Very little gun laws due to strong NRA presence and lobbying preventing even adequate funding of research on gun violence. As for Public Transport, European countries are smaller than American and more city based and I'm pretty sure the cost of a car is way more expensive in Europe between higher gas and less demand of vehicles (plus a lot of rural communities have other things they would wish to budget on)

I don't know if you're trying to make me think this is bad or not, I mostly do but America culturally is very different from Europe.

Yeah, horrifying indeed. I saw a nearly identical story about migrant workers at a trump resort (I want to say it was in the UAE but I could be wrong). Granted it was vice, so it would be called fake news by many. Still, same sort of narrative.

Speaking of the NRA

At the core, is it weapons manufacturers propping up a lobbying wing, or are they actually just amateur gun nuts taking things too seriously?

He clearly meant that the death toll could have been much worse like Katrina and it's great that it's not

But is it so much to ask that he thinks before he speaks?

Yeah the whole comment in itself looks like he is trying to compliment the work done there to prevent loss of life.

Very little gun laws in America compared to Europe and cars are seen as more of a luxury in Europe cause there's way better public transport.

and what's the reason there's very little gun laws in america? and why do we have way better public transport?

It is a combination of the 2nd amendment and a very strong group of lobbyists. We are taught since childhood that our right to own guns is very important to protect ourselves. Criminals could burst into our home steal, steal our stuff, and rape our women at any moment and if they don't do it the government would. But we own a gun we can prevent that or so we are told. In our more recent history groups like the NRA spend tons of money on politicians so they will create laws that favor them. The Dickey amendment is a pretty good example of this. It prohibited the government from spending money on research that might promote gun control. The NRA also uses their money on ads stoking the fear that the government is coming to take our guns and politicians are afraid to be target by these ads. That is why you always see "thoughts and prayers" and "now is not the time to be debating gun control" after every major shooting.

As far as transport goes it is probably based largely on our country's size and how spread out our people are. Cars allowed a certain amount of freedom when traveling and the more popular they became the more we designed our infrastructure around them. Outside of major cities our homes are not set up in a high enough density to justify trains, subways, or buses everywhere. Cars also allow us to come and go on our own schedule even in places that door offer some public transport.

Uh, let's see. There is 100 Senators. It needs Bi-Partisan support to pass. Republicans have already offered up legislation to extend it 5 years. The funds are not depleted and the program is still working as intended.

Until it is passed it is both parties fault, they can't pass it on their own.

The Republicans chose to sideline it for more "KILL OBAMACARE" garbage

And they have brought a 5 year extension to the program. It is an issue with bipartisan support. So blaming it on one side is stupid. They are arguing over the things attahed to it and that makes it both sides faults. They could easily drop the side stuff and pass it or easily agree to the side stuff and pass it.

Blaming everything on Republicans is fun, but also makes you transparent.

It is the entire Senate's fault. If he is not putting it up for a vote, it is because it will fail the vote. If every republican votes yes, it can still fail.

It is a failure of the entire Senate.

No ones coverage has been cut off, but some states have laws that require them to reduce coverage if federal money starts to decrease, and officials say they need time to notify recipients of possible coverage changes.

Both parties favor continuing the federal-state program, but Democrats have opposed cuts in other health spending that Republicans have proposed to help pay for the extension. The measure would provide almost $120 billion for states over the coming five years. I meant 60 was enough to break a fillibuster. I honestly don't know if there's a way to force a vote on a bill if McConnell doesn't want to.
