I'll Make a Man Out of You is amazing. Top 3? Not sure, but definitely amazing. Bells of Notre Dame has some really good parts, but overall I wouldn't probably even put it in my top 10. Still, different stroke different folks.
I'm totally bias toward Little Mermaid, since it's my favorite movie ever, but Under the Sea isn't actually one of my favorite from the movie. Part of Your World -- and especially Part of Your World Reprise -- just amazing though. Jodi Benson is a major badass.

This topic is making me want to do my own Disney ranking. But I've got... other rankings to tend to first >__>

Not by a whole lot, but totally. Also I might be just as biased toward Mulan as you are towards Little Mermaid. Flove that movie. I... actually wasn't that impressed with Hunchback on the whole, but it easily has both my favorite Disney villain and my favorite Disney soundtrack so lots of bonus points there.

I once asked the internet how to make myself look better, and everyone told me not to shave my chest. The joke, of course, being that I've never shaved it and am just hairless. Everyone implied that was awful.

Anyway, you still underestimate Gaston, and I'm curious where you would put Arabian Nights had people remembered to nominate it.

It is now time for...

MORE ON THIS LATER (as promised in post #303)

So... Judge Claude Frollo is pretty much the most ruthless, most merciless, most badass Disney villain ever. It's implied in the movie that he's been capturing Gypsies that have snuck into Paris illegally and locking them away (or worse) throughout is reign as Judge-Minister which, as he's quite ancient, can only mean he's been doing this unhindered for a long time. And what makes him so special is, he isn't doing it to further himself in the world like Scar, or to get back at someone whom he believes has wronged him in some way like Maleficent or Queen Grimhilde. He's not even doing it for his own profit like Clayton or Governor Ratcliffe. No, what sets him apart from other Disney villains is that he's does evil in the name of God. He believes with all his heart and soul that what he's doing to these inferior people is righteous- that it's what God would want him to do.

Of course every Disney villain(ess) thinks what they're doing is right or (s)he wouldn't be doing it, but how many can say they act in the name of God? That concept is a lot deeper than what most Disney movies set forth for children to ponder, which is why I didn't really "get it" and didn't develop an appreciation for Frollo until much later. It's actually portraying the Pagan society as the peaceful (good) ones and the Catholic persecutors as the evil people here, and it also gives more weight to Esmeralda's words "I thought we all were the children of God".

So, to back away from the symbolism a bit, Frollo has been imprisoning, torturing, and sentencing these second-class citizens to their deaths for a long time and no one has bothered to stand up to the man, let alone stop him from doing any of this until Esmeralda and later Phoebus did. Quasi, understandably, is the last to join this Resistance because he actually trusts the man who murdered his own mother in cold blood. Regarding that, he breaks this woman's neck by kicking her hard enough to make her fall violently onto some concrete steps and he doesn't give one damn about it. He thought what she was cradling to herself was stolen goods, so when he discerns it as a baby by its cry his look is not one of utter horror at the grievous mistake he's just made, but one of mild surprise. It's like "Oh wow, she didn't want me to take her stolen food, she was trying to protect her offspring. Imagine that..." The true look of horror comes when he finds out that it's malformed.

So he conspires to drown a freaking newborn baby because it looks different. I mean, no other villain in Disney history has stooped so low. Scar was willing to murder a child, but not a newborn baby. Maleficent puts a curse on a newborn baby to essentially kill her own her sixteenth birthday. Queen Grimhilde waits until Snow White is of an age in which her beauty poses a serious threat to her own, but no other Disney villain has the drive to directly kiil a baby for reasons other than nature - Sabor and that barracuda from Finding Nemo don't count. They were just hungry.

When stopped by the actual religious authority of the city, the archdeacon... I mean listen to him, "This is an unholy demon. I'm sending it back to Hell where it belongs." No remorse at all for the child, nor for the mother "I am guiltless. She ran; I pursued." I mean he refers to them as "vermin" shortly before this, and afterwards as "a scourge". It's only when the archdeacon tells him that he has sinned and would spend an eternity in Hell for murdering an innocent women that he agrees to repent. These are some powerful words to describe Frollo: "Frollo longed to purge the world of vice and sin, and he saw corruption everywhere except within..."

