This song is so soft and cute and touching and then you realize... Simba's not a very good daddy! He's not really addressing the concerns of his daughter (who has the cutest singing voice) at all for like half of the song- he's just singing to himself about blah blah ideals and then remembering he has an offspring. It's hilarious really! Example: Question: Dad, am I my own person or am I just another lion in the collective pride? Answer: Dead beloved ones are still with us in our hearts! I... I don't think Kiara was just singing to herself there. So what gives, Pops!? Anyhoo Pan flute accompaniment is yay! ^_^ And really this song is just very cute on the surface.

And here is the highest rated television theme song nominated! Looooove this intro so much. I do believe I grew up with it. Love how it starts out fast-paced and that beat is kept up pretty much throughout until it slows down into an appropriate slow speed. So yeah, nostalgia + cute +... Yeah, that's... pretty much it.

33) Mother Knows Best

I feel like this is a song that's more stunning visually than it is phonetically. I love Gothel's dramatic nature and the gags with her hair- especially that bit where Rapunzel is hiding in it like it's a blanket (too friggin adorable), but I feel the vocals don't really carry it. Like not just the part near the end that Donna Murphy is intentionally botching, but the entire thing lacks that oomph... lacks feeling. It's the same problem I've got with Friends Like Me only sung a bit better: just too much going on vocally. Lacks focus in an attempt to be fun. My favorite line "Ruffians, thugs! Poison ivy, quicksand! Cannibals and snakes *gasp* The Plague - 'No'- YES!" is pretty much what got it this high. Now had you nominated the reprise instead, easy ten-fifteen spots higher. LOVE Mother Knows Best Reprise- one of the few reprises I like waaaay more than the original. Literally gives me chills almost every time!


32) Just Around the Riverbend

I love Poca's singing voice, but... I would love it even more if it matched her speaking voice. This is why I have a bit more respect for Paige O'Hara and Jodi Benson. Not to say Irene Bedard has a terrible singing voice, but well we'll never know now will we? Does Judy Kuhn (Poca's singing voice) have a gravelly smoker's speaking voice? If not, why hire two people? I just don't get it. Whoops, got off-tangent there. Anyway the song is sung beautifully by a different person than the one who oh nevermind. Now if you've been following so far you'll know I like fast-paced songs like this one. However my favorite part of this song is when it slows down as it draws to its conclusion. Nice pipes, Judy!

I agree with how Mother Knows Best is really entertaining but not really strong vocally. I'd still put it over WWMLB though.

31) When Will My Life Begin?

Great intro song to Tangled with a great way to introduce us to Rapunzel. Mandy Moore is a great singer, but this song doesn't really have much... substance? I guess what I'm trying to say is it sounds great (wow I have used the word "great" in this writeup too many times already) but I don't really feel attached to it. In fact if there weren't quite so much vibrato in Tom Hulce's performance I'd have to rank Out There higher than this because as far as songs about young people locked away in towers by abusive guardians in an effort to keep them "safe" go I feel more far more sympathetic to Quasi's plight than Rapunzel's. Anyway, as with Just Around the Riverbend my favorite part of this song is the slower tempo section at the end. Weird I know, but it's pretty much the only part I actually feel for her.

HM #4 Pangur Ban

Alright so truthfully, this isn't at all one of those "often mistaken for Disney" movies because it's Irish and relatively unknown. Really I just wanted to give props to this movie! It's beautifully animated and the tale is wonderfully told. I think it's still on Netflix, so go see this today! Regarding this song... this hauntingly gorgeous melody is really something you should see in its own context.

I think Simba did answer her, albeit indirectly. The message there is supposed to be is everyone is necessary to make the whole. I always took it as it was necessary to be yourself and you make "one" with everyone else because everyone is different and that makes up a complete "pride" or whatever.

Anyway yes, very underrated song! Also sung by Liquid Snake.

30) I Put a Spell On You

Oh man, I used to love this movie. If my mom weren't allergic, I would've bought a black kitty and named him Binx because of this movie. This song is my second favorite of the film (the first is Come Little Children). Though Winnefred's voice isn't exactly the most melodic, she and her sisters rock this pure fun song and you just can't help but love it for what it is imo. The harmony is surprisingly good here, and that ending chord is A+. :)

I love Anika Noni Rose's voice. It's this perfect blend of soft and powerful and it's got that soul. Also I love the artistry in this scene- the poster coming to "life" thing is pretty brilliant. And finally... <3 Tiana's mom. "How long we talkin' 'bout, here?" "I want some grandkids!" Heh. Reminds me of my mom, but uh... that ain't happenin' no time soon, sorry.

