Dunno. Going to take a while to figure out most of them, especially since I don't want to go with multi-plats which I often preferred on the ps2. And, of course, it was the first (and only) gen to have a Mario platformer I didin't like.

The only guarantee is WWE: Day of Reckoning, which is my favorite wrestling game. The Raw campaign mode was built around the Evolution story arc, which I loved as an angle. The fighting system is really quick, especially compared to the usual sluggish system seen in other wrestling games. And, unlike the sequel, DOR1 doesn't have a fatigue system so the pacing is a lot faster. The only two kinda drawbacks are that the roster isn't bigger (and neither game had Hogan) and iirc they didn't add female character creation until the sequel.

Other than that... idk. I guess I enjoyed SSBM (not as much as SSB or SSBB) and it's exclusive. Hulk Ultimate Destruction was fun (although I'm not sure I could finish the final or next to final mission in time), although I might have liked it more on the ps2. One Piece: Grand Adventure was enjoyable (pretty sure I played it on the GC rather than the ps2). And I guess Twilight Princess was fun even if I didn't like it as much as other entries, especially since it had fewer dungeons.

The problem is I got into the GC right at the end of its lifespan and probably only own like 30 games, some of which I haven't played.

three that come to mind when I think of the gamecube

1. Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker (honestly worst official Zelda game in my opinion but still a great game)
2. Super Smash Bros. Melee
3. WWE wrestlemania XIX best US released wrestling game outside of the actual AKI Wrestling games. This is the one that should have gone forward instead of the Smackdown series.

1) Super Smash Bros Melee

Me and my friends pumped hundreds of hours into this game. It was my favorite game of all time up until Street Fighter IV came out, but its still my #2. Just love getting friends together and playing it.

2) Mario Superstar Baseball

While Im a baseball fan, I tend to think most baseball games are boring. This one is my favorite. So much fun with the various abilities of each character. I have one friend in particular who will come over and we will pick random teams, then have a best of 7 series with those teams. Also, while Bowser & DK are the big bashers in this, it feels really satisfying to hit a home run with the other characters.

3) Metroid Prime

I nearly went with Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door, but Prime barely eeks it out. The game has incredible graphics for its time, and I just love the little details (like being able to see Samus face inside the helmet after a bright explosion).

Zelda: The Wind Waker
My favorite 3D Zelda game. The enemies should probably do more damage (other than the first dungeon, that was about right for difficulty) and the end portion was disappointing, but the rest is just perfect. Even the much-hated ocean traveling isn't that bad since you get warps that put you within two map tiles of anywhere.

Baten Kaitos Origins
Huge improvement in the combat system from the first BK game and a better story overall (but the biggest plot twist fell short of the incredible...quite possibly best plot twist I've ever experienced of the first game). Love the interaction between the three characters, music is excellent, graphics and art style are beautiful....just a great RPG.

Smash Melee
Played a ton of it w/ my friends, still the best gameplay of all the Smash Bros. games to this day. It was only fun w/ items off and the game encourages "cheap" knockouts a bit too much, but overall gave tons of hours of enjoyment.

Some amazing stuff to choose from. If I had to pick three, I'd go with Melee (just an outstanding game and way ahead of its time), Phantasy Star Online (a bizarrely addicting MMO, despite the fact that it consisted of just eight dungeons, plus one more online), and Metroid Prime (a game that had no right to be good, yet somehow turned out to be fucking sensational).

Runners up are F-Zero GX (probably my favourite racing game of all time), Tales of Symphonia (GC didn't have a lot of RPGs, but the ones it did have were really good), and Baten Kaitos Origins (as above).

F-Zero GX (fun, intense racing challenge)
Skies of Arcadia: Legends (perhaps my favorite JRPG ever: great characters, and I like how the combat system encourages you to use special attacks often)
Sonic Heroes (I still think this game is tons of fun and unique. I would put Sonic Adventure 2: Battle above it, but I have SA2 on the Dreamcast.)