Now that I think on it, I can't recalling any other Disney films using words like "Hell" or "damnation". Is this Disney at its darkest (symbolically, not atmospherically because we all know that honor goes to Nightmare Before Christmas)? Anyway when confronted with this idea of actually having to face judgment for what he's done he takes the malformed child in and agrees to raise it, but as a proud man, he only agrees to do it out of eyesight of others. From then on he proceeds to poison the boy's mind with the idea that the world is corrupt and that he is a monster because of the way he looks. Also, just because he's evil he gives him a horrible name to dehumanize him. So after attempting to kill this child, successfully killing his mother, and persecuting this child's people for generations he cannot even show him the common decency of treating him like a son. The baddest of the baddies for sure.

In short, Frollo is awesome. You'd better recognize!

And if you haven't seen this movie in over a decade , go dust off your old VHS player and watch it! And if you haven't seen it at all (damn you)... here!

Now you have absolutely no excuse. By the way, that's not the original version. This version has all of the songs redubbed by a singer by the name of Daniel P. Collins. I don't know if it's the whole movie or just the songs because I've only seen the first five minutes, but it's pretty solid. Certainly better than never having seen it at all! >=(

Also, here's the original version, but it's been edited by someone who apparently hates Hugo, Victor, and Laverne lol. Also better than nothing!

I've already spoken pretty much all of my thoughts on Frollo. Best Disney villain by far in my humble opinion. The only thing I haven't mentioned is his voice, which I thought I would save for his signature song...

2) Hellfire
From: The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Nominated by: DoctorBIind

The late Tony Jay is a man with a phenomenal voice. As far as male vocals go, I would say it doesn't get much more distinctive than Tony Jay. Perhaps Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones have him beat by virtue of appearing in more media, but between all of them, my award for favorite goes straight to Jay, and mostly for this very song. There's not much more I can say if you haven't seen it for yourself. It's typically either a love or hate kind of song, and I just flove it. Best Disney villain. Best Disney villain song right here.

So... let's review a few of the things I've said before: Judge Claude Frollo has been hunting, capturing, imprisoning, torturing, and murdering the 'Gypsy scourge' for many, many years. And now, in his old age he has ironically fallen in lust with one. No, not love, as he despises the girl and believes her to be a witch who has cursed him. He has fallen in lust with a gorgeous Gypsy girl. So, what does this highly religious man do in this situation... pray to God to make those feelings dissipate? No. Well kind of, but not really. He vows to make her either accept God and become his bride, or burn her at the stake. Wow, truly he is a master charmer. "Choose me or your pyre. Be mine or you will burn." Between marrying the cruelest man in all of Paris or burning alive, I'm not sure which would be more painful.

Anyway, the song. It's good. Frollo's magnificent voice is highlighted by the Latin-chanting... messengers. I honestly cannot tell if the hooded figures are emissaries of God or Satan, and you know what? I kind of like that they're ambiguous like that. Either way, they are clearly there to punish Frollo for his sins and whether they do it in the name of He Above or He Below doesn't matter as much as the fear they are instilling into this cruel man's heart.

Favorite scene: When Esmeralda's form can be seen dancing erotically in the flames, and also in the smoke.

Favorite part of the song: The end of course. "But she will be mine or sheeeeee willllll BUUUUUUUUUUUUURN!" *drops to knees in exhaustion*

1) The Hula Song
From: The Lion King

This song is just so beautiful. I mean it really speaks to my soul. The dance that the meerkat, Timon does in his little grass skirt is so graceful and elegant that it almost brings tears to my eyes. Alright, here it is. The real long-anticipated #1 of my favorite Disney songs as nominated by you, the users.

1) Under the Sea
From: The Little Mermaid
Nominated by: Pokewars

Under the Sea has been my childhood favorite for... ever. Heavy influence from nostalgia + colors! + underwater special effects + crab singing in a Jamaican accent + fun, upbeat song + harmony + Disney magic pretty much = all the ingredients needed to make my favorite Disney song of all time. I couldn't even pinpoint exactly why I like it more than any other Disney song. I just do.

Ariel's home really is beautiful. I wouldn't really want to leave it personally.

Favorite lines:

"Darling it's better down where it's wetter" - never realized how perverted you could make that line lol.

"Up on the shore they work all day. Out in the sun, they slave away" - It's true. So true. V_V

Favorite scene: The entire thing. I love how the blackfish sings in a stereotypically black diva's voice. XD

Favorite part of the song: The conclusion (2:43 - 3:21)

So yeah... That's it. Thanks for joining me y'all. Last non-Disney HM coming up shortly and final list revealing.
