Welcome to Season 5 of Board 8 Baseball! KCF and his "Bimmy Lee Cobainheim's Bearorists of San Marino" won the World Series last year, but any teams could be your new champion at the end of the season. Except Dr_Football.

~~~How it works~~~
-You can change your roster every third game in the regular season as long as you post in this topic to confirm it for my records. You can switch up your rotation, change your lineup, add or drop players, etc.. Deadlines for roster/lineup changse will be announced after every third week of games.
-You can add/drop any of your players at any time until the FREE AGENT DEADLINE before Week 15. However, if you drop a player, you can not pick them up until your team has played two more games. So if you dump somebody after Week 5, you can't pick them up again until before Week 8. Other teams can pick them up first come, first serve.
-Playoff structure will be top 4 teams per division. One-game playoffs will decide any ties that determine a playoff berth.
-INJURIES: If a player is injured in a game, he will be out 4 games. As in he misses the 4 games AFTER their injury. If injured in Week 5, the player can not be activated until before Week 10. The All Star Game counts as a week off.
==WEEK 14 SCHEDULE==
Check SwInge [7-6] @ Roughnecks [4-9]
---J. Jurrjens (2-0, 0.00) vs. C. Wilson (0-3, 5.71)
The Roughnecks staved off elimination last week against Cy Young candidate Jaime Garcia, and they will need another miracle in a must-win game against another Cy Young candidate in Jair Jurrjens, who can lock up a playoff spot for SwInge with a win. SwInge are on a three game winning streak and are 4-2 on the road.
Weasels [4-9] @ Cubs [5-8]
---D. Haren (2-1, 3.71) vs. C. Carpenter (2-1, 3.65)
In a very even pitching matchup, two teams on the bubble will fight it out for the last Badass League playoff spot while keeping an eye on the Roughnecks game. The Weasels have lost 5 straight.
Underachievers [7-6] @ #OccupyMannys [8-5]
---C. Kershaw (1-1, 2.05) vs. J. Santana (0-0, 2.65)
The Underachievers have locked up at least a one-game playoff, and now they have their eye on the first overall seed, as the league leading Mannys (who are already in the postseason) seek to hold on to the top spot. The Mannys are 5-1 at home.
Thrones [9-4] @ Nemesis [6-7]
---B. Zito (0-0, ---) vs. M. Buehrle (1-2, 2.86)
The Thrones finally lost at home, and lost their #2 starter in the process. The Nemesis have a golden opportunity to capitalize on the spot starting Zito, but can they take advantage? They have dropped four straight to start the second half.
Gorons [6-7] @ Bearorists [6-7]
---I. Kennedy (0-3, 9.39) vs. R. Halladay (2-2, 2.25)
Two teams on the bubble, with the loser dropping out of a playoff spot and facing a desperate battle if they want to get in. The Bearorists send out Halladay. The Gorons... send out... an ERA of almost 10. The Gorons are also 1-6 on the road, though the Bearorists are 1-4 at home.
Penetrators [8-5] @ Electricity [8-5]
---G. Gonzalez (1-0, 1.50) vs. D. Price (3-0, 3.00)
Two teams tied for second in the Kickass League, the winner automatically goes to the playoffs.
I offered him Michael Morse (All-Star, best hitter on my team) for Miguel Cabrera (hitting .170) several times.
He turned it down.
At this point, I just assume he's given up and is tanking for a higher draft pick (lol).
I just assume he's not a dumbass going by streaks in a video game that has the slimmest sample size imaginable. There's no way I'd trade Miggy if I were him considering he has some of the best stats in the game.
12 games into the season and he's hitting awful the whole way through, it stops being about the sample size. Especially since he was just going to bench him anyway.
In other words, he could have had Michael Morse for essentially nothing. He wanted Jurrjens, too, so I turned it down (and of course Jurrjens finally gets lit up).
You should fire your entire bullpen, replace them with starting pitchers, and then see if the game refuses to put in bullpen dudes because they're starters.
Edit: Also make Alec have you use a 1-man rotation.
~~~WEEK 14 RESULTS~~~
Check SwInge - 2 @ Roughnecks - 7
---WP: C. Wilson (1-3, 5.24) , LP: J. Jurrjens (2-1, 2.11) , HR: A. Beltre (3), C. Lee (1)
The Roughnecks pulled into a tie for the last playoff spot in the Badass League. Do one game playoffs count as playoffs for the sake of always choking in your first round of playoffs games? Meanwhile, Jair Jurrjens looked fallible for the first in his short career.

