Classic 2D sprites are where it's at as far as aging well from this gen goes. SMW2 certainly succeeds at what it wants to do but what it wants to do isn't really my style (graphically that is). I voted Chrono Trigger but SD3/ToP are certainly outstanding too. DKC games aged pretty damn well What you have both said is true Yoshi's Island takes this by a mile though. It's insane how good it looked back then and still today DKC has aged very well, but DESPITE its prerendered graphics, not because of them. They had the artistic skill to use all those crazy futuristic effects really well and appropriately, unlike other games trying to do the cutting edge. But there's just a lot they couldn't get around with, being prerendered. Repetition and angle alignment issues and such. Yoshi's Island has none of that. It's insane how good it looked back then and still today DKC has aged very well, but DESPITE its prerendered graphics, not because of them. They had the artistic skill to use all those crazy futuristic effects really well and appropriately, unlike other games trying to do the cutting edge. But there's just a lot they couldn't get around with, being prerendered. Repetition and angle alignment issues and such. Yoshi's Island has none of that. It's visually flawless.</quote> ...
