Depends on how you look at it and what metrics are employed. However, I generally think it's less a matter of worse or better than it just different.

I think it's getting complacent, parents not guiding kids and schools doling out busy work rather than teaching. We have a generation of people with no idea which way is up so they're fighting to make lateral moves, sinking ever lower.

Im not going to delude myself into believing that somehow society is somehow getting worse.

Ancient times, countries hating each other with conquering other lands being the norm and rape and perverse laws, etc

Then still in the past 150 years, racism and unequal rights for minorities and women.

Society is really great right now

Well I'm sure if you were a person of color you would rather live in these days than say way back during slavery times or even in the 50s when most restaurants would bar black people at the door. If we are talking about comparing say 4 years ago to today, then its more subjective since that is such a short period of time.

depends on how you look at it. humans have always been shitty just way back when, we didn't have news or social media updating us on every horrible thing that happens. also population is increased so more shitty people and most crowded into densely populate cities, not a good combo.

This. The good old days were not very good. The world still has many, many problems, but overall, we are slowly getting better.

Pretty much every minority is doing great these days, which is good. White people are no longer in a position of as much control, which means they need to clean up their act and work harder.

That being said, I don't like what's happening in Europe. The migrants there have no respect and get handouts while the natives have to work to support their asses. I talked to an Austrian recently and he's very unhappy about the situation.

Short answer: Both.

The levels of depravity and the tools humanity has to exercise it have both increased.

At the same time, more things are in the open, so it is harder to get away with stuff.

In the near future I would imagine it will get either much worse, or much better for humans in general. Heaven or Hell, we will create our own.

Anyone who says "worse" doesn't know a thing about history... Some places in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle-East are cultural throwbacks to centuries ago and feature such wonderful examples of "diversity" as genocide and/or brutal, religiously-motivated punishments for things the rest of the world deems innocuous most of the time.

Used to be you'd be happy to make it to 40 years old. Now we have to have a wailing fit if our internet connection is slow for like, a minute.

Not to say I'm not every much a part of this. But at least people used to have a reason to bitch.

I don't mind people getting offended, just what they choose to be offended over is what makes me want to bash my head into a brick wall. people really need to learn its all about the context, not the specific words used. and then people getting bent out of shape and claiming racism, sexism or whatever else over something that clearly wasn't any of that at all, but they do some extreme reaching to make it seem that way.

Instead of answering what's being asked, a lot of people in this thread seem to be conflating humanity and society.

Worse. Too far to the left. The whole world is going nuts.

In comparison to 1917? Better by a longshot. I mean, the sheer amount of medical improvements alone...

In comparison to 2007? ****ing WORSE! I mean, we've got a lot more luxuries and the like, but now we have a generation of brats who are willing to decry Lincoln as being 'racist' yet can't even answer basic questions about history and are willing to accuse a white man accidentally bumping into a black woman of 'micro-aggressions' if not out-right racism.

Do you know why so many people think millenials don't work? Because work usually means having to do things like, well, work with other people. And when you work with other people you hear viewpoints you disagree with and get challenged on them and so-forth. At the end of the day, though, you have to either stare that sexist, racist, trans-phobic white man in the face and realize he's none of the first three and just a guy wanting a cheeseburger, or screech about it and likely get fired.
