A lot of your text comes across as condescending or holier than thou. Sometimes that's not intentional. But everything after that has convinced me that, if it's not intentional, it's still how you feel about everyone else you argue with.

The reason I dislike Ulti or MWC isn't because of their politics - it's because of their sanctimonious attitudes, their adherence to things that have been proven false even in the face of proof, and in many cases, their adherence to "God said so" (at least in the sense of Ulti).

Your opinion, by itself, isn't bad. It is the manner in which you present it - you acted like you were the only one who was thinking long term, as if everyone else was short-sighted and only cared about the immediate issue. A lot of us are worried about the long term damage.

I'm gonna be honest, FFD probably reads your posts differently because he knows you better. But you're still the one responsible for how your posts are presented. You can either learn to accept that... or learn to push the blame onto other people as you have been doing.

Now granted, opinions which intrinsically disrespect the rights and inherent humanity of other people are not worth respecting. Like, people who believe that I shouldn't be allowed to marry a man just because God said so, or people who believe that the purpose of society is to uphold the strong and tear down the weak, instead of the strong upholding the weak.

I'm still listening to this as I type but I can already tell this is pretty good.

The thing is, if this was text, it would still be good, because the words are genuine and honest, not just the tone of voice. "Tone of text" is definitely a real thing, even though some people don't seem to believe that.

That being said, I would definitely say it's probably easier to understand your own tone when spoken aloud. So I'll give you the point on this. Kudos.

I don't think Donald Trump is the only reason the Republican party is self-destructing. They're self-destructing because, as a party, they're definitely starting to fracture - they may have helped Trump into office, but they're starting to split into people who absolutely worship Trump and people who are realizing that he's not such a good person. Ann Coulter is an example of the latter, as much as I dislike her.

Admittedly it's hard to reply directly to audio.

As for the long lasting harm he can cause, I would point towards how badly Reagan screwed up the economy and how we were getting pretty close to repairing the damage he caused when we elected someone who directly benefited from the damaging policies he implemented. It's not so much that I know what Trump will do, it's that I know it's possible to create long-lasting harm as a President.

Also, in regards to the Republican you're talking about - Great! He sounds like a decent person. And I'm not someone who thinks the Democratic party is the only right party. I would absolutely vote for a Republican candidate who represents my values well over a Democratic candidate who doesn't. The problem I have is that, in the current political climate, that Republican candidate wouldn't even make it to the primaries, because he'd be considered "too liberal".

I think if you're judging the 2020 election plan by this thread though, I'd say I'm a little confused. This is a discussion thread where we talk about current politics. We're not politicians. None of us have the charisma or the power to run as one. I wouldn't even consider Ulti's ideas typical for a Republican. We're on a random message board in the middle of nowhere shooting shit at each other because, honestly, the real world's a lot to deal with and GIFT applies to us as well.

For the record, I'm pretty sure that the big step to abolishing the two party dilemma that we have (because in all honesty it is a problem) is to abolish the electoral college. And it's probably about time we do that, too. For starters, it gives some lower population states more voting power than larger population states, purely because those states are geographically larger. For another, it encourages a two-party system.

Though that's just one step.

It would be easier to hold our politicians accountable when we have more options to choose from.

...Though heaven knows I worry about someone actually electing someone from the literal nazi party.

I think change is more going to come in the way media is delivered and consumed, but right now we are very deep in a transition period where manipulation comes from everywhere and getting a message out, no matter how fake, is easy. And not just out, but spread and believed by everyone. Twitter, facebook, etc to many of us here seem old. But to a vast majority of the world and our country, they dont quite understand them fully.

Isis is actually one group that has spread due to this, in the US its been more conspiracy theories and fake news more easily spread. Its just so much easier to spreae a narrative than ever before, no matter how sensational.

To summarize this in board 8 ways. Political groups and other entities are literally employing Vlados to spread their messages and right now it works.

i don't think chris is judging 2020 that much in this. i mean he doesn't think republicans could win that, which is still something i wouldn't think of at this point as it's entirely possible they do, but it'd just be added onto the list of things that needed to happen to get better in the long run.

And the Democrats need to learn to listen to people like Bernie, Biden, and Tulsi, and drop deadweight like Pelosi.

On that last point, I think LotM's comment about "the left wing of the party is too radical" is extremely telling that dude has zero idea why Bernie was popular.

No offense, man, but "hey let's take care of workers, Vets, students, and the poor" should be the literal basis of the Democratic Party, not some "radical" vision.

