Yes technically B/W is a reboot, but I want them to reboot it so that we can't even get the older Pokemon. We're nearing 1k Pokemon, that's ridiculous.
I hope they wrap up Grey and RSE remake, then make Gen 6. That way they can split the 6 games into two trilogies, and instead of remaking them separately they can just make two games with 3 region each. That way if they want to reintroduce the older Pokemon from Gen 7 onward, it would only take two "remakes" to bring them back.

Gen 7 with 150 brand new Pokemon. Remake Gen1/2/3 on improved Gen 7 engine. Then 3rd edition of Gen 7. Repeat for Gen 8 but this time with remake of Gen 4/5/6.
The way I see it. If RSE gets a remake now, that means RBY will be getting a remake after that >_> then that means GSC will get a remake...
If they split 6 games into 2 trilogies, they wouldn't have to restart the cycle of remakes if their reboot pisses people off.

Y'know, what is Game Freak going to do about the rising number of Pokemon? I mean, the idea of trying to catch 1,000 Pokemon is pretty crazy. Quite a few people I've talked to think it's ridiculous that over 500 exist nowadays, so having 1,000+ could be sort of ill-advised.

This is definitely part of it, and I also think people disliked how different R/S/E were from G/S/C (no clock, no day/night features, etc). Gen III was criminally underrated at the time of its release; its reputation has definitely started to turn around these past few years, though, and for good reason.
1k is nothing for hardcore players. But the little kids aren't going to really understand or care, they just want to collect them all and 1k is too much. Kids that started with B/W isn't going to be piss about not being able to get stuff from 1/2/3/4.
I think it's hated because they got rid of day/night/date.
It's hated because there was no way to get your favorite Pokemon whom you trained and grown attached to for half a decade, and have them in the new game because of 2 terrible system changes that no one liked or asked for.
That and there was no way to get every single pokemon until a remake and console version later unless you gamesharked.

Eh, the Day/Night was big, but I still cite a lack of old Pokémon as being the biggest reason. No inclusion of the other regions was also pretty bad for people who expected it after GSC, but losing all your generations old Pokémon and not being able to catch new versions was the main source of the initial resentment from the fanbase.

The lack of old Pokemon is absolutely the thing that made RSE disliked the most. That was the single reason I didn't buy them myself until many years later

RSE came at a bad time. Most of the kids that started with RBYGSC were in highschool when RSE came out. You hear bad things about RSE because these people are complaining.
I was crushed when I beat the main story of RSE and couldn't go back to Johto

I'm not opposed to the idea of going to every region, it's just they would have to change the leveling system by quite a bit. I think it would be cool to be able to go to all regions. Then be facing like, level 400 Dragonites or something, lol.
I'd actually be okay with a complete reboot, because Pokemon games are all about the new Pokemon for me anyway.
...But I'd be just as okay with them never doing a complete reboot, for the exact same reason. Doesn't affect me much either way, but one option pisses off 99% of the fanbase. Never gonna happen.

A full on reboot is what BW should have been. It was brilliant in every respect, and I would have given endless props to the development team if they did away with the first four gens and legitimately started over.
But of course, it's a fanbase fueled by nostalgia and changing anything, or taking anything away, is disastrous.

I don't think it would be too hard to implement some sort of level restriction as you powered through each of the regions.

You might be able to get away with rebooting the series by removing all old Pokemon and then gradually reintroducing a handful of the most popular/interesting ones, but ehhh.

This is why I hate it whenever GameFreak makes a bunch of Bug/Flying and Normal/Flying and pure Water types - it means a lot of redundancy, but you can't get rid of any Pokemon because 1) they all have fans and 2) The whole point of the series is to catch them all.
They just need to make catching easier (read: less swarms and crap) and make the routes more diverse. Instead of having a route with 1 Pokemon showing up 90% of the time and two more 5%, there should be ten Pokemon, each with a 10% chance of appearing. No two routes share a Pokemon. Keep a few special areas where the wild Pokemon all give the same EVs for the hardcore guys. Simple and gives tons of variety.

While a lot of players would love this, GameFreak wants to direct your experience more than that. Having a basic Normal type and a Normal/Flying and a bunch of crummy Bugs seems to be, in their minds, an essential part of the beginning of the "Pokemon Experience". And they like being able to put in gyms where there's only a few certain Pokemon available that will have a distinct advantage there.
