From his ex Chloe Dykstra, she claims he was controlling and sexually abusive towards her when they were in a relationship years ago

https://medium.com/@skydart/rose-colored-glasses-6be0594970ca

I just personally dont think its fair to take one persons side over a personal relationship when the details were private. Im very wary of people being judged by the court of public opinion.

I think she thinks Im being a dick though because she is really empathizing with her over how difficult her life was during that period. I have no reason not to believe her claims but I also have no reason to accept them at face value either, especially since it is just one side of the story.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Can't say I'm surprised that Hardwick might be a dick IRL, but he doesn't seem to be the "sexually abusing" type.

All his big hosting gigs kind of make him put on a vanilla, professional face. I've seen him in a more candid interview and he made a ton of gross sex jokes, also heard his stand-up is like that. Not saying that necessarily makes for a bad person, but it certainly makes this all seem pretty unsurprising to me

Saw him live once. Was in the front row, he was.....extremely sexual, and also extremely aggressive to the people in the front row.

He did have pity on me and my wife at least and did not single us out, we obviously did not want that, and had no idea it could happen. I did feel bad for the other people in the first row though.

Doesn't mean he is that way in real life/with his SO etc, but yeah, I could see him possibly being that way based on his performance. His personality was WAY different then on the shows we had seen him in on TV etc.

Was a bit shocking, but fun over all (wouldn't have been so fun if he singled us out though).

I don't know anything about these two people but I really don't see any reason to speculate on it. That said, I believe these matters should be resolved through the law rather than the court of public opinion. I don't like seeing people be fired because of accusations.

"Resolved through the law" isn't really a fair attitude towards victims. Most of the time you have things past the statute of limitations or beyond the point when they could have any evidence, or in this case you have accusations that don't sound technically criminal, but still bad.

The punishment of court of public opinion is different than the law's punishment. You don't get thrown in jail when you lose a TV show. Losing a TV show sucks but you hope their career can recover if they were totally innocent. There really isn't much you can do that can satisfy everyone.

Sorry dude, you've got years to bring up charges of sexual assault and what not. And if those other things aren't illegal, then it is what it is. People are capable of making their own decisions as to whether or not to leave a relationship. If what they're doing isn't illegal, what are we supposed to do?

That's very nearly as bad as going to prison except it requires absolutely no proof. That's awful. To be able to ruin a person's career because of an accusation is a terrible thing. Hence it should be handled through the law.

Don't act like losing a career isn't awful because for a lot of people, that's something they've worked their entire life for. This dude (among others) will never be able to work in the industry again. Hell, he'll likely be chased out of any position above being a cashier at McDonalds as soon as people start harassing his workplace.

If someone got me fired from my job, which I've worked a lot of hours and put in years of my life to achieve, I'd probably end up killing myself.

How many times, particularly in the past 10 months or so, has it been explained that women don't bring these accusations up immediately because they're afraid of retaliation and damage to their career, and the idea of false accusations is way overblown? Even years later they are also putting their own careers at risk.

It's not cool to have careers ruined for false accusations but we need to make room for the legitimate ones too. I don't have a good answer for what we can do about it. Legal battles can take years and I don't really think it makes much sense to continue careers while waiting for those to go through. I don't even know if doing that is of much benefit to the accused, especially somebody like Chris Hardwick who does shows with live audiences and is bound to get heckled constantly.

Maybe she didn't even want to derail his career, but despite not naming him it's really impossible to point to this being anyone else.

I dunno I dont really pick up any vibes from that video

Theyre going after Wil Wheaton now on Twitter saying that he must have known about all of it and he is also to blame for staying silent. I dont know what to think. Of course victims should speak out and be able to have closure and get their personal power back, but I also dont like the mob mentality that forms in response to accusations. A lot of people just seem hungry for blood.

He immediately touched his face and tensed up when Weinstein was mentioned. When the next questions followed and were not about him and abuse he seemed relieved. That's the vibe I got

I think really at this time all this nonsense blowing up is a convenient distraction from the issues with the administration

Her article didn't name a person, it certainly seems to be Hardwick from the details. She has the right to speak up about abuse from an unnamed partner in an essay to explain how hard it is to leave an abusive relationship.

I feel bad for her. I really do hope people look for these signs when dating someone. For me, as soon as they start "making rules", I'm out. That's one of the things that WILL NOT happen in a relationship I am in. She sounds like she's doing her best to get better, which is good. Hope everything gets better for her. I've never been much of a fan of the whole "he-said, she-said" thing, though...
