Yeah... it's aged a lot better than many of the other songs of its era but you guys nominated better stuff than the poster Disney song.

As I mentioned in Brett's contest, though I'm not sure if anyone other than Poke noticed, Be Our Guest is one of those Disney songs I used to hold in a much higher regard but in recent years, my reception toward it has cooled somewhat. Not enough to leave it out of my top 50 though.

(Putting aside my feelings on Anagram's recent Best Intro Ever contest or whatever it's called) This is actually a pretty good number. Visually it's not all that impressive, but if there's one thing this song has going for it, it's that it's a catchy toe-tapper. One thing though: I would've liked it a little more if the trumpets blared the same scale instead of the vocalist, because that "woo-OO-oo!" does start to grate after a while. If I'm not mistaken there's only one television intro higher than this one.

Also might I add that this is in no way better than the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air opening and you guys still suck for that one. I will never understand B8's duck fetish...

In retrospect, I might've put this a few spots too high, but ya know what? I don't give a damn. Know why? Because I love Vanessa Doofenshmirtz (HINT, HINT, HINT). I love her voice and I love her style. She's awesome and badass and she doesn't even have to try. She just has to be "her".

A little smokage awoo oo oo oo oo. Man, to think Pauly Shore was actually funny in this... Anyway, <3 this song. Heavy nostalgia, nice vocals that Max is not actually supplying at all, but it's okay because Powerline rocks and stuff. Love when the tempo slows after the rap part. Just way cool.

I've always been pretty lukewarm on the romantic numbers tbqh. There's literally only one romance song that would place in my top ten Disney songs of all time and two that would place in my top 25. They were both nominated, and I'm afraid this was not one of them. However... this is still really good. I love Sebastian the crab's voice, so almost any song with him > any song without him... almost. Despite Scuttle's enthusiastic attempts to totally ruin this number, even he cannot disguise the beauty of the ambiance put forth in this scene. Yes.

Actually this starts off pretty darn boring. Well, it's very atmospheric but without the context I can't find myself relating to it. And since I don't know what scene it's played during I can't even research the context. However, one thing sets it apart from its competition: those damn strings. Around 2 minutes and 40 seconds in, this beautiful violin rift starts playing and it almost brings tears to my eyes. I am a sucker for violins.

43) Can You Feel the Love Tonight

Karo you nominated a lot of love songs... You tryin' to tell me something, bro? I kid, I kid. Anyway this is a great song. I can't stand Pumbaa's VA but he somehow seems tolerable here and Timon is always good. Together they make a nice intro and outro, but the heart and soul of this song is of course the meat of this vocal sandwich: the central piece sang by Simba and Nala. I loooove Nala's singing voice here, and Matthew Broderick just sounds sexy. Uh... regarding the visuals one not-so-kid-friendly implication-heavy scene kind of puts me off just a bit, but the rest of this scenery is so breathtakingly gorgeous it makes up for it.

42) When She Loved Me

This song is one I would consider a cheap tear-grab. Sorry if that offends anyone- just the way I view it. Sure it got me the first time, but as I got older I kind of realized using Sarah Mclachlan + sad scenery is kind of like using a cheatsheet for sympathy. I mean just look at those animal shelter ads. Anyway, it's still this high because it's a damn beautiful song. I can totally hit that "Through the summer and the fall" range! :D

Faaanfare!! I love the fanfare style intro, and the soft string tones interlaced with the hard-hitting trumpets just blend together to make an exquisite, atmospheric piece. Brings back memories of when I actually used to love this movie- before I started hating sports and everything related to them obvies. 3:05- 3:11 is the best. For some reason this is also reminding me of Jurassic Park.

HM #5 Dreams to Dream

A cookie to anyone who can guess which 90s cartoon character this songstress also played without looking it up. Anyway, I've already said I don't like the very slow-paced songs and yet one's getting an HM here! Nostalgia!!! Anyway gorgeous song by a talented VA. The accompanying scene is also really touching, but unfortunately I couldn't find it with Tanya's VA singing it, though it accompanies plenty of covers and fandubs. >_>

Oh and to anyone who actually saw this movie and loved it, enjoy this swift kick in the balls/taco:

40) You'll Be In My Heart

Now here's a sad sort of song that doesn't intentionally tug at your heart strings. It's not tear bait. It doesn't try too hard. It just... is. That makes it sweeter and imo easier to relate to. Phil Collins is pretty damn awesome.

39) Belle

It's the opening number for Beauty and the Beast it is. Opening numbers are pretty important in Disney movies. They set the tone for the film, introduce important characters, and they hook you in. Belle does a good job of this, but not a great job. There are a few I much less than Belle, but there are far more that I like better than it. Actually... I prefer Belle Reprise to Belle. "I want adventure in the great, wide somewhere!" Anyway... I love the symbolism with the sheep herd there. She tries to explain her story to a ewe, but it takes no interest and eats a corner off of a page and then shortly after the herd moves on without her. In that way Belle is like the black sheep that doesn't fit into the "herd" that is the townsfolk.

38) One Jump Ahead

This was a great song to introduce us to Aladdin: fast-paced, free-flowing, loud and animated, punctuated by occasional heartfelt notes "Just a little bread, guys..." only to speed back up again. I imagine that's what life on the streets is like- one minute begging for food/funds from passerby and the next fleeing from the cops for soliciting and loitering. Aw, poor Al.

37) When We're Human

I think this is actually one of the weakest songs in P&tF, after Goin' Down the Bayou and Evangeline. And yet it's still this freakin' high. This should tell you how I feel about P&tF's soundtrack. It's probably my third favorite Disney movie for soundtracks. The first two? You'll just have to wait and see... :3

36) I Wanna Be Like You

I can't imagine too many more songs sung by an antagonist that are more fun than this one. King Louie is just such a cool character. And the funniest thing about this placement is he actually doesn't have that great a voice! It's kind of hoarse like you'd expect someone who frequently shouts or smokes to sound, and yet it's exactly that unique quality to his voice that makes me like this so much. That and this awesome jungle beat. It only gets better when Baloo is added to the mix.

It's a kid's movie! Well like I said, the scene doesn't detract from the song and even if it did, the remaining scenery is more than enough to make up for it. You can pretty much throw a waterfall in anything and I'll like it. Unless it's a sewer or something. Sewage waterfalls... not as romantic.

Well, there are adult themes in almost all Disney movies.

Frollo sings a song about how he needs to have sex with a young girl and Scar sings a song in which he portrays Hitler. I think Nala is at the lower end of offending kids spectrum.
