Looks like the old one purged? Tagging whoever I can remembed posting towards the end of the last topic.

@MariaTaylor @SeabassDebeste @CeraSeptem @TheRock1525

I got into gym clothes Weds and Thurs but the girlfriend was too busy. Then we went to visit her friend in Gainesvilles Friday/Saturday so couldn't do the gym then (although we did walk 5m around a state park Saturday). So today was first day I was able to get back to the gym.

Only did a little upper body work but decided to actually try push myself somewhat running. Managed to do 5k in just a smidge over 30 mins (like 30:20 or something but that takes into account punching in stuff starting up the treadmill which takes like 20 seconds). Pretty happy with that. It's slower than what I thought I'd manage but also I didn't think I'd be able to mentally push myself to 5k on only the 3rd gym trip.

I think my plan going forward is to do 2-3 shorter runs then a 5k and see what that leads to. Unless I can convince myself to do 5k more frequently.

I'm so glad I switched from bike to elliptical. Yeah, it's miserable but I appreciate getting twice the workout in less time, and it's noticeable with the dropped weight since switching (down from 195 to 191).

went for a walk this morning to get some errands done, and it actually turned into a run on my return trip since I figured I may as well run while I was out.

planking progress has been going well. I've just been doing sets of three separate attempts at a time, and each day I add 5 seconds to the time per attempt (so I guess +15 second total). basically gradually increasing my threshold. I'll probably hit a wall eventually with this.

hold this stance for as long as possible. it starts to become difficult and painful surprisingly fast depending on your weight and fitness level. improves joint stability, core strength, and upper body strength. and lower body strength, come to think of it. pretty effective for an exercise that doesn't require any equipment or even much workout space.

oh, speaking of planks. i can barely squat anymore. i was trying to do 3 sets of 5 in ascending weight, and then when i got to my second set, i pulled something in my lower back, i think. it's becoming annoyingly common and i think it's a result of a weak core and over-arching. so i've started doing planks.

right now i just do 3 sets at 45-50 seconds once or twice a week.

For the longest time I couldn't figure out why my lower back was going to shit when I never had an issue with it until I stopped doing this. Granted it's still a couple months in from doing it and my lower back sint a hundred percent but it's better than it has been in a couple years.

Oh I was doing those last year, I had forgotten. I never think I'm doing them right cause I hold the position pretty easily and don't feel a ton of discomfort.

nope, i stopped that shit shortly after watching the seinfeld episode where george gets lower back issues due to his ginormous wallet, lmao

i think it's just due to bad squatting form or something. hadn't deadlifted over 225 in months...

Did 2 miles in 17:30 today. I made that so much harder than necessary on myself though. Ran the 1st mile in 7:30 to see how I felt. Felt good with myself and so planned on walking 0.5 miles and calling it a warm up. Then decided to myself 'Try push for 2 miles' so started running at like the 1.4m mark. At 1.75 miles I looked at the timer and thought 'I bet I can make 17:30' so pushed the speed up to 6 min mile pace to do it.

So yeah that last bit hurt but the plus point is I actually got the burning feeling in my lungs whilst doing it. Unlike most people I like that and it reminded me of when I used to run seriously so I'll probably push myself harder in future. Sucks that it takes me running at 10mph to get it though as a consistent 8mph would get me a 15min 2 mile but I don't get that feeling at 8.5 or below. Not sure about 8.5-10 as I jumped straight up from 8.5 to 10

That's the habit I'm trying to get myself in. If i can just get myself to run at least a mile a day (or equivalent cardio) it will be a lot harder for me to get lazy again

Honestly i mainly post the times and distance so I can keep track of my progress and how much I'm improving

Step count yesterday ended up with an absolutely insane 17,900. Puts me at ~57,000 on the week after five days. And that's exclusively walking.

Currently at 2500 for today. Want to get around 10K. Don't want to overdo it two days in a row or my legs are going to collapse.

2 miles in 16:51 today so lopped off a decent chunk of time. Also was able to do a full sprint finish at the end (well as fast as the treadmill goes anyway) and wasn't really tired when I finished either. So definitely feels like a sizeable improvement

What do people listen to when they work out? I was listening to Drakkengard 3 OST today and surprisingly the last song is actually pretty good for running as I'd change the speed with each tempo change in the song and that got me to stop watching the distance/time

2 miles in 19:01 today. Pretty annoyed at myself as I did the first mile in 7:08. Not sure if it was because I did weights first today (treadmills taken when I got there) or because I ate like 30 mins before going. Usually I run for a decent amount then walk at 4.3 for a but and then run again but when I went to run again (after more walking than normal) my stomach just felt bad.

fairly proud of my progress in wide-grip pullups, though in fairness I don't go all the way down. it probably doesn't translate that well to a higher number of chinups, though, since my technique has adapted so much.

Anyone have any recommendations for apps or websites to help with exercise? I was losing weight slowly with dieting and walking, but I fucked up my for again and I gained about 12 pounds in the past two weeks, which destroyed the progress I made over a few months. Want to start getting more serious about it and tackle weights, but I get overwhelmed by all the stuff I get through a standard search. Also worried about running, which is what I did to lose a ton of weight over the past few years, since my foot seems permanently fragile...

Step counts this week (approx.):
Sunday: 4500
Monday: 11,400
Tuesday: 12,800
Wednesday: 13,100
Thursday: 11,000

So I'm around 53,000 or so, not counting the 2300 I have so far today. Trying to shoot for 70,000 total but the weather is not cooperating. Today's forecast: 40ish all day, raining off and on, overcast, and steadily windy. Cool, blustery, and wet is not a conducive combination for exercise. I can deal with one easily but all three is just too much. Ugh.

I can't speak too much about weight loss since I've never really struggled with my weight. I'm sure Reddit is a good starting point.

When I started weight training I followed Starting Strength. Five barbell movements with the principle of increasing a little each time.

Hope this helps a bit.

Final step total last week was like 69,200. Close enough for me to consider it a victory, especially given this atrocious wintry weather. (At least it's not as bad as up north... at least it's not as bad...)

Goal this week is way lower because 1) this weather and 2) I took Thursday and Friday off because I need the rest. Even in good weather, I tend to only get 8,000 steps a day I take off. It's a routine thing when I go to work. It's part of my daily grind to walk at specific times of day provided the weather cooperates. That's why it's easy to get 10,000 steps - I get 2,000 + 2,500 + 3,000 steps at those three specific times. Getting the other 2,5000 just comes naturally (since there's another guaranteed 1,000 on top of those).

Meh... wish I could do that right now... </rant>
