he can be kinda funny sometimes but he's nowhere near as funny as he thinks he is. he has occasionally made worthwhile and interesting posts but often times his demeanor is so bad that interacting with him is wholly unpleasant.

he mostly interacts with pretty dumb people which leads him to believe that he is very smart. truthfully, he's just like most people; he's got a lot of specialized knowledge about a few very specific things and his narrow focus in life has led him to believe that the things he knows are the most important things to know and therefore he is very smart in all the ways that matter. a predictable pattern of behavior mistaken for intelligence. he really may be the smartest person out of the select group of board 8 users who spend a lot of time arguing, but I can assure you they are a very dumb bunch as a whole. you could be at the top of the pack and still below average.

his ego is absolutely his worst attribute and he has developed an unhealthy system of engaging in disagreements that allows him to always run away from a debate while feeling like he won; exacerbating the issue even further as time passes.

I would say he's more tolerable now than he's been in the past but, then again, we've probably all matured a little bit here and there. well, actually, there's a few users who haven't really matured at all past middle school lines of thinking but I guess we'll save that for their own topics if those come up. I'll give credit where credit is due in this case... foolmo is definitely a step above those guys I'm thinking of.

I actually think he's become more negative and cynical in recent years, but I feel like mostly these days I just see him post in video game topics to bash games people like. Like his experience as a game designer has left him super jaded or something.

I also remember he gave me $10 on Paypal a long time ago so that was cool.

I'm always torn on my opinion of Foolmo. I want to give him a shot, but I think he is too cynical and detached from society to be someone with whom I would get along. He can be quite articulate if he chooses to be.

I used to go to a small anime board called animetheme a long time member slowly became jaded and cynical by the changing member base and the type of culture the place had formed.

Foolmo reminds me greatly of him

Foolmo is great and all together somewhat inspiring in a way. Hes always trying new things and has a natural talent for programming and debate.

Hes a little aloof though, which can make it fairly hard to judge his sincerity in basic any field.

a lot could be said, but I'll leave it at... he seems like the type of dude I would like a lot better in person. I think the "anonymous"/impersonal nature of the internet exacerbates some of his worst tendencies/traits. Overall one of the last few worthwhile posters on the board. Not a lot of people left here who are interesting or add anything of substance to the place.

Spoilers this post is more about me, but i've patiently waited for a time to mention this without having to go out of my way and this seems as good a chance as I'll get

One time I made a topic about workplace romances because I had a crush on a girl I worked with and was curious to hear people's experiences, good or bad, to better gauge my own situation

and as it went on and I described in more detail, people called me insane and etc. for considering making a move, mainly because she was in a 7 year relationship at the time

foolmo said, and I quote, "You will never get the girl. It is a foregone conclusion."

it was that week I closed the account turbopuns because after seeing how that topic played out, it was abundantly clear that I was just spinning my wheels here with no self growth or productivity going on. now obviously I came back eventually, but it was a very long and healthy break.

anyway we'll be celebrating 1 year in April

In conclusion foolmo is perfectly tolerable and occasionally even useful in specific circumstances. I'm sure he'd be fun to hang out with irl

I'm actually curious how that progressed. Do you mind elaborating on details turbopuns? Not trying to pry I'm just wanting to know how you approached that-- seems like on paper you had a lot of stuff stacked against you and while it's great it worked out I'd be interested to know what you did in your execution that allowed it to work, or if it was just that bad a 7 year relationship you usurped, or what.

Abridged version:

-her relationship was extremely unhealthy for many, many reasons

-we'd worked together very closely for over two years so there was a lot of shared experiences. Also her ex worked nights so she saw me like 6x as much over those two years

-I made a point to not overtly do or say anything to even remotely indicate that I had any romantic interest, for as long as possible. For several obvious reasons. Then eventually something happened where she and I actually had an emotional conflict (details are irrelevant) and when we talked through that, it just made sense to tell her everything.

The period of time after I told her and before she ended things with her ex (and a while after) was kind of awful and he did not handle it well. It kind of highlighted just how unhealthy the relationship had been.

So I don't remember the exact details of the topic-- as a timeline did you make that topic shortly after the emotional conflict, or did said conflict come some time later?

And what was the progression after that point but before the current relationship was officially ended? Did it basically just house of cards right there and became a foregone conclusion she was going to go with you once you opened up to her and it was just going through the motions of breaking it off? Or did she give some manner of like positive reaction but still vaguely ambiguous because it was not like "I FEEL THE SAME WAY~"-- and if so how long did that last before you knew what the deal was.

Again if I'm prying too much tell me-- I just think the story is interesting.