Weasels - 8 @ Cubs - 1
---WP: D. Haren (3-1, 3.13) , LP: C. Carpenter (0-1, 7.20) , HR: J. Werth (4)
The Weasels pulled off a win to pull into a tie for a playoff spot, while the Cubs fell into a three way tie for last place and one playoff spot.

Underachievers - 2 @ #OccupyMannys - 5
---WP: J. Santana (1-0, 2.74) , LP: C. Kershaw (1-2, 3.70) , SAVE: R. Soriano (6) , HR: J. Votto (9), A. Dunn (13)
This game doesn't really matter so screw it. Oh, Adam Dunn is probs MVP. Like we didn't know.

Thrones - 1 @ Nemesis - 2 (11 innings)
---WP: S. Marshall (1-0, 2.25) , LP: D. Robertson (0-1, 1.69) , HR: A. Pujols (3)
The Nemesis were an inning away rom seeing their playoff hopes all but dashed, but Papelbon blew the save and the Nemesis won in extras to hold onto a share of the last playoff spot with a win while holding back the first place Thrones from locking up a playoff spot as they are now in a first place tie.

Gorons - 8 @ Bearorists - 1
---WP: I. Kennedy (1-3, 6.85) , LP: R. Halladay (2-3, 2.79) , HR: J. Morneau 2 (6), J. Thome (3)
The Gorons are back from the dead folks, and the Bearorists fell out of a playoff spot with the loss. How the hell did Ian Kennedy get a win?

