Board 8 > When you play Pokemon, what starter type do you usually go for?

Mainly asking this question because I almost always go for the grass starter (only Gen 2 and 5 are different, I go for water on those two) and I was wondering if other people on board 8 had a definite preference for types.

Just think grass types are the best designed!

I've been on a fairly even pattern throughout

Fire -> Water -> Grass -> Fire -> Water -> Grass

Sun/Moon finally broke that pattern though and got me to go Grass again... maybe next gen I go water and the pattern just reverses

Charmander, Totodile, Torchic, Piplup, Tepig, Fennekin, Rowlet

So predominantly fire I guess? I don't go into each game going "I'm going to pick the fire starter" though... I would definitely say its unconscious.

I don't feel like I have an inherent preference and just go for what looks the best/sounds most interesting. Turtwig would've been Chimchar based on looks, but I think I liked the idea of an early Earthquake user.

Gen 5 I picked Snivy at first but he was such a disappointment that subsequent playthroughs and BW2 I picked Oshawott.

Gen 4 is extremely close between Turtwig and Piplup. 7 was the closest to getting me to pick Fire but bow tie Ow too good

So no clear preference.

So technically Piplup was my third choice, after Chimchar, and then Turtwig, but I couldn't figure out how to save lol.

The first time I go through I always pick the water starter just out of tradition. It's only really gen 3 where I feel it's the worst of the bunch.

The only grass starter I picked is Snivy.

Water with Grass pretty close behind. I know Fire is usually the best of the three to take, but generally I like the designs of the Water and Grass starters more. I think it mostly goes back to Totodile in Gold. Feraligatr has and probably always will be my favorite Pokemon. It's hard not to always go for Water after that.

I thought I had no preference, but looking back it seems I usually chose Grass. Even though I prefer water element, Grass just usually has more appealing Pokemon when it comes to starters.

I did choose Mudkip and Piplup, and Fennekin was the first Fire type I chose because I love foxes... too bad its evolutions are lame.

The random was because I was doing a nuzlocke and decided to leave it up to chance. I got Fennekin but it died early on but I guess that's still the tiebreaker for fire? whatever

squirtle, cyndaquil, no preference, didnt play gen 4 but like turtwig, snivy, love them all but chose chespin, rowlet or popplio

so i guess i lean towards grass. havent liked the fire starters in a long time, with the exception of fennekin

Despite my obvious fondness for Grass starters, though, the only ones I really like are Treecko, Turtwig, and Snivy. I like Charmander best from gen 1, I dislike all the gen 2 starters, I like Fennekin best from gen 6, and I haven't played a gen 7 game. So it's not like I lean strongly towards Grass.

You should play the last 2 generations sometime. If you already have a 3DS, you're in a much better position for playing the last 2 generations.

You should play Gen 7 sometime. Since you've played Gen 6, that means you have a 3DS and thus you have the system required to play Gen 7 as well. My guess is that you'll pick Rowlet, since it's the first time a Grass starter is the most popular of its generation.
