Libertarian is closest, but I consider myself more of a minimalist. I believe taxation is theft, if it's not funding one of these four things: education, infrastructure, defense, and health care. So true libertarians will disagree with me on that last point especially, but I believe if we ended foreign aid, the welfare state, corporate welfare, and the wars on terror/drugs, we could afford to fund the four priorities.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from.

I also think that churches receiving tax exemption should be audited and they need to prove no profit is being made beyond a fund for renovations, etc., with salary caps on the owners that keep pace with inflation. I don't mind a minister supporting his family reasonably if he provides a service to his followers and the community. For-profit religious organizations are exploitative and vile. The only reason they don't pay taxes stems from the amount of services they'd provide within their area. Many don't really do that anymore. They should be forced to or pay taxes so somebody else can fill the gap.

Well, considering I am a Democrat, I suppose in the most literal sense I do identify as one although I'm not particularly inclined towards either party on a more basic ideological level. For quizzes where the only results are Democrat or Republican with nothing in-between, I tend to rank just barely Democrat.

Well, if they're not registered with either party, it's not a cop-out. And keep in mind that not everybody here is even American so they wouldn't be eligible (well, unless their country has a party by that name)

If you live in another country, you vote for the option that's the equivalent for your country. And you can still identify with democratic or republican ideals without being officially registered with either party.

Those are cop-outs. Overlooking that the American Republican and Democratic parties don't necessarily translate into foreign equivalents, party affiliation is absolutely cut and dry-- You're either a member or you're not. If you're not registered, you're not a member. This isn't a question of conservative vs liberal ideals (and neither party is exactly conservative or liberal except in contrast to each other), it's a question of party membership.
