I was thinking the same thing. It definitely makes sense for him to be out for a long time/gone now. Still scary to watch, I was worried he'd end up breaking his neck or something. I was watching for him to move right after he hit the ground. Hopefully this is the start of a real build for Owens where he isn't some kind of joke (like his Universal Title run).

I generally have praise for Smackdown Live I'll have you know! Heck just two weeks ago I was expressing so much glee about Jinder winning the number one contendership.

Post mania departures + brand shakeup have not been especially kind to it though.

(For the purposes of this discussion, "North America" means their home promotion is in the US or Canada)

This is an interesting discussion. AJ not being in anyone's Top 2 in North America would be strange, but who is the consensus other one? It doesn't feel "right" to say KO. But then it's hard to argue with results.

KO is living up to every ounce of his talent and that makes him elite. I can't help but feel like Joe's talent is off the charts though, when he is in position to be on top, but he's not right now.

Also don't overlook Aries. I think he's THE 2nd-best in-ring under the WWE umbrella, and while he falls just short of Owens' heel work, he more than makes up for it by being a B-level babyface as well, and Kevin doesn't have that range. Again though, are we judging talent or actual work? Aries is just now gearing back into greatness after his injury.

And then on some level this feels pointless since it's not REALLY a top 2, but rather AJ and then everyone else

I like how even though Jinder's push apparently exists solely because he looks impressive now, they aren't actually trying to book him as if he were anything but a joke.

Nah, they've been doing a fine job with Jinder's booking so far. He needs help to win, but that's 95% of heels now.

If they are going to push a guy as a heel, having two dweebs CONSTANTLY help him win is better than, "Oh no Y2J ran in at the last possible second. Who could have seen this coming?" They are upfront about Jinder "buying" their aid, either with wealth or by using their shared culture as an excuse to team up. Gang up on people. It's also hilarious just how small the Singh Brothers are. They are perfect for the "we are the gnats buzzing around your face" irritants to give Jinder just enough time to take advantage.
