from what little I've heard of the original japanese soundtrack I have to say I like kai's more, but yeah, faulconer did amazing things for it, DBZ remains one of a handful of anime that I'd prefer to watch the english dub and faulconer is a big part of it

my theory on the kienzan is that the manipulation of energy is a basic technique that may simply have different names. when vegeta comes to earth he can fly, shoot energy beams that are like a kamehameha, create false moonlight which may not be that far removed from learning solar flare, and apparently either already knows something like the destructo disc or learns it from watching krillin do it. really the only difference between the saiyans and earthlings is that the earthlings can sense external ki(you'd think vegeta would have to be acutely aware of his own ki in order to manipulate it but hey, nothing else in DB makes sense), it seems like a lot of techniques are interchangeable or related

this is also true, vegeta can't sense ki at that point so the only way he could know that it was different than a normal energy attack is by it's appearance, it does seem like he recognizes it

Or Piccolo against Nappa power. Yamcha and Tien are both well above 1500 when they get there. Catching Bubbles would not do much if anything for them. They don't learn the Kaio Ken or Spirit Bomb, so they hardly did any of the stuff Goku did. 2 Again, just going by what the manga says for that part. ANd there is no way that one single hell blast from someone of similar strength would off Cell in one hit. Broly was beaten by SSJ (not FPSSJ) Goku. Then by SSJ Goku, Gohan, and Goten. Then by KRILLIN!!! He is outclassed by all the SSJ2's, the weakest of which (teen Gohan) is about equal to Super Perfect Cell. And again, SPC can regenerate, Broly would not be able to. SSJ2 Vegeta, easily. Before he gets the Majin powerup, Vegeta all ready comments how both he and Kakarot are stronger than Gohan was against Cell (because he knew his own SSJ 2 power level, and saw Goku's for an instant against Yakon). Trunks also comment about how similar Goku's power was to his dads. The Majin power up closed the gap between he and Goku, (which was not that gargantuan if Trunks is to be beleived) he would in no way need it to beat SSJ2 Kid Gohan. Mecha Frieza is stated to be stronger than 100% Frieza. I am sure King Cold is no slouch (though I do not believe he is stronger than Frieza). Trunks dealt with them both effortlessly. Now a large part of that was because Goku had just become SSJ, where as Trunks had been one for a long time, and was not incumbered by anything about it. But still. The other thing is Frieza would not go looking for Goku (to fight anyway, instead of blowing up a planet) unless he knew he was stronger. It is true Frieza can't sense Goku's power, but he knows his own topped out at 120,000,000, and Goku dispatched him relatively easily. (Though I would say tailless probably is involved too, as according to the Legendary SSJ, he became a SSJ from Oozaru, so without that ability, they become the more human type one) It seems moment of peril or high emotions help immensely for the actual transformation, but it is not required, as Goten, and Vegeta SSJ2, and Goku SSJ2 and SSJ3 show.