Metroid Prime awesome artistically and mechanically, just an overall wonderful experience from start to finish, and a brilliant transition to 3D, which is something Nintendo got right a surprising number of times

SSB: Melee mechanically the best SSB game I've played

PM: TTYD having just played a bit of it today, it's pretty good. not entirely sure it belongs in the top 3 or not though.

Runners up include:
MGS: Twin Snakes not sure it counts. had a great time playing it.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance enjoyed it a lot, but it's not really among the best games ever

Metroid Prime 2 some of it I really liked, but it felt too long, which is something I rarely say. I need to play it again more patiently some day. Sanctuary Fortress was amazing artistically.

F-Zero: GX probably the best F-Zero game, though the first is pretty amazing for its time as well.

sad thing is, that's almost all the games on the whole system that are worth playing... ok there's Wind Waker which was fun, but nothing special either. The Mario Kart was good, but it was just more Mario Kart.

I think this is really around the time that Nintendo completely lost their creative edge (not sure how to word it). Since then all they've been are gimmicks and rehashes. Their games are probably good, but they're spread so thin across too many platforms. It's not worth the effort to have that many systems. Give me a platform that can play all Nintendo games and I'll gladly buy it and the games, but the way things are now I may never play a new Nintendo game again.

(it's almost as if they have hired too much hardware development staff and not enough software development staff. or their management has decided that there's more profit in hardware than in software, though I wouldn't expect that to be true. they need to triple their software development and halve their hardware development.)

SSBM because it literally took me from "Fuck Nintendo, I am never supporting that company again" to being a Nintendo fanboy.
REMake because it got me interested in the RE series (although I was already a Silent Hill fan).
Pikman 2 because it is the first time I actually looked at a strategy game on consoles and thought "This is a lot of fun and actually playable". (Ok, technically it was the first game that did that, but 2 improved on it in every way so I am putting that one here).

if I wanted to play all of the nintendo games that I haven't played yet, I'd need to buy a Wii U, a Switch, and a 3DS (and I already own a Wii and sort of a DS). and the number of games I'd get for all that hardware would be minimal at best. it's not worth it.

(and I'd still need to buy the 4DS and Switch 2 or whatever they release next to stay up to date. I'm so done with consoles; with PC games I already have more games than I can play and I never need a new system.)

The WiiU isn't really being supported (and even support for the 3DS is diminishing) and, by that argument, you need to buy a ps1, ps2, ps3, psp, and Vita to play the full Sony library.

lol. it's unique and exquisitely artistic, it's not a gimmick. the Wii is a gimmick. the virtual boy is a gimmick. that MP is an "FPS" (which it is only in a strict and meaningless sense) is completely irrelevant to what's good about it.

Zeus posted...
Still guilty of being rehashes if you're complaining about rehashes.

even taking the term literally, a "rehash" is not simply another version of something, it's an unnecessary version of something. melee VS SSB1 is not a rehash, it's too different, they play nothing alike. Brawl on the other hand is basically the same as melee but worse. (I have no idea how similar TTYD is or isn't to PM1.)

regardless, what I'm really complaining about is not second versions of franchises, but rather having a lineup that consists almost exclusively of 4th-10th versions of franchises. (a rebuttal to this point could be that I will nevertheless happily play TES 6, Doom 5, etc.etc. the thing though is that on PC I have so much selection that I do get my favorite franchises returning for the umpteenth time, but I also get an endless stream of new and original concepts as well.)

Zeus posted...

yes, that is true (didn't you miss PS4?), and would be equally problematic if there were any such games I was interested in. (I suppose there is Bloodborne and Demon's Souls, but that's about it.)

Zeus posted...
Because you never spend anything on upgrading your PC for gaming?

I bought my PC something like 7 years ago and have upgraded the video card once for about $200-300.

but that's not really what I mean anyway. unless your computer is really behind, you aren't locked out of whole chunks of PC games, they just run worse. so you turn the graphics down lower. if you do upgrade, then yay, you get a performance boost to your existing games, you don't unlock whole libraries of them.
