I enjoyed citrus a lot in the beginning, but it turned out I was giving it too much credit by assuming it would actually explore a relationship between its two main characters. Instead the anime seemed content to wallow in increasingly contrived melodrama.

I just gotta say that Citrus does delve into their relationship and develops it a lot more, but it's all AFTER where the anime ended. Like pretty much right after is when it starts happening.

The melodrama however, never stops unfortunately.

I didn't want to include spoiler tags in those write-ups but my issue with citrus was it basically had the same plotline three times but it was more contrived each time. When Yuzu liked Mei but Mei's childhood friend was in the way, I was okay with that one. I was less okay when it was Mei maybe liking Yuzu but Yuzu's childhood friend was in the way. Then (after a random rejection just to keep the melodrama going) they might like each other but a series of contrived coincidences have them meet twins who are both in the way and by then I was just done. Three times was too much, they lost me and then I took a harsh look at earlier parts of the anime and its rank cratered.

I'd be okay with a second season redeeming it, though.

Why? It's impossible to judge what average is when you haven't seen every anime. It's easy to judge whether you think something is bad or good though.

100 is way to much. 10 works great.

10/10 is a masterpiece
9/10 is damn close, but wasn't quite there
8/10 is fantastic
7/10 is pretty good
6/10 is dece, held my interest, but not the best
5/10 is average. Didn't like it, didn't hate it
4/10 is below average, I didn't like it, but it's not the worst.
3/10 is pretty bad.
2/10 is one step above the worst.
1/10 is Sword Art Online and Tokyo Ghoul.

I've finished the first season of Himouto! Umaru-chan. I was worried during the first few episodes because Umaru's brattiness was getting on my nerves, but she toned it down just enough as the season progressed that the anime became pretty good. I still liked every other character more than her though, especially her three friends. Sylphinford was the best! I hope she shows up a lot more in the second season.

finished fate/apocrypha. I guess I gave most of my main thoughts earlier but overall it was just a boring use of the fate concept. characters mostly sucked, story was never interesting, and the fight scenes were mostly just dull generic fights. this series probably would have been a lot better if there weren't a million characters. it was just spread way too thin. I scored it a 4/10. I didn't feel like I was forcing myself through it since my attachment to the franchise still made it easy to watch but yeah.

anyway, decided to actually choose my next anime instead of randomizing and started watching a place further than the universe. it's great so far.

Seems to have good production values (the first trailer was clearly OP animation or the game opening or something), so I'm at least interested on a base level. Don't know anything about the game, didn't even realize it was released over here.

Shirase's haircut looks exactly like Mari's now, so I can't tell them apart. If only one of them had pink hair.

oh hey guess I finished the worst anime of Winter

Marchen Madchen really should've been a better show. I like the premise quite a bit, and the MC is solid, but it just keeps doing such weird things. Lynne was a really fun villain (and super hot), but then they just throw her off the rails in the last episode. The committees were all terrible and unbelievable. The fights started out fun, but then the animation just went totally off the rails and the show didn't even get its last two episodes. Bleh. Sad sad show.

After the Rain, on the other hand, had nothing going for it from start to finish. Hated every episode, and the main characters never stopped pissing me off. I could see this being good if the romance didn't exist, maybe - just a serious story of the lives of the people at the restaurant or something. Maybe then Akira wouldn't have been a huge asshole to all her friends, too. Kondo could've saved things by actually rejecting Akira too, but no, he never does. Just uses her as motivation to improve himself while keeping her hopes up. Some of the side characters are alright (Yui is just the cutest) but they don't get much screentime so they can't really save the show, sadly. This was a tough one to score. Hard to decide whether it's trash enough for a 1 or just bad enough for a 2/10.

Okay, everything but March is beated, and I don't feel like waiting until next week to do the rankings, so here they are without it. I'll update next week or something. Actually dropped everything I didn't like, so not much bitching in these. Shame.

6. Skilled Teaser Takagi-san
While I think the show started out strong, it unfortunately got extremely formulaic and predictable, which lead to the entire process of going through a full 24 minutes of sketches a bit dull. I'm honestly glad it ended at 12, since I doubt I would've liked this had it kept on going. But aside from that, it was pretty fun most of the time. Always managed to put a smile on my face even through the later episodes. Takagi is pretty funny, and Nishikata is fun as well. It did have a great ending though, where Nishikata finally manages to get back at Takagi, even though it was unintentional. Really cute story, but it's a shame the romance never actually went anywhere. They're a cute couple. The segments involving the three girls were awful though. Some of the worst comedy I've ever seen, and I'm glad they kinda got phased out near the end, relegated to maybe a minute tops of screentime, or just making minor appearances in the main skits.

