With only about a week remaining until the first matches begin, I want to have a prediction topic up and running. Should someone else decide to step up and run the Oracle Challenge using the Oracle Challenge website, I will relinquish all duties necessary to host the Oracle Challenge and hand over hosting responsibility to the new host.

The Challenge

For each match in the GameFAQs Spring 2017 Best Year in Gaming Contest (referred herein as "SpC2k17"), you need to pick a winner and predict the percentage of the vote they will receive. New participants will always be accepted throughout the contest (but please indicate that you are new and make a minimum of three picks).

Post your predictions in this topic, one prediction per line. Your predictions must start with the name of your winner and end with your predicted percentage. Examples:

1998 with 54%
1998 55.1%
1998 over 2001 with 53.64%
1998 - 52.85%

Please use one of these formats, and always remember to include the % sign. Predictions are entered into our database by a script, which may miss your predictions if you use some other weird format or forget to include the % sign.

The Scoring

For each match you will earn points based on how close your guess was to the actual outcome. Scoring is cumulative and the winner of the SpC2k17 Oracle Challenge will be the person with the most points at the end of the final match! For each match you can earn anywhere from 0 and 50 points. The scoring system works as follows:

Correctly choosing the winner earns you 50-x points.
Incorrectly choosing the winner earns you 45-x points.
(Where x is the difference between your guess and the year's actual final percentage.)

Example:

Your guess: 1998 with 55%
My guess: 2001 with 55%
Actual result: 1998 60%, 2001 40%
Your score: 50 - (60-55) = 45 points
My score: 45 - (55-40) = 30 points

The Rules

It is necessary to have a few rules to keep the challenge running smoothly. Here they are:

1) A valid entry consists of a clear pick and prediction (i.e. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with 77.77%). The prediction must be greater than or equal to 50.00%.
2) Your prediction does not need to be different from everybody else's. However, intentional and continuous prediction mimicry will NOT be allowed.
3) All predictions must be made before the usual start time of that match's poll (at exactly 12:00 AM Eastern). Predictions submitted after this time will NOT be counted. No predictions will be accepted after the poll has started, regardless of the start time.
4) You may change your prediction for any match at any time, subject to the other rules.
5) You may NOT delete any post in a prediction topic (if you do, please post immediately after to explain the deletion). This is to prevent abuse of the above rules and to reduce confusion.
6) If you have made a mistake with any of your predictions, please don't edit or delete your post. Simply make another post with your corrected predictions (subject to the above rules).
7) If you post with an alt, you must clearly state the name of your main account. (Exception: if the alt is listed on your user profile page <http://oraclechallenge.com/profiles.php?type=users>;, we already know about it).
8) You may predict matches for future divisions/rounds in advance if you need to. Please tell me beforehand in the Discussion Topic so we can arrange this.
9) I reserve the right to disqualify a pick for any justifiable reason.

Team Challenge

The popular Team Challenge is back again! If you want to be in a team, head to the sign-up topic and confirm your team before the first matches of the contest begin. Once the first matches begin, you're out of luck if you want to be in the Team Challenge. If you are in a team, this is how it's gonna work:

1. Make just one prediction per match subject to the rules above - it counts for the Oracle Challenge and the Oracle Team Challenge!
2. Your team score for the day is equal to both team members' scores added together.
3. If one player misses a prediction, the team will get either (partner's score * 2) or (partner's score + average score for the day), whichever is lower. This is to keep teams from being eliminated by one missed prediction, and this ONLY applies to the team scores.

We are now accepting predictions for the Wildcard Round and all round 1 matches. None of the years appearing in the Wildcard Round from the Vote-In polls (1978, 1979, 1981, 1983) are expected to advance to round 1, but I've included them under the Round 1 matches in the unlikely event one of the Vote-In years advances out of the Wildcard Round.

A quick heads-up to anyone who is planning to participate in the Oracle Challenge:

Until we know the exact schedule for the contest, I suggest predicting all 4 matches in the Wildcard Round before the contest officially starts on May 2nd. Based on some information I found in the contest rules page, the first day of the contest may feature all 4 matches running at the same time.

After the first day of the contest, Round 1 will only have 2 matches per day.

It's too late to fix it now, but I think having the Wildcard picks and Round 1 picks in the same topic will mess up the Oracle script. It won't be able to tell the difference between a Wildcard round 2005 prediction and a Round 1 2005 prediction so those predictions will need to be added manually.

Oh, you're right about that.

Considering the Wildcard Round will probably last for one day if all 4 matches run at the same time, I wanted to give people more than 1 full day to make predictions for Round 1. I should have created 2 separate topics, one for the Wildcard Round and the other one for Round 1. For all of the predictions posted in this topic, I'm going to assume the first prediction for 2009/1989/2005/2006 listed in each post will be for the Wildcard Round.

This means if you are going to make a prediction change for a Round 1 match featuring an entrant from the Wildcard Round, this should be specified in your post if you are making the change prior to the start of the first matches.

I see you edited this post. I looked at the edit history and saw some weird garbage text after some of the percentages. I'll let this pass since the first matches haven't started yet, but don't edit your post in a prediction topic again.

Yes, you are predicting the percentage for each year you think will win its match.

And yeah, I probably wasn't expecting as much support for the Oracle this year because the overall hype for this contest is much lower than previous contests.

When's the deadline for predictions? I assume tomorrow, May 1st, 4:59:59 PM, Pacific Time, but I don't want to run into any surprises.

That deadline is for filling out a bracket.

For the Oracle Challenge, the deadline is 12:00:00 AM Eastern on the day that each match starts. So if you want to predict the Wildcard Round matches, those predictions cannot be submitted any later than 12:00:00 AM on May 2nd. For later matches, the prediction should be submitted before the start time of that match.

Well...are people just not into predicting which number will get which percentages?

I'm a little bummed at the lack of Oracle support this year. The hype for it wasn't executed properly...

I usually wait until shortly before the match starts to submit my predictions