28) The Circle of Life

Here is a song in which I'm a bit divided on certain parts. To put this in a nutshell, I love, love, LOVE the African chanting at the very beginning, but, while I obviously like the rest of it I feel like it tries too hard. Not to say that the English vocalist has a bad voice or is yelling through the song- in fact she's perfectly on pitch and projects well without shouting- but I feel like the last two thirds of the song are trying to feel like an epic masterpiece. As such this song gets consistently overrated. It still gets a good placement here, but with these reservations I just couldn't place it in my top 25. As for the imagery, it's gorgeous. It's almost indescribable watching all of the animals great and small make their endless rounds to see the presentation of the soon-to-be King.

27) Son of Man

I love this song, but you guys all failed to nominate my favorite Tarzan song. Seriously no one else likes Two Worlds??? Anyway, love the scenery here. Bildungsroman-style tales are a personal favorite of mine, so a song based on the concept is going to automatically be liked if it's not terrible. And this isn't. But seriously Two Worlds > all.

26) The Kraken

It's just so dramatic! I had never realized how badass this song was in its context, probably because there was so much happening on the screen. Without any distracting sea monsters f***ing s*** up, you can really see how good Hans Zimmer's work is. This is seriously better than the Jaws theme music. Usually I despise the pipe organ, but damn when it's utilized well like it is in this song, it can be the most exquisite of instruments.

A couple of years ago we got invited to play at Magic Kingdom (Disney Land I think, or is it world?), and one of the selections we did was a POTC medley. I got to play the low part at the beginning and it was awesome.

Yes, my favorite song from the movie was nominated and it hurts to give it a placement not twenty spots higher but you guys nominated better stuff. I-2-I (I've seen it written both ways and I have no idea which is canon and don't feel like looking it up so to save time I'm using the shorter denotation and with this long explanation I'm killing the time I could have saved) is the most iconic song of the movie and a most fitting song to go out to. It's the culmination of Max's wildest dreams, his ticket to get the girl, and his ultimate act of father-son bonding all in one and it sounds f***in' awesome to boot!

24) Pictures In My Head

Good call nomming this instead of Man or Muppet, Mega Man. I can tell you your first choice would've backfired by about thirty spots. Anyway, it's so touching... I wasn't expecting this to be a sad song at all, so wow that dropped a bomb on me. Not saying I cried, but I might've got a little misty-eyed. And Kermit's voice sucks, so it's really really surprising that this worked as well as it did.

I had to switch the locations of this song and the next thrice before settling on this spot. I kind of really dislike Ursula, but even I can't deny the power behind Pat Carroll's voice. She doesn't sing so much as boom (in a good way). And Ursula is quite the character- "And don't underestimate the importance of body language, HA!" Caroll has a very distinctive voice which is a far cry from "pretty", but that's kind of the whole point because she needs a voice like Ariel's to have any chance of fulfilling her evil plot.

This song taught me so many big words when I was an older child (as a younger child I had no idea what the flip this guy was saying). Props for that. Jeremy Irons has a pretty distinct voice that definitely works for "the villain", but does it work for this song? Yes. Absolutely yes. His voice goes from sonorous and soothing to harsh and gravelly in an instant which perfectly captures the essence of the different facets of the sociopathic Scar, who is just so suave and devilish you can't help but love him! This is like... the perfect villain song, but there are two I find beyond perfect. So here this falls.

The Christina Aguilera version is superior of course, but I've been using the in-movie version for everything else up until now, so that would be unfair. Anyway, this song is a personal favorite of mine. I'm sure most of us can relate to feeling different, being pushed one way in life while wanting to go another way, or not living up to others' expectations for you, and this song just has a beautiful message and tells it in a short amount of time.

HM #3 Spark Inside Us

Now... if you've been paying attention then I know what you're thinking. I've spent the entire first half of the list knocking children's singing voices and here are three HM songs featuring children singing or adults imitating children's voices in a row, but these are different. These people can really sing. They aren't tone deaf, they sound exquisite and rare. It's beautiful really. Plus nostalgia (not for Pangur Ban, but certainly for the other two). I love Curtie's (Kurtie's?) voice and I love this song. Such fond memories.
