I have no clue about the rhythm stuff, but re: Trails/Xanadu I'd count them separately like SMT/Persona though I admittedly have a conflict here because combining them would put me at 6. I also meant to comment on azuarc's meta question from before about doubles. I had the same thought before nominations when I was putting together my ideas. I think it's a valid interpretation, but my reasoning to use them boiled down to a few things: I think someone (Mac? Too lazy to go back) mentioned it, but I know personally speaking, when I look back at songs on the bubble, I usually work from the cutoff line down, so a double would increase its "visibility" so to speak for me and make it more likely I'd commit to it to push it over the top at the end. If I didn't double, maybe it gets lost in a bigger crowd a category down and never gets any support at all so my ability to push it higher up the bubble does nothing. Also it's ~just my style~. Finally, I AM THE META. ALL YOU THINK YOU KNOW ABOUT IT I SHALL REMAKE IN MY IMAGE. also still listening to stuff. I was actually shockingly current for most of the first two days. Then the playlist didn't get updated for a while and I got lazy so I'm doing some catchup. At 396 songs in on the playlist right now. Still, this is always the most agonizing part of noms for me. To a degree, it is, but understand that almost every rule we have is a direct response to someone adversely affecting a previous contest. In the case of the series rule, we got overwhelmed one year by Touhou fans who represented a very fervent minority of the voters. That was shortly after the game limit was imposed thanks to someone who managed to finagle an entire roster of Lunar Silver Star Story songs into the bracket. We also have a rule about song versions because we had a user who nominated about 12 variations of Bloody Tears in the same year. In every case, the rule isn't there because the host wants to impose. They're there to: a) keep the field somewhat diverse b) protect those IPs from being completely hated upon c) prevent users from becoming jaded toward the contest thanks to the antics of individuals In my three years as host, I haven't overseen any particular great risk to those threats. The closest we've come to that recently is Undertale, which had 9 entries in our first 128-song bracket. So I should consider myself fortunate to have taken over a stable and relatively troll-free project. But those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it, and I know it's only a matter of time before we have somebody wander in here who wants to nominate 20 songs from their favorite game or franchise because it's the best-est evar! With the recent remake, imagine if someone tried to nominate 20 Secret of Mana tracks. Now imagine if their efforts got 8+ songs from Seiken Densetsu into the bracket. How do you think that would go? (Hint: Secret of Mana may be my favorite game, but it has a lifetime record of 1-16 in VGMC.) When exactly you commit to your doubles is a matter of preference. I like to wait until late, unless there's something very near and dear to me. Yes, there comes a point when all the 1-vote songs just look kinda futile. When the cut-off is clearly 3 or above, you stop noticing those songs and focus on the 2+ tracks. But that point is definitely not in the opening days of noms.
