Not my fault Crab is the worst girl to break the first girl always wins cliche. She broke it on the most pitiable girl too.

Araragi has much more chemistry with Hanekawa in all their interactions. Hanekawa even has more arcs. There's almost no reason for Araragi to be smitten by Senjougahara. Araragi has deeper bonds with almost all the other girls.

Vamp = mother/child/responsibility
Snail = best friend
Cat = ideal wife, first girl
Doll = Hayami Saori
Bee = ane ue
Phoenix = imouto
Dark = himself
Monkey = kouhai love rival who should have won
Snake = random nobody
Crab = random classmate he should have left alone

I don't think Railgun gets to the Imoutos until S2, but S2 is pretty damn great. If you count them all I think Touma might have the largest harem of any MC ever >_>

Was marathoning it last week. I got to 17 of S1, skipped the ep halfway through, looked at episode 18, skipped, looked at 19, skipped, dropped.

Yeah I mean the general consensus is that the filler arcs (everything past the midseason climax in both seasons) are not good.

Not trying to argue whether or not that makes the show good or something. What I mean is that I don't think not liking the second half of S1 is a sign that you won't like the Sisters Arc. (First part of S2)

Re:Zero didn't have a fucking cooking competition. At least with SAO2 they had a certain number of episodes planned for the 2 arcs and needed 3 episodes to fill.

Because Railgun is a manga that releases a chapter every month or two (I think) and not an LN like Index

I don't think the show looked bad or anything. Just looked typical I guess. Maybe the drab and uninteresting art style and character designs colored my opinion.

Also the lesbian girl is up for worst character award.

Also a little early to be calling Just Because anime of the year, though it has that potential.

Does Just Because get better after episode one? The first episode doesn't show the relationships yet so kinda hard to tell how it will go. This is one of those rare shows where I can't judge after the first episode.

How many bad episodes are acceptable? I don't want to say there isn't grounds for feeling like it's worth it. It took over 40 episodes for SAO to get good, and had I not been finishing it out of obligation I doubt I would have got to those before dropping.

Index I dropped after 5 episodes like 7 years ago. It sounds like I can probably watch S2 and skip the rest of season 1. I've got a third party from here telling me to skip episode 1 of season 2 as well, dunno what's up with that.

Jeez, I'd watch Index/Railgun filler again before trying SAO again. Maybe even Naruto filler too >_>

That's not true at all. You have stuff like episode two of Shinobu Time in Monogatari Second Season, which has essentially no animation, but absolutely incredible art, and works out fantastically. And there's plenty of stuff with fairly generic art but really cool animation that results in some nice fights. Not sure why you feel the need to group them together.

There's a difference between low levels of animation for artistic merit and low levels of animation because a lack of budget. Monogatari isn't the same as half of Black Clover's dialogue being spoken by characters who aren't on screen so thay they don't have to animate their mouths.

They don't so much as need each other as complements, rather, when one is bad, it's going to be an ugly show regardless. You can have good art, but bad animation, and the whole package is brought down, because the art isn't being utilized properly.

Doesn't really work the other way though, now that I think about it. Art is entirely subjective, but animation really isn't. Adventure Time has really bad art imo, but tons of people consider it charming. If something has choppy animation, it's choppy animation.

I'm writing this while exercising so sorry if it makes no sense. It's really just stream of consciousness at this point.

No, I get what your saying. Excellent animation can elevate an art style for sure. In this case, personally, the entire cast of Railgun looks like they could be background characters, so it's hard for me to say the show "looks good".
