Poe Dameron Or Captain Phasma?

Both characters debuted in the force awakens and both were largely irrelevant to the plot or really much of anything going on

yet somehow both of them built up a sizeable following Poe has a good number of fans and an ongoing comic book series while Captain Phasma has the honor of just looking badass and being cooler than she has any right to be...despite her not being that good of a character

Captain Phasma in my opinion. It still bothers me that she willingly turned off the shield, all from that one console, and put the entire planet into danger to save her own life. Hell, she probably blew up inside the trash compactor.

Poe though I felt contributed more to the overall movie and story and actually demonstrated why he was Black Leader with his performance. I do not doubt Phasma capabilities but the movie didn't allow us to see why she has that rank.

The fact that Poe had some actual relevance to the movie automatically makes him more important then Phasma who's only purpose was to get punked in a 10 second scene.

I honestly thought it had to be a ploy to call for help and she'd call them fools for thinking she would do it.

Same. I actually thought she was gonna stall or pretend to lower the shields and was actually calling for reinforcement.

The thing with Phasma though. Even with the shields disabled the it was the longest of long shots that allowed the resistance to blow up Starkiller base. So it doing that made more sense than dying, she though they would fail anyway.

Poe felt like a desperate attempt to channel Han Solo (which is super unnecessary since you know, he's actually there), but he at least fulfills his purpose.

Phasma acted like the villain of a children's cartoon and ended up completely overshadowed by Hux, of all people. I'd much rather see a comic about that guy.

this is what the writer said briefly about the phasma mini series

"Kelly Thompson: “It’s exciting enough when someone lets you contribute to the Star Wars universe in any real way, but when they let you create the first ever Phasma story for comics? Well, that’s about as good as it gets! Like most, I’m a huge fan of both Gwendoline Christie and Phasma. Christie is magnetic and Phasma has so much fascinating untapped potential…potential which I can’t wait to help unlock for fans in our comic.”

“I’ve been a fan of Marco Checchetto’s work for a long time. We actually almost got to work on something together once before and it didn’t work out, so I’m really excited that everything came together this time. And his work on Star Wars: Shattered Empire was some truly exceptional comics, and I’m so excited about what he’s bringing to Phasma.”"

Poe was originally supposed to die (in the crash in the desert, exactly when Finn thinks he does), but test audiences actually liked the character enough for them to write in a scene where he pops up and reveals that - SURPRISE! - he actually survived.

That's part of why his presence in the film is actually a bit weak - he wasn't supposed to be in most of it. But the positive reaction to him almost certainly means we'll see a strongly beefed-up role for him in the next two movies. So while his relevance to the plot is weak in Force Awakens, it probably won't stay that way, and the end result will seem like Force Awakens was just setting up his character for later.

Phasma existed solely to squeeze another female character into the mix and have her wear armor just different enough to potentially sell more toys. She's also sort of screwed by being the character who is blatantly meant to take the Vader role in the narrative, but she gets overshadowed by Kylo, meaning she's utterly superfluous.

She's also supposed to appear in the next two movies (or at least the next one), but honestly, I'm not sure anyone would notice or care if she didn't.

tbh, the whole scene SEEMED like something which the hero would survive because no body was found. Consequently, people might just be annoyed that they thought a swerve was coming and it was played straight in the test.

She might face turn, making her relevant. Or maybe she'll be relevant when Kylo face turns... although she's still just a normal human.

just because saying when someone lets you create the first ever phasma story for comic books that's as good as gets and that phasma has so much untapped potential

again i love her design but i doubt many became fans of her because of what she did in the movie which wasn't much

Well, when your character is a blank slate because virtually has been done with it, there's a lot of untapped potential.

I'm not saying or implying disney's low on funds where did i say that? I'm just saying the casting decision was made with the intent to draw attention upon the character because the actress came from game of thrones

and yet the character was absolute crap....they wasted the time hiring an actress from an extremely popular show so people could start talking about captain phasma and what she could possibly be doing in the new movie

only for her role to be irrelevant...meaningless compared to how they hyped her up in the pre release articles

Let's put it another way: You don't poach a top star from another territory and pay them a bundle more only to have them job in the first match of the night... well, unless your name is Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

As it is, they could have cast a complete unknown and saved themselves a bundle.

I swear I read somewhere that Phasma is coming back in later movies. I mean, they really didn't show them cutting off any of her communications devices, she could have just radioed someone to turn off the trash compactor.

Oh, but that's already happened in a Star Wars movie. Can't have and pandering to nostalgia in any Star Wars movies.

Maybe...her armor is made out of adamantium and just broke the compactor when it tried to compact her.

Poe though I felt contributed more to the overall movie and story and actually demonstrated why he was Black Leader with his performance. I do not doubt Phasma capabilities but the movie didn't allow us to see why she has that rank.

Her armor is also literally invincible. It's made from the metal from Palpatine's personal ship. It's indestructible.
