I bought some books a few days ago, and got the free shipping option.

USPS did not deliver my books yesterday, citing an inability to access my apartment building
I email Amazon Customer Service at about 8 this morning. They say to call USPS, since it's a USPS issue.
I put the call off until after work, USPS says to call the local post office if it's not delivered today.
Immediately after the call (About 5 PM), I notify Amazon Customer Service that I've contacted USPS and have taken steps to resolve the issue.
About 75 minutes later, Amazon Customer Service gets back to me, saying that they looked into the matter and that my package quote "has been lost in transit by the carrier". They say they'll refund the items and that I should re-purchase them. They'll throw in free one day shipping to make up for it.
About an hour later (about 7:15 PM), I get notice that the refund goes through. Amazon's site also reflects this at this point
At about 8:15 PM I get notice through Amazon's app that this order had been delivered. I also get notice that a separate order (that I placed the same day) had been delivered.
At about 9:30 PM, I go check my mailbox, and the books I ordered are there, just as Amazon's app said.

So

FUCK AMAZON

Currently waiting to hear back on whether they can rescind the refund and let me keep my stuff

What books?

I had problems with school textbooks once, but it was the seller's problem rather than Amazon's. After looking at their page more carefully, I saw they had a lot of customer 1-star ratings with the same problems I did.

Some crappy English-Translated Light Novels

and Baccano, which is actually good

(According to the product pages, all of them were sold by "Amazon.com Services, Inc.", so I'm pretty sure any seller's problem here would be Amazon's own problem. But the biggest WTF here is that Amazon claimed USPS lost my package when they very clearly did not)

I'm almost certainly going to have to ship the books back unless they can null the refund or their customer service is actually that generous.

Doubly so since I went ahead and told them that I did, in fact, receive the books.

Specifically I bought Baccano Vol 6, Konosuba Vol 4 and Nekomonogatari (Black) (All of which were released in mid-December and I forgot to pre-order because I'm dumb)

I'm also collecting No Game No Life but volume 7 isn't getting released until like April IIRC so w/e

Those are the only four series I'm buying though

I liked NGNL's anime, but I feel like a good portion of my enjoyment was the visuals, so I'd probably not enjoy the LN of that as much.

I once had an order (admittedly not from Amazon) that never showed up so they sent it again. Then both packages wound up arriving eventually and when I asked what to do they said just to keep them because stuff reported as lost in shipping didn't actually cost them anything.

This.

Nothing you described actually sounds like Amazon's fault, either way. USPS gave them incorrect information and so they acted on it to give you what they thought was good customer service.

If USPS reported it lost, Amazon likely will just let you keep the money and the item.

That gives me hope!

Though even if that winds up being the case, fuck amazon for causing me unnecessary stress with this

I'd have been perfectly content to go deal with the local post office if it didn't come through today like the USPS guy said it would.

But Amazon's Customer Service rep decided he had to try to be a hero

This is pretty fair (Though when I called USPS and gave them my tracking number, they were pretty sure it would be delivered today, so I have no idea where the disconnect came from)

I'm about 95% venting here, since this was (and still is, until it gets resolved) really obnoxious to deal with.

I mean, hell, I had Amazon refund me money on an item that they knew was still coming to me just because Fed Ex screwed up and sent it to the wrong side of the country first. I still got the item, just a few days late, but they refunded me the entire purchase price for something that wasn't even their mistake.

Amazon is probably going to eat the loss as SEP said.

Hell a few years back I had a lost package that was said to have arrived that I couldn't find. They resent it, but I found it a few days later off the side of the porch. It got moved somehow >_>

See I can't even complain about this, since most orders I choose the free (5-8 day) shipping because I don't buy often enough to justify Prime. And then I get most of them (Including this one!) in 3-4 days anyways

I've had issues just like this and it's usually the carrier's fault. USPS "lost" one of my book packages too. I called them on day 2 and they assured me that it would be delivered that day or the next. It wasn't, so I went to Amazon that night and they just sent me the same book for free with one-day shipping. Of course, USPS then found and delivered the package and so I got the same book twice on day 4.

Good thing Amazon has free returns!

Already covered, but I'll pitch in my own "how is this Amazon's fault".

And then add that when I pre-ordered Breath of the Wild, I saw that it wasn't going to be delivered until 10 days after the release date. When I contacted them, they said they'd give it to me for $25. Minutes later, the same guy got back to me and said he bumped my package up in priority so I'll still get it day 1, and since he promised me a $25 price point, he'd leave it at that anyway, since I had to go through this whole process.

Best $25 release day game I've ever played. So if Amazon ever shorts me on anything ever again, I'll just call it even. Hasn't happened yet, nearly a year later.

um

what part of that first post is amazon's fault?

They're literally the only ones who gave any indication that usps lost my stuff. USPS themselves gave no indication of that when I called them just prior to Amazon claiming it. And dealing with their customer service has been so frustrating that I'd be inclined to doubt their reputation for being great if I didn't generally know better.

Also Amazon is making me pay for the books after I told them that I received the package, so screw all y'all that were saying I'd be getting free stuff.

I mean, you're the one that went to Amazon in the first place when you knew it was an issue with USPS (USPS cited being unable to deliver your package). Amazon did the best thing they could with the information USPS gave them (that the shipment was lost).

Think about this, now.

If the package was lost, and Amazon refunds it to you like they did, then that's a loss to them. Why would they lie about the package being lost just to... Lose money?

Being pretty unreasonable, here.

I went to Amazon because my order status on Amazon's own site told me to go to Amazon after the initial failure. If I had thought that bypassing Amazon was a good option here, I would've.

It started out as a (self-resolving) USPS issue.
Amazon turned it into an Amazon issue, took up most of my evening with their customer service run-around, and led me to want to vent about it after it was mostly cleaned up.

And can you not understand why I, at a time that I'm actually normally in bed for the night, would want to vent and get things off my chest?

The reason I went to Amazon a second time was solely to notify them that I was working with USPS on this, and that I'd be resolving it with them, since Amazon directed me to USPS to begin with. This was your mistake, though. They told you it was a USPS issue, so there was no longer a point to go to Amazon. Going to Amazon a second time just made them check in on it and that's when the miscommunication happened.

Like, had you just stopped after USPS, you would've been fine.

Hell, had you not contacted Amazon after the stuff had been delivered, you would've also been fine.

But I've worked with enough customer service systems to know that those guys (and their managers moreso) don't like leaving tickets open like that, so I figured Amazon was similar, and doing that would close it out and be done with it.
