits could legislate pollution away, especially based off of speculative science that has not been proven, but also does absolutely nothing about the most polluting countries in the world (Russia, China, and India)? It's Virtue Signalling at its worst.

Remember, back in the 70's, we were expected to go into an Ice Age by 2000, before it changed to Global Warming, where the narrative said that the Polar Ice Caps would be melted in 12 years (never mind the fact that it would take tens of thousands of years to do so), all because the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere reportedly went up from 400 parts per million to 450 parts per million (and that is hundred, NOT hundred-thousand).

It is nothing more than an economic power-grab by government, all with the false pretense of "saving the planet". If they wanted to actually do something, why not go after Russia, India, and China?

So, let me explain nuclear deterrence theory, the same theory that has been going on since the 50s. Because nobody has sufficient ability to defend from a large number of nukes, this means that the person who strikes first is more likely to win a nuclear war. By hitting the locations of the nuclear silos (which really aren't that hard to find, especially now), you cripple the enemy's ability to retaliate with their own nukes, ICBs can hit in around 30 minutes or so, and that's from when they're launched. So then you have the fact that America has more nukes than NK, so NK is more likely to attack because it means they are more likely to win a nuclear war.
This is why both sides having a bunch of nukes, paradoxically, is safer for both sides. This is the Mutually Assured Destruction policy put in place by Nixon.

And I'll see proof when I see proof with NK, not talk. They do a lot of talking.

Dont forget the first Supreme Court nominee wasnt supposed to be his and only happened because congress refused to do their duly appointed jobs of even remotely attempting to confirm a sitting presidents nomination.

True, but also ultimately not Trump's fault (and not even really the Senate's fault - enough Republicans were willing to vote for Garland that he would have been confirmed had McConnell allowed a vote on it, and if we're going to start talking about the shitty things *that* asshole has done, there's a good chance I'll wind up with a 40,000 word post and little bloody stumps where my fingers used to be).

TheWorstPoster posted...
Even though the rule that a President cannot nominate a Supreme Court Justice during his last year of his term was created by the Democratic Party?

Conservatives always love bringing this up yet it's painfully apparent none of them actually read the speech they excised this little nugget from, or else it might dawn on them that:
a) Joe Biden put this forward, not the Democrat Party, and it never saw widespread adoption by the Democrats, nevermind being made official policy
b) Biden didn't say that then-President Bush shouldn't nominate a Supreme Court Justice; he said he should nominate a moderate acceptable to the opposition (then Democrats) in the senate. Which you might recognize as being exactly what Obama did.
c) All of this ignores that Presidents of both parties have nominated - and had confirmed - Supreme Court justices during an election year and nobody seemed to have a problem with it.

Seriously, the blather that McConnell and the conservative talking heads put forward to justify the robbery of Obama's nomination was utter horseshit and everyone with even half a brain knows it.

TheWorstPoster posted...
First, that was a policy which Obama started.

Weird how you give Obama credit for negative things, but not for positive things like the explosive economic growth that Trump is busy crowing about.

Moving on...

Based on false accusations that has been sit on for over 30 years, when the accuser could not even remember any details, and every single witness denied it, and every FBI investigation turned up absolutely no incriminating evidence?

I always ask conservatives for their proof that the allegations were false and that Ford perjured herself and no one ever has any. It seems that all this "innocent until proven guilty" nonsense is only for people they like.

As for not remembering details, is that surprising?

Where were you when you heard about the September 11th attacks? What were you doing? If you were born in 1991 or earlier, I can almost guarantee you could reply in significant detail. What did you have for dinner that night? When exactly did you first hear about Al Qaeda being responsible? Those questions you probably can't answer because that's how memory works - you remember the visceral details and forget the rest.

Even though North Korea is in a vulnerable position right now, and Kim is fearing for his life since China is getting tired of him, and he knows he has nothing to benefit from nuclear war

Kim has nothing to benefit from nuclear war, but everything to benefit from nuclear arms.

Seriously, this is not difficult to figure out. Kim does not want to be deposed - not by his enemies, not by his allies, not by his generals, and not by his own people. What's his most reliable way to securing his own future? Making sure that he is too risky to take out - and that's exactly what nuclear arms brings to the table. He'll never win a conventional war with one of the world, but he can ensure that if someone tries to take him out, he'll take millions of innocent people out with him and ensure the cost of victory is so obscenely high no rational person would ever accept it.

The fact that China is getting tired of him is a sign that Kim is getting exactly what he wants. For a long time, North Korea was China's lapdog by dint of the fact that China had enormous influence over the regime and could (in theory) get rid of the Kims the instant they posed a serious problem. Now? Trying to depose Kim would spark a humanitarian crisis unlike any the world has ever seen before. And that's exactly how Kim wants it.

Kim would be an idiot to sign a nuclear arms pact with Trump. Iran did that with the last administration, complete with verifications that it was - by all accounts, even Trump's - living up to, yet the next administration unilaterally nixed the treaty for no particularly good reason. And so, Kim is doing the exact same thing North Korea has done with the last three administrations and counting - promise peace, make a largely symbolic show of giving up some token of their nuclear program, demand concessions, immediately renege on the bargain when they have what they want. Lo and behold, now that China is no longer enforcing sanctions on them, the pace of this "denuclearization" has slowed to a halt. Kim will continue to string this along for as long as he feels he can dupe Trump (probably quite a while, given how things look now) and then we'll be right back to square one.
