Finished My Hero Academia S2.

Not a whole lot to say specifically but that was a really great show. Interestingly I actually like the arcs where the heroes fight each other through tests or whatever more than the arcs featuring actual villains, even though those should in principle be more tense. The Sports Festival Arc in particular was absolutely fantastic.

First episode of Recovery of an MMO Junkie was awesome. Funnest thing I've checked out so far this season. Ultra moe. More anime needs to star tall girls.

To be fair I was probably one of the largest examples of this, but thought the most recent season was pretty strong and a definite improvement over some other recent seasons. Second Season was still the peak for me, but I can definitely look at Owari 2 as a worthy end to the series.

I can at last say Owari 2 was pretty conclusive, and there were no obvious threads left hanging that I can remember, which was not the case for anything since before Second Season.

There's a whole bunch of stuff. Some side stories, some stuff that actually comes later. I think Zoku Owari's been confirmed for animation at least.

My Girlfriend is a Faithful Virgin Bitch was shit. I mean, it was guaranteed to be so, but it wasn't even a fun trashy show. Just the same joke replayed for the twelve minutes I watched about how the girl wants to appeal to the dude's fetishes, and him giving blank, unenthused reactions about how peculiar this is. Aside from making boobs jiggle, there wasn't even an attempt at ecchi.

idk why I'm even posting this reaction. I'm the only one who even bothered to look more into this show after reading the title.

Oh, and some other first impressions while I'm at it.

Ancient Magus' Bride
Set-up episode, but I already like this more than the OVAs. The setting and concept both allow for a lot of potential. It's 2 cours as well, so I think we should get something pretty special out of this. It might be hard to understand the origin of the main character without the OVAs though. They just sort of glossed over it, which is weird, since the OVAs were supposedly written for manga readers.

Land of the Lustrous
Not much to say here. This is definitely how you do CG though. The bald dude looks odd, but all the other characters, as well as the backgrounds and effects, lend themselves to the use of CG pretty well. It also helps that the animation team is competent. Actual story had a pretty weak start. I am interested in seeing how they adapt the rest though. I feel like I've never seen a story with the main character as a bystander to the action. Hopefully it stays the course, otherwise it'll remove potential and just be a typical action show.

Children of the Whales
Another really slow start, but it had some excellent world building. The atmosphere is similar to Re:Zero and Made in Abyss, so I imagine LTM will claim this as a masterpiece if he bothers to pirate it. Still, I'd keep my eye on this one. Not much really happened in episode one, but this could be a damn fine show if it picks it's feet up. The ending to episode 1 suggests that we may get a more slowly-paced show, but that's not bad if the story works. Still, slow-pacing and 12 episodes don't mix too well.

Inuyashiki
I'd say the worst thing about CG anime is how much they try to emulate a 2D style. The still character models look fine, but movement is super awkward. The show looks like it is constantly dipping in and out of 2D and CG, and when you hit a more animated part, it completely draws you out of what's happening, removing engagement. Like, the MC finds out he has stomach cancer, and you get this really sad sequence of events, but in the climax of it all, you're treated to a highly animated segment and it draws your attention away from the story and onto how weird the animation now looks. Compare this to Land of the Lustrous, which fully embraces being CG, and thus looks nearly perfect, and it's clear that MAPPA hasn't figured this out yet. Actual storywise, this is great! Really looking forward to seeing where this goes.

I think Lion S2 is the only thing left that I'll be checking out.
