Yeah in retrospect what a fucking nightmare.

Like, yeah there were some hits, but YEESH. Having my #1 show from the year can't carry 3 months.

Princess Principal was great throughout but man am I sowered by how it just fucking ended.

I didnt even pick it up. Like, I didnt even think the first season was that good. The show has almost no focus at all and when it does it does so in some of the most unsatisfying ways possible. Rei is not even the most interesting character in the show.

The first half of the season definitely had focus. It was a surreal drama about the coming-of-age of a boy suffering from depression brought about by stress and loneliness. It was working so well toward his redemption through finally doing away with the thing he dreaded most, but then it just stops doing that, and any progress that was being made stagnated while we saw it lose this focus. The reason why you probably think Rei isn't the most interesting character in the show is because they stopped working on him as a character. Once they began going into the lives of these professionals that are all super boring, Rei begins to lose his value as a main character, and all that he'd accomplished became irrelevant, as the story no longer covered his character. Maybe you also just think Kyouko is more interesting because the style of the show completely shifts to one you'd see in Monogatari for no real reason. Seriously, fuck Kyouko, and Shaft's obsession with trying to recreate Monogatari because they want everything to be that successful.

But yeah, Rei's probably not the most enjoyable character, but he's definitely who I'd say is the most interesting, because the show goes south the moment he stops being at the forefront.

And to go into more detail on Garo, taz, what do you think of the "camera" work during the action? I thought it was hype as fuck, but roomate thought it made the action ugly and unwatcheable.

I guess it'd be bad if you get motion sickness? I mean, it is a shaky cam technique used to make the animation look more fluid than it actually is, and it's utilized quite well imo.

Hmmmm, well that'd not the right answer.

It's tough because watching Samurai Flamenco is one of the greatest viewing experiences of my life. It moved me to tears! The reason for those tears wasn't traditional, of course.

But calling it a GOOD show...I mean, it really, what's the term....drops the gorilla?

I never got a scene that direct for NicoMaki! Just Nico freaking out when she thought she was getting NTR'd by Tsubasa.

Sorry if it's been brought up and I missed it, but anyone watch Just Because? Certainly a very distinct look and feel for SOL. A lot of expression, kind of a...messy uncanny valley, but no rotoscoping. It's really sticking with me.

A weak ago if you had told me I would like Garo just as much as I did then, but that it was still gonna end up in the bottom half of my list for the season, I'd have thought you were crazy.

I'm done judging any season before release other than through casual speculation. Almost every single one of my favs so far I didn't give a shit about. Who the hell was hyped for Just Because?? Just goes to show how pointless prerelease watch lists are.

Soma is way too low, but at least it's reached a fairly safe spot for the next few years.

Black Clover has been building up a ton of spectacular fights of late. There's not too much substance imo, but its non stop big time fights, so I think it could settle into bleach's level of popularity.
