I've wondered this before but I was skimming through some AAI1 stuff last night and it occurred to me again, but is Lang illiterate? Like, every time someone hands him a document, he asks Shih-na to read it for him. Or maybe it's just he can't read English/Japanese despite being able to speak it since he can supposedly read those scrolls with Lang Zi sayings on them. I was just going over E2-5. while i ususally like finale cases and they're among my favorites for each game, almost every single final cross exam felt too long to me. the only exceptions to me are 1-4 (obviously), 3-5 on replay, and e2-5.

i still don't think it's amazing, but it doesn't feel like a drag anymore. the first time i played through it was extra-annoying since i already knew the killer so it all felt redundant. on replay, i wasn't focused on the predictability of the plot, and the cross-examination felt, at the very least, logical. plus that AA3 testimony music is too good. worth it to hear that once more alone.

the characters (phoenix specifically, i guess) don't know in 3-5, though. compare 1-2 or 3-3 for example, where phoenix actively thinks "i'll see you in court."
the issue is more that i knew by the first investigation or trial, whenever it was stated that godot was missing. --- yet all sailors of all sorts are more or less capricious and unreliable - they live in the varying outer weather, and they inhale its fickleness ... Copied to Clipboard!

By the last part of the trial, Phoenix clearly knows. He spends the entire Maya cross-examination accusing Godot of being the killer.
plus why is Phoenix going to think "hmm Godot wasn't there the first day of the trial he must've been killing Misty Fey instead!" before the beginning of trial day 2 even though from the player's perspective it clearly means something? like I don't really get why this bothers you --- ... I find the end of 3-5 underwhelming as well but it's not because we know Godot is the killer, but because the whole thing is pointless. Godot likes Maya and doesn't actually want her to go to prison or evade justice himself; he just wants Phoenix to prove he's a Real Man or some similar nonsense. Godot's also the killer, but not the villain, so there's not much satisfying about proving he did it; the real climax of the case was proving to Dahlia she had failed and literally sending her to hell.
Phantom confrontation could be better in the specifics but I'm still a pretty big fan overall because Phantom's a compelling antagonist and is a great presence on the stand. Wish some of the specifics you were nailing him for were better but so it goes. Really the only final AA confrontation I'm 100% happy with is AAI2's, which is weird because it's one of my least favourite final cases overall. The confrontation is just perfect, though: a strong personality, high stakes, some great humour, and not too long. --- The RPG Duelling League: www.rpgdl.com An unparalleled source for RPG information and discussion ... E2-5 is one of my least favorite epic cases, too, but largely because the first half of the case isn't very good. The trial segment in particular is just flat out terrible. Once you get to the orphanage, it really picks up though.
But I think the end of 3-5 is supposed to be bittersweet. You're not supposed to feel good about putting Godot away. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
