I don't think UC is terribly dark

On the contrary I dont think AGE is too juvenile. I mean the heart of this plot is PMCs basically which is at the heart of many "grown up" FPSes.

I don't understand what they mean by that. Other than Victory, most of UC is on the normal scale. Sure the last few episodes of Zeta was on Victory mode, but everything else is pretty standard stuff. AGE is fine as it is.

Though I wouldn't mind a more adult AGE, I do wonder how they are going to go about it. Will they have a new character designer? That's about the only kiddy thing I can think of. Maybe the model kits aren't selling because the otaku are too busy hating on the character designs. I would hate for AGE to get cancelled 30 something episodes in >_>

With regards to Victory, I don't think it's that dark at all. Yeah, there is a pretty large number of deaths, but there is a lot of humor in it too, particularly slapstick humor.

But then again, I'm only on like episode 35

This was a very interesting episode.

More background on Yurin. Not what I was expecting. I guess she really is just a newtype, with no affiliation with the UE. I wonder how that's gonna play out though. Flit clearly likes her more than he likes Emily.

I actually rather liked this episode. Not much happened, but it set up some things. Millie is totally gonna get with Woolf.

The only thing that was weird and that I didn't like is that apparently Millie summoned that one mobile suit creator instantly. He was there within hours.

I am getting pumped up for the final showdown. Yurin's past took me by surprise. So I guess Desil and his kind are artificial Newtypes. Or maybe Birmings is actually Yark Dole and the Diva crew is headed towards a bigger trap than they bargained for. Btw that Federation guy looked like Iwark.

Pretty fun so far, but the plot train needs to leave the station.

Don't worry, it eventually does. He stops doing that after about episode 6 or so. For me, the show doesn't TRULY take off until around episode 25 though. The second half is balls to the wall. First half is alright, but with a few really great moments.

Just finished Victory Gundam.

That was a great show. Absolutely fantastic. I wasn't too impressed initially. I thought the first few episodes were confusing and slow. But around the time they were trying to escape to space, I was enthralled.

One thing I had heard going in was that it was the most depressing/grimmest series. Not really. I mean, yeah there was a lot of character deaths, but in terms of tone, I'd say it was closer to ZZ than Z. In fact, it reminded me a lot of ZZ. Lots of slapstick humor, primarily young cast. Furthermore, there was a lot of "cuteness' throughout. Hell, two of the main mascots are Flanders and Karlmann (who was adorable, especially towards the end). Speaking of Flanders, what happened to him? He kind of disappeared towards the end.

Uso Ewing: Great protagonist, and if I'm not mistaken, the youngest so far. I don't think he was an especially good pilot, or even a particularly powerful newtype, but he was creative and competent.

Shakti: I liked her a lot. She did some dumb stuff from time to time, which resulted in Uso and friends having to rescue her several times

Odelo: Why did you have to die? He was a great sidekick. Poor Elischa :(

Warren: Pretty sure he's never getting with Martina. Poor guy

Cronicle: At first I didn't care for him, but I came to like him. That said, I don't think his rivalry with Uso was altogether that interesting. At least, it wasn't as well developed as (for example, Char x Amuro(perhaps this is unfair, since their rivalry is LEGENDARY), Kamille x Jerid, or Kou x Gato. Still, I think he was a good guy who, like his sister, were being used. A shame. I think he could have done a lot of good with his life. His death was pretty sad.

Overall, I loved the art style and tone. It had a very strange surreal vibe. Almost like a fantasy series or something. This is probably helped by the fact that the soundtrack was so wonderful.




The final battle was intense. There were a few questions I had: Before the Jeanne D'arc was sunk, Uso's dad was shown to have evacuated. The general was like, "The rumors are true... He's a sharp man. I wonder what he is planning." But then he's never seen again. His "ghost" is seen when the Jeanne D'arc crashes into Sugan's flagship later, implying that he died when the ship was shot up earlier. What is up with that. Come to think of it, I think Uso is the only protagonist so far who's parents were happily married. Yeah, they were divided due to their duties with regards to the war, but it is implied they were very much in love.

There were some things I had a problem with, I won't lie: First off, I didn't really care much for the mech designs. Well, at least the Zanscare designs. Zolos and Zoloats were alright. But why did everything have tires? It was weird. Even the battleships had tires (As Uso's mother found out!)

I think they kind of flubbed Fuala. She wasn't bad at the beginning, but when she returned, it was kind annoying. Her personality flip was even more extreme than poor Mashymre's.