Penetrators - 4 @ Electricity - 1
---WP: G. Gonzalez (2-0, 1.50) , LP: D. Price (3-1, 3.68) , SAVE: A. Bailey (4) , HR: N. Cruz (4)
In a game where the winner could pull into first, the Pentrators prevailed. Gonzalez has only pitched two games, both wins against the Electricity. The Electricity are 8-4 against non-Penetrator teams.

~~~~WEEK 15 SCHEDULE~~~
Check SwInge [7-7] @ Weasels [5-9]
--- C. Lee (1-2, 7.63) vs. T. Cahill (0-2, 3.52)
The SwInge can officially lock up their playoff spot with a win. But that would require Cliff Lee to have two quality starts in a row. Boko has no idea what's going on.
Roughnecks [5-9] @ #OccupyMannys [8-5]
--- C. Lewis (0-0, 3.60) vs. J. Peavy (1-0, 2.65)
The Roughnecks have pulled into a 3-way tie for one playoff spot, but to hold it they'll need to get past the league best Mannys, who are 5-1 at home, while the Roughnecks are 1-5 on the road.
Cubs [5-9] @ Underachievers [7-7]
--- J. Johnson (0-0, 4.57) vs. A. Wainwright (1-2, 4.50)
An underwhelming pitching matchup of real life aces will decide the Cubs' fate.
Thrones [9-5] @ Gorons [7-7]
--- Y. Gallardo (0-0, ---) vs. M. Cain (1-0, 3.68)
The Gorons are 5-1 at home, and facing off against Gallardo who has not pitched this season in B8Bl. They'll need every advantage they can get against the league best Thrones.
Nemesis [7-7] @ Electricity [8-6]
--- J. Beckett (2-1, 3.13) vs. M. Latos (1-2, 3.97)
It's clutch time. Can Josh Beckett be clutch? The answer is yes... if it's B8BL2.
Bearorists [6-8] @ Penetrators [9-5]
--- Z. Greinke (1-0, 2.89) vs. R. Dickey (0-0, ---)
The Penetrators, with only seeding on their minds, send out RA Dickey against the Bearorists, who need to win and get lucky to grab a playoff spot.
I offered him Michael Morse (All-Star, best hitter on my team) for Miguel Cabrera (hitting .170) several times.
He turned it down.
At this point, I just assume he's given up and is tanking for a higher draft pick (lol).
I just assume he's not a dumbass going by streaks in a video game that has the slimmest sample size imaginable. There's no way I'd trade Miggy if I were him considering he has some of the best stats in the game.
12 games into the season and he's hitting awful the whole way through, it stops being about the sample size. Especially since he was just going to bench him anyway.
In other words, he could have had Michael Morse for essentially nothing. He wanted Jurrjens, too, so I turned it down (and of course Jurrjens finally gets lit up).
12 games isn't even a tenth of a full baseball season. Consider that some players have had entire horrible outlier seasons before.
Sometimes the stats just don't go in your favour. For example, in the online text MMORPG UrbanDead, there have been times where I use all 50 action points and only collapse a barricade level twice on a building, when it should have a hit percentage of 25% (thus I SHOULD have knocked it down 12.5 times). Outliers happen in extremely small samples. 12 games is extremely small.
I'll give you 3 guesses as to why I didn't yank Ian Kennedy in my last game with the season on the line. Guess who was right?
It's 75% of a B8BL season, which is all that matters.
When we play 162 games, get back to me.
Lol, you just don't get it man. You can't "ride a streak" in a video game. It's a new crap shoot every time we play. It's better to play the very best players every time to increase your odds and reduce random luck. We're playing probability. Extha and I have the game and we know Miggy is a top 3 player. Arguing that Morse is better because he has better stats over 12 games is beyond stupid. Can you imagine if you made the same argument in real life? Like, say Miggy was hitting .170 12 games into the season, do you really think people would say he's suddenly a horrible hitter? The only people who would are suckers that I swindle in fantasy baseball.
My point is, trading him away is like gambling that he won't explode over the next few games which he is fully capable of doing. You can't look at 12 games and make a conclusive assumption about somebody's talent and predict what he will do over the next 4 games. I can make a conclusive assumption by looking at the values the game makers have given him and say, yes, it is more likely that Miggy will outproduce Morse from now to the end of the season.
You're completely ignoring the fact that this a COMPUTER SIMULATED VIDEO GAME where a CPU determines when and how a player swings in this game. It had been 12 games, and the computer wasn't hitting with Miguel Cabrera. That might suggest that despite all Miggy's superior stats, the CPU is using the wrong swings (power when contact is needed, contact when power is needed) and not using Miguel properly. All the stats in the world can't save you if the CPU isn't doing right be a player, hence why Morse has been outperforming Miguel. It probably knows how to play to his strengths better than Miggy.
I'm with you that if this was real life and it was only 12 games, I wouldn't say Michael Morse is better than Miguel Cabrera. Track record proves otherwise. But this is a video game that we haven't used before in B8BL and it's clear to me that the A.I. doesn't know how to use players. All the stats in the world isn't going to do much if the A.I. does "durr, im gonna swing for the fences on an 0-2 pitch rather than just trying to put it in play." or having the best pitchers hang breaking-balls in the middle of the strikezone on 0-2 pitches. You're really going to tell me you'd rather have Miguel Cabrera than Adam Dunn because his in-game stats are better?
By the way, the last two weeks Michael Morse is 3 for 8 and Miguel is 1 for 8.
I don't think the AI is making a big distinction between players when it picks swings. Regardless, Miguel is a rare entity that has both contact AND power, so it literally doesn't matter "how it uses him".
If you think he's useless then why did you even offer a trade at all? I don't get you.
And yes, I would rather have Miggy than Dunn.
I would believe you except this game is completely awful A.I. wise. Pitchers only giving up one run, getting pulled 50 pitches in after 6 innings. Refusing to use certain players in certain situations. I wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the AI sucked enough to make a hitter like Miggy look bad.
If you think he's useless then why did you even offer a trade at all? I don't get you.
I offered the trade because all my moves involved getting slumping players who needed a change of scenery. Dustin Pedroia, Vladimir Guerrero. It was a risk-reward thing: if Miguel busted out of his slump, I got a formidable bat. If not, I was going down in the first round. No point in playing it safe at this point. Playing it safe just means I'm a first round exit anyway, why not make that last push and try to do something significant?
And yes, I would rather have Miggy than Dunn.
