...I mean, that reeeeally sounds like "No Ridley" when he's saying stuff like "To make it work, it wouldn't be Ridley anymore," and "It'd break the entire game," or be "convoluted hocus-pocus."

A truly threatening presence that literally no one cares about or will almost ever see.

Those people that scoured Twitter and forums and such and created rankings based on how much characters were being talked about, how much people seemed to desire them or think they'd be in (based on phrases like "lock" vs. "less likely,"), and so on posted like, a top 50 and Simon wasn't in it.

Yeah that was a real WTF selection...especially since a Toon Shiek would basically be an entirely original character created just for Smash.

The video doesn't mention it, but most speculations was always that Toon Shiek was indeed Tetra and it was just a weird way to name her.

Black Shadow getting in would actually bug me. It would be the ultimate 'character gets in solely to give a series another character' thing. I've never seen a single person remotely care about Black Shadow.

Ganon should probably have a new moveset, but they're not going to give him one when they could be developing entirely new characters instead. He got screwed over a little due to being a Melee clone, which set future precedent for his character playstyle, but honestly I find current Ganon to be really fun to play so I don't mind even if I understand why others would.

Well, it wasn't exactly a reddit survey

Some people got together and scoured reddit, Twitter, and several forums to see how much characters were being desired/talked about/etc. and then made a top 50 based on that.

I mean I have a friend whose a die-hard F-Zero fan and his most wanted characters are Black Shadow or Samurai Goroh

I think there is a legitimate fanbase for them, and I really don't think there's anything wrong with including the main villain of a series that's been in Smash since 64

I'd say it's more 'character gets in to give old character a moveset that makes sense and not lose the old moveset'. Ganondorf is the only clone who isn't from the same series as the original character, so everyone wants an F-Zero character to be the new clone. I'm sure if say, Isaac was Marth's clone in Melee everyone would say give Isaac's moveset to Sigurd and give Isaac a new one.

Man, F-Zero legit has a ton of cool characters that would fit right in among the Smash roster. Black Shadow is fully deserving of being playable imo, especially with all these other villains getting in (and as Johnbobb pointed out, being a second rep for a series that's had only had one rep since Smash 64). And yeah, I know you were arguing against including a character for that reasoning, but I also find F-Zero's characters wacky, weird, and generally great.