The bikini women thing in episode 49 or so was pretty weird too. But kind of cool. Was totally ineffective.

One thing I did like was Katejina's character. Her fall was I thought pretty reasonably done. Yeah, she goes bat++++ insane at the end, but her transition throughout was pretty well done, as she goes from being staunchly League Militaire, to being sympathetic to Cronicle, to being a zealot. Her fate was pretty poetic.

One Final Note: One of the ideas the show hints at but doesn't develop is the idea that the government from Jupiter is using Zanscare as tool for taking over the earth. They built the Angel Halo, and Fonse Katagie, a representative from Jupiter, apparently established Maria as a figurehead. It would have been neat to see more of Jupiter in the show. In fact, I demand a UC show that takes place at Jupiter. They seem to be influential, with Jupiter Energy Fleet and all. In fact, come to think of it, wasn't Scirocco also from Jupiter? What is with Jupiterites supporting authoritarian dictators?

Too Long Didn't Read Version: Victory Gundam is a series that isn't as dark as people say, but is still meaningful. I rather liked the cast, and the soundtrack was phenomenal. There are some weird bits here and there, but overall was really good.

I guess that's it for the UC serieses, at least until the next episode of Unicorn (can't wait!). On to some more AU. Wing is next.

Just watched the first episode of Gundam Wing for the first time since it first ran on Toonami. I remember next to nothing about the show, other than the finale basically being Char's Counterattack, so this is basically a blind watch for me. I suppose I also remember some minor plotpoints as well: Zechs and Relena are bro and sis, Quattro is gay for Trowa, stuff like that.

Heero... What the hell is his problem. He laughs hysterically as he slaughters people and treats people like ****. Way more of a sociopath than I remember.

Decided to read Crossbones Gundam while I watch Gundam Wing, so I'll be commenting on that as well.

It took a moment to get used to the art style, but so far I'm digging this a lot. The Crossbones Gundam is AWESOME



It has a CLOAK. And a crossbow. And its a pirate gundam.

Plus, its about the Jupiter Empire, a setting I've been wanting to hear about for a while.

So chapter 2 cleared up a lot of what happened after F91. Cecily came back to Frontier Colony and started talking crap against Cosmos Babylonia, so everyone lost interest.

Kira is a way better protagonist, Zechs and Harry Ord are better Chars, Andrew Waltfeld is a better Ramba Ral, Bright in Zeta and Murrue Ramius are better than MSG Bright, Sai is a better Kai, and the battles at Jaburo, Texas, Side 6, Solomon, and A Baoa Qu are all worse than the various major battles in Wing, Seed, and Zeta

About 7 episodes into Gundam Wing. Would like to have been further in, but have been busy with Christmas stuff. A couple of notes:

- As much as I want to hate Heero, I kind of like the guy. His manical laughter as he slaughters people is kind of funny. Sucks he got tooled into slaughtering the Earth Sphere Alliance Heads.

- Trieze is a lot cooler than I remember him. Now, he hasn't done much so far, but he's so smooth and elegant.

- **** Lady Une. I hated her in 1999 or 2000 or whatever, and I hate her now.

- Relena is a lot more pathetic than I remember her being. I mean, I know she's suppose to be based on Sayla (the whole princess in exile/sister of rival thing), but her romance with Heero has been dreadful. She's totally wet for him just because he's a) mysterious, b) treats her like crap, c) threatens to kill her every time they meet. She wasn't even that upset about her father's death because she was too hard on for Heero.

- Zechs is more of a ***** than I remember. Even his own soldiers talk back to him. Char would have never put up with that crap. He's such a ***** that he doesn't even have the balls to tell his best friend to not kill his sister. His girlfriend had to do it behind his back.

- Not the biggest fan of indestructable gundams, but I'll work with it.

- As soon as Quatre and Trowa had their music session together, memories of being in 7th grade flooded back to me. My friends used to joke that they were a couple. Trowa, who somehow manages to be even more stoic than Heero, probably doesn't care too much about Quatre, but Quatre DEFINITELY has a thing for Trowa.

- A lot more factions than then I remember.

For the Earth Sphere Alliance, you have the general council or whatever. Then you have the Romefeller Foundation and OZ. Furthermore, OZ has a special branch called the Specials. So that's what, 4 groups just within there?

The space colonies seem to be much looser knit. There seems to be at least 5 groups, judging by how each Gundam pilot operates independently. Or maybe there is just one major colony group with 5 autonomous cells or something. I can't remember.
