I don't know the politics or reasoning behind our no vote, but it sounds like something we should have supported.

You would think so but our country is pro death penalty and likes to vote that way no matter how specific the situation is.

I support the death penalty.

Cool but would you always vote pro death penalty no matter the situation like our country does which is why they voted the way they did on this? Because I was just explaining why they voted the way they did today.

I don't think you are obligated to vote pro death on any issue involving the death penalty. So, no.

Corrik I wasn't trying to argue with you I was just trying to explain why they voted the way they voted. I don't know why you volunteered that you were pro death penalty in the first place. It wasnt really related to what I was trying to tell you.

Steve Bannon says that Trump supporters would rather accept full immigration amnesty from Trump before they would accept any pro-gun-control stance by him.

Why do people love guns SO MUCH? I get fighting for the right to own one, but I don't get where the fetishistic appeal comes from

people tend to be driven by fear a lot of the time. owning a gun makes them feel safe, as opposed to powerless if they were unavailable

that's my hot take, anyway

I'd agree with this for some people who fight for the right to own them, but the ones that go above and beyond like Jakyl is describing probably do it to feel powerful, yeah.

I totally get that and I'm not even against owning a hunting rifle or a personal hand gun for protection.

I more mean people who just really love guns so much that's it's a HUGE ISSUE for them if there is any attempt to control them better

If I were to describe the difference between owning them to feel safe and owning them to feel powerful. Not that everyone here would agree with this but it is just how I picture it.

For safety: "I could defend myself if I had to"

To feel powerful: "I could end you if I wanted to"

A lot of them have been fed enough BIG GOVERNMENT propaganda that they're convinced all guns are going to be taken away so the government can quell any civil disobedience and declare martial law etc etc. They also think they are big time badasses and are going to stand up and liberate the country when this happens.

There are a lot of these 'woke' people out there, and I'd wager that they make up the majority of the extreme gun crazy contingent.

Guns are a big part of American culture. Our movies have guns. Our video games have guns. Our shows have guns. Our Constitution has guns. We are told from birth that the right to have a gun is a key part of freedom. Guns are a symbol of power. We used guns to kill all the Native Americans and take their stuff - er, I mean spread our society across all of America. People recreationally shoot wild animals with guns. People buy guns for safety (ignore that it rarely works). People buy guns just to look at them.

I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that a lot of people in America like guns more than they like people. There will always be opposition to stricter gun control, because people fucking love guns.

FIFA is literally the mafia.

It's not on FIFA so much - I mean, the stuff in this article isn't on FIFA so much. This is total disregard for people coming from the government.

I've experienced it even in my job. Not anything near what is in that article - I'm not trying to draw a comparison - but the lack of human empathy, the disdain for employees, the barely-hidden disgust for certain nationalities is something you see all around if you look for it. I'm spared the brunt of it due to my job not being manual labour and the strength of my passport. But it's fucking terrible. Every time I think about it I feel dirty for even being here

There are some good things too though and some workers are treated very well. It's not like...completely shit. But pretty close

Public transport infrastructure would be extremely difficult to implement/keep in a country as big as America, where most people do not live in packed cities.

It's like he said, would have happened already

And honestly for as obviously fucking dumb and corrupt as the process was and for as obviously fucking monstrous as the conditions are, people will pretend it's all fine once the tournament rolls around. The entire country is one giant building site (this week alone I had 10m added to my commute because of more stupid construction in the stupid roads) to get ready for the WC, that train isn't stopping now.

Yeah. Like, in the abstract, I think guns are cool. I considered owning one or at least going to a shooting range. That doesn't mean that an abstract desire to feel like a big man with his rooty-tooty-point-and-shooty should supercede people's literal life or death safety.
