Oh there have been quite a few regrettable purchases I've made. However, when I first saw this topic, one game immediately sprung up in my head. That game is this piece of crap.

I own quite a lot of Sega Genesis games including garbage like Wolverine: Adamantium Rage and I can safely say that Young Indiana Jones is the worst Genesis game I own by a country mile. What's wrong with this game? Oh let me count the ways.

1. Enemies that move far too fast for young Indy to dodge.
2. Horrible placement of said enemies. Actually, level structure as a whole is awful.
3. No post-damage invulnerability. Watch the health bar just drain away!
4. A nearly useless whip thanks to the mechanics behind it.
5. Very limited gun and grenade ammo.
6. Boring music and graphics (with the exception of the burning blimp at the title screen).

The day I bought that game (December 17th, 2015) would have been one of my worst video game hunting days I've ever had if it wasn't for one thing: I got complete copies of Sonic & Knuckles, X-Men 2: Clone Wars and Desert Strike for $2 each that same day (and Spider-Man: The Animated Series but that one isn't as good as the other three). Even so, buying Instruments of Chaos goes down as one of my biggest bonehead decisions as a gamer.

I've picked up a lot of awful games over the years, but most regrets are paying too much (release price) or getting the standard version instead of waiting for an enhanced (SF4, which was also open/new -- fuck you, Gamestop!) or GOTY edition (LBP, which I also stupidly paid full price for since GS included 3 outfits -- all things in the GOTY version which I could have got for $20-30 down the road)

General disappointments include:
-Spirit Camera (AR feature just didn't work well)

-Todd McFarlane's Monsters (didn't pay too much, but just an awful game)

-Endless Ocean 2 (barely touched, got bored quickly. I enjoyed the original, thought I'd like the second)

-Condemned 2: Bloodshot (one of my first ps3 games, thought I'd like it, but it just didn't play how I assumed)

-Dementium 2: The Ward (again, a horror game that didn't play very well. Some of the mechanics were lousy, the story was meh, and it just didn't look great.)

-Touch the Dead (Mediocre shooter, I think it was rails. I knew it had issues before buying it but paid too much for a game this lousy.)

-GTA 4 (More realistic physics, etc, robbed most of the fun. It's a good game in the technical sense, but it's where the franchise started to go in a direction I didn't like... thankfully the Saints Row franchise not only had the fun of the old GTAs but just got wackier as it went along)

FF X-2 (both times...though second time was a combo with FFX for the ps4...but didn't finish that either).
The Atari Jaguar System (loved Alien vs Predator on it...but one game was not worth it)
Crusader Kings II (bought to play with friends but they bailed on me)
Super Mario Odyssey (Sold it right away for $5 less then I paid for it..well after finishing the main story)

I found Rayman DS for $5 at a used bookstore one time. I played it for 30 minutes, and haven't touched it since. It was super clunky.

I've honestly had more regrettable trade-ins than purchases, but one that stands out in my mind the most is "Murakumo: Renegade Mech Pursuit". Still have the sneaking suspicion that its poor reception is why we don't have "Metal Wolf Chaos" on consoles and/or PC in the US today. >.>

Dragon Quest Heroes. I was all excited about it, not realizing it was nothing more than a Dynasty Warriors clone with a DQ skin. I gave it a fair shot but just couldnt get into it.

Left 4 Dead. Had an unenjoyable first game and never played another.
Metro: 2033/Last Night. As I found out with these games, I don't enjoy in-game time limits for exploring and getting things done.
Torchlight II. I rolled a melee class that had me bored after 4 hours. There's a chance I might revisit this game in the future and find enjoyment in another class.

I should qualify this....as your right.

The game itself was not bad, but...I bought the Switch for it.

I returned the switch and sold the game.

The game was fine, but I finished it in....think it was 2 days. There was after game content (supposedly a ton), but.....It was not good enough to warrent the expense.

I will buy the system and game again sometime in the future when they are much cheaper. The difficulty, to me, was lower then I think any previous Mario game, and I finished it faster because of that. I was dissapointed, so I returned the system (since no other games I wanted to play were coming out for along time) and sold the game.

Pokken is the only thing I really remember regretting in a loong time.

I'm not sure if I really have a lot of regrets buying games. I mean, some games aren't the best. But I feel that if I had even a little fun, it's fine... Usually. I wouldn't be happy if I paid an absurd amount of money and got shit. But the ones I don't like as much were pretty cheap(if not free). Or I got enough enjoyment out of it based on the price...

Loved the game, but it literally went down in price by $30 less then a week after I bought it. Also, Leisure Suit Larry Box Office Bust. I only payed $2.50 for it but man was that game bad. One of if not the worst game I have ever played.

but you can't use all the power ups that each games set gives you (no cape for mario world, etc.).

changing the graphics doesn't even change the physics.

that's probably the last game that I regret buying (besides maybe a few humble bundles).

Need for Speed Underground 2. It wasn't bad, but I remember it got old fast and eventually the only reason I would pop it into my PS2 was so that I could play the Burnout 3 demo that was on it.

If only I knew I would have loved it. It was like 2 dollars years ago when the DS was still a thing. A bit later I got D2 and later again I got a cart only of D1.
Now I'm trying to get a damn box. Or at least a manual. That doesn't cost over 10 dollars. I mean I want it but I ain't crazy