5. The Ancient Magus' Bride
This one was always a bit overrated by the community to me, though I still enjoyed it. I agree a lot with Mac, in how the show's at it's best in the world-building phase. I did enjoy the final few episodes, however, mainly because Chise finally started being a decent character. The revelation of her past was a pretty beautiful moment. Still, I didn't really like any of the characters all that much. Elias and Chise were both alright by the end, but I would've liked their relationship to be more familial than romantic. In a way it was, but the undertones were always there. And I can't really sell the presentation short. Amazing art and animation with a killer soundtrack to boot.

4. After the Rain
This was great, though yeah, it does have a lot of flaws, mainly with Tachibana. Her development remains stagnant through the firs 11 episodes until it just decides to cut the crap and rush everything in the final episode. It's great that things get resolved, but it's rushed here despite the show laying tons of symbolism and red herrings throughout. I knew they'd have to either rush or leave things totally incomplete, and I certainly liked what they did better than the other option, but it's still disappointing. What drove the show for me, however, was the secondary lead, Kondou. His character is interesting, and they actually flesh him out. The relationship with Tachibana helps rekindle his youthful dreams, and he learns to stop wallowing in regret and return to doing what he loves, despite being older. It's great stuff to see, but it's unfortunate Tachibana got shafted at the same time. I am glad they decided not to have any actual romance. Tachibana's crush does develop into a date or two, but they end u super awkward, and Kondou ends up seeing her entirely as a friend to help. I enjoyed it, but we could've had something way better.

3. Mitsuboshi Colors
Second-most adorable show of the season! Mitsuboshi Colors has a simple concept played extremely well. It's just three little girls protecting the town from boredom, and it works fantastically. The humor is mostly good stuff, and has a nice mixture of funny dialogue, confused reactions, and sheer absurdity in the actions of the girls. My favorite character was actually the straight man, Yui. Her archetype is the goody-two-shoes girl meant to be keeping the mischievous ones in check, but what really sets her apart is just how bad she is at it. She'll talk about how things are bad ideas and how they shouldn't be doing stuff, but ultimately goes along with it anyway, and it's always adorable. I also thought pretty much every side character was great, especially Saitou. They all bounce so well off the girls, and i rarely makes for a dull episode. There are a few misses here and there, but it's mostly fun throughout

2. A Place Further Than the Universe
For a while I thought this show was pretty overrated. But then episode 12 hit me and I thought, okay, yeah, I think this show is pretty great.. I do still think it's a little overrated here, but I can't complain about people enjoying a show that's really good, because that's dumb. I guess the biggest "issue" is that I don't really like most of the characters on their own, rather, they're only memorable because they're in a group, but since they're always together, that hardly matters. It's a show that knows when to be funny, emotional, relaxing, etc. It's also damn good at ending an episode, holy shit. Every episode feels so complete on it's own, and it's crazy for a show to keep up such consistency. The aforementioned episode 12 made me cry, which is always a huge bonus. In short, Madhouse has done it again, those crazy bastards.

1. School Babysitters
I don't think any show in a while has had me as excited to watch every week as this one. It's an absolutely adorable show focusing on a dude working in a daycare. The kids are all great fun to watch, even the little shit, Taka. They work well together, but work really great when paired with the students and adults. My favorite character in the show, and of the entire season, was Inomata. She's the typical strict, studious girl with an icy personality, but has a soft spot for the children, despite her inabilities to converse with them well. One of the funniest parts is where she realizes she has a crush on Ryuuichi, starts avoiding him, and causes the kids to believe she doesn't like him, leading to an inadvertent confession. Of course, this is brushed off because Ryuuichi is dumb. It was also refreshing to see a love triangle blossom, but instead of drama happening, the two girls literally become best friends. The show knows what it's going for, which is an overload of cuteness, and some pretty solid humor. I don't think all the jokes hit, but every episode was fantastic overall. I like Devilman better, and possibly March if it ends on a good note, but this was an absolutely brilliant show, and I am happy to award it TELEVISED ANIME OF THE SEASON THAT BEGAN THIS YEAR.

KoiAme's problem was it teased the romance andnever went all the way and then awkwardly started to separate the duo by focusing on their own problems and pretend the first half of the show never existed until the last episode.