Also, what's the deal with Gabbard anyway? I know she's been held up by a wing of the Sanders supporters since the primaries but I forgot what little I remember about her. Except that what I saw wasn't exactly positive. IIRC, all I remember at this point was she supported Sanders in the primaries and Vlado was praising her for some position on Syria. I think there was also some recent vote/statement where she was the sole member of the Hawaii delegation in opposition to something that seemed like a no-brainer.

Don't feel like going too much into it, but my general opinion on the Democratic Party and what it should do is:

Its problem on the national level seems to be nominating uncharismatic people (Gore, Kerry, Clinton) because when it does (Bill, Obama) it does well. Generally its policy positions are supported by the majority of people when you isolate the policies and poll them, but they get trashed by the Republicans in messaging. Certainly they're at the disadvantage of lacking (all claims to the contrary) a major mainstream news network acting as their voice piece to spin for them, but still.

I also think its current internal in-fighting isn't that constructive. Could the "establishment" wing do a better job of listening to the left wing? Yeah, it could. But this isn't some black-and-white issue IMO. Even if I can be frustrated by some of the right-wing Democrats (think Manchin) looking at their voting record it's clear as day that they're infinitely preferable to having a Republican in that seat instead. So if it's the case that the only Democrat that can win a race in a given spot is someone like that, it's still far superior to the alternative. It's a vote for/against judicial and executive appointments, it goes towards determining control of the committees, and ultimately determining the legislative agenda.

I have no issue with, and indeed would personally love to see the Democratic party move further to the left on a wide variety of issues, but a lot of the in-fighting from the left wing these days just feels more destructive than constructive to me. You saw it in the primaries and you still do now, IMO. I mean, hell, at times I feel like they're more focused on tearing down the Democratic party than opposing the agenda that the Republicans are pushing forward right now and that's just crazy to me. If you truly believe that your ideas will help people, I'd think your first priority would be to stop the agenda that you think would hurt people rather than trying to take down the Democratic Party because they're not completely aligned with your vision.

tl;dr: I feel like some on the left are making the perfect the enemy of the good. The Democrats have problems but I feel like their priorities seem off at times. And that they're less trying to "reform" the party than tear it down which is not constructive to implementing their agenda.

I've been told this too. Just last night a cop scanned me guilty or trying to break into someone's car or trying to do something sketchy involving some car. I wasn't given details) in broad daylight at the busiest part of the center of town with literally dozens of witnesses all over the place. I had to explain that I was playing pokemon go. I had been standing in place playing while on a sidewalk and there were parked cars near me because there are always parked cars on that street. He unvoted me and went on his way.

In hindsight, it would have been funny if I had literally said out loud. "I'm going to claim now. I am Pokemon Go Player, TOWN Miller." But he wouldn't have understood the reference.

He did know of the game though. I just showed him my phone and didn't say what the game was but he knew it was pokemon.

I think the left tend to make perfect the enemy of good, but part of the problem is that Democrats continue to listen to their corporate masters. Some people (for who knows what reason) saw Trump as 'different', because he wouldn't be beholden to corporate masters (even though... you know, he is one.) Meanwhile Hillary was giving speeches to Goldman Sachs. People saw that as a sign that she wouldn't do anything to help the middle and lower class--despite the fact that she's really just playing the game she needs to in order to gain support. It didn't help that she wasn't very charismatic (or rather that she didn't really have a strong message that could resonate with a lot of people like Bernie Sanders did). But a lot of people on the left looked at her, and saw her as a DINO, despite the fact that she was left of Obama. I mean she got attacked pretty hard for supporting TPP, while Biden got a big pass on it (despite the fact that Hillary stepped back from TPP once more details came out, and way back in December of 2015 too. While Biden continued supporting it) People never really looked at her record, and instead tied her to her husband. (How many times did Trump attack Bill instead of attacking her? Look at serial adulterers Giuliani and Newt GIngrich attacked Hillary's marriage, saying she was to blame for Bill's cheating)

I'm sure the plan was to have Flynn do all the dirty work setting up the Rosneft deal, take the fall, and Trump would issue a last-minute pardon before his term was up and they'd all be rich. Possibly with Trump resigning before finishing his term and Pence pardoning him if there was heat, which is why he's in perpetual "I don't know nothin" mode. But then everyone caught onto Flynn way too fast and now they don't know what to do.
