Finished After the Rain
A few weeks ago I ranted a bit about this series. So, I do feel obligated to point out that the last couple of episodes did fix most of my issues with the series. It still happened too late to make this show into anything that really stood out, but it at least ended up noticeably better than it could have ended up. Anyway, finished Ancient Magus' Bride. Sad that it went downhill in the second half. My favorite thing about the show was all the worldbuilding and being introduced to new places and creatures and such. There was a lot of that in the first half, but not very much in the second half. Maybe the author gave up on it because of all the contradictions she was creating and wanted to just do whatever suited the drama from then on (remember early in the series where Elias was sad because he was going to die soon and Chise would far outlive him? lol)? Regardless, it was a bad decision. There were still good parts in the second half, but the show just got so much more incoherent. Director was pretty bad I guess (he also worked on Blood-C, so I suppose it shouldn't be that surprising...). Another thing I liked in the show was all the side characters. The series was pretty dang good at building up its extended cast (other than those to sorcerer guys who go to the auction later on. WTF was the point of those guys? They were just annoying). The villains mostly weren't on the same level as the good guys unfortunately, but what can you do.
Wasn't a fan of the romance between Chise and Elias either. Thankfully their relationship is compelling even without any romantic overtones, but it would've been much better if it was just a master/disciple thing throughout the series. No need to force a romance. Could even do a father/daughter sorta thing. Anime's pretty bad for making potentially interesting relationships into dumb romances in general I guess. Updated season ranking so far: 1. Devilman Crybaby 2. Laid Back Camp 3. Mitsuboshi Colors 4. Citrus 5. Slow Start 6. Ancient Magus' Bride 7. School Babysitters 8. Having seen a bunch of J and K dramas, that dumb romance flaw seems to apply to all of east asian media.

I dunno I enjoyed it all the way through, there are spots it gets weaker but the penultimate episodes are real neat. And I even enjoyed the ending.

Watching the OVAs might've made me like the rest of the show less too. It's crazy how much better the flashback in ep 22 is than those are. The later episodes had some good climactic action, but still lots of stuff that didn't make sense

I don't think Ancient Magus Bride was ever trying to be a logically consistent show.
On some level to me that's part of the appeal, because it makes the stuff that happens feel more like actual magic. They aren't miracles if there are rules that govern how they do and don't work, etc. In general I do agree the first half of the series was better than the second, but I also think the last 4-5 episodes were the strongest of the series. --- Congratulations to BK_Sheikah00, this year's guru to achieve contest enlightenment! ... You're......gonna get a lot of pushback for that I think. I feel you and honestly I'm ok with not having EVERYTHING explained or logic being 100% laid out for magic, if it's trying to just tell its story and I'm enjoying it. But not everyone is like that.
